It's so tough. There's so many side effects to gaining weight but switching meds is going to have other unfavorable effects as well. Better to be stable mentally I guess
I think he should try BUPROPION!! it’s used as an anti depressant (and for smoking cessation) and doesn’t cause weight gain!! It actually causes weight loss so u need to make sure to eat on it. I think it would be really good for Ethan to try a new med!!
I had to quit Zoloft because of the side effects 💔 hoping I can find something better soon. Sometimes it’s worth quitting a med with bad side effects to find something that really works for you in every way. I can understand the apprehension though
the comments about weight were really hard to listen to. some people were just raised on that, i don't super blame Donna, and i appreciate the Ethan pushed back. it's just a generational trauma that needs to end. questioning her like that was so smart, and honestly made the situation feel so much better.
ugh grow up, ethan wasnt fat as a kid so its not like he grew up with her calling him fat. hes an adult who has made a living off of making fun of others, if he cant handle the “trauma” of his mother saying she thinks he should lose weight then he shouldnt be on the internet. have we all forgotten that being fat isnt healthy? it has nothing to do with cultural pressure to look “hot”, its about acknowledging you shouldnt be ordering pizza all the time if youre supposedly trying to lose weight!
Stop being so sensitive. Overweight and obese isn’t healthy. She cares about his health. People like you just care about ignoring problems and pretending everything is fine to make yourself feel better in the moment and avoid hard work.
I love how people under this comment are acting like they actually care about Ethan’s health. If you really cared you would care about his mental health too, and anti depressants can make you gain weight for no reason and make it extremely difficult to lose weight
@siân diann youre right, its not any of my business what he does with his body. i never said it was, and i couldnt give less of a shit how much he weighs. its also none of that girls business what his mother has to say about his weight. but i fundamentally disagree with the idea that pointing out peoples unhealthy weight is a “generational trauma that needs to end”. should we stop going to doctors too if theyre going to tell us our lifestyles are unhealthy? fuck the dentist cuz theyre gonna tell us to brush our teeth more? i want a family that points out you have gained weight and should try and make healthier decisions, not one who quietly ignores and/or even enables it. so, i say again, grow up.

EDIT: This was commented prior to seeing the body shaming part. I agree that was sad & harmful. I hated it when my parents commented on my weight, too. I absolutely meant no harm - this was early in the episode and I watch these in spurts during the workday; I paused after commenting this when Donna dogged on her own appearance and then I resumed later. When I saw the body shaming part, I also commented (but it didn’t gain the traction this comment randomly did) about how that was sad & harmful, how parents have a way of making us feel small, and that Ethan is a handsome king perfect the way he is. I don’t agree with or defend the body shaming, this was a comment at the beginning because prior to that conversation, calling Donna a queen and beautiful and all that was not uncommon and that conversation began after Donna was dogging on her own appearance. If this came across as insensitive, I understand and I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. Peace & love. @May Hummel this was pre-recorded so they also could’ve edited things out if Ethan was uncomfortable. I think she’s worried because she knows it’s not the norm for him but a reaction to the medication, and mothers do worry about that stuff. He’s got health concerns around it too as mentioned but thinks the medication he’s on is worth the physical side effects regardless, which makes sense. But hoping he’ll be able to lose a bit of weight, especially when that’s a goal Ethan has already been talking publicly about for a while, seems fine to me
donna is such a sweet woman but honestly ethans mental health is so much more important than gaining weight, as long as his physical health isnt in complete ruins i think a healthy mindset is a lot better than being “in shape” also for what its worth i personally think ethans v handsome and so does hila and her opinion is the only one that matters in this situation
I mean...yes but you might underestimate what it takes to be unhealthily overweight. In men basically having a waist size above a certain point represents like a 50% increased likelihood of all kinds of medical conditions that will ruin you.
I get that they probably don’t mean any harm, but don’t let anyone tell you what to do with your body except your doctor. you are human and human beings come in all shapes and sizes. I’m honestly shocked by how cruel people can be… even though I’m sure Donna felt like she had good intentions, why would you point out something like that?? Basically telling him she misses when he was skinny and depressed
He has said he has wanted to change himself, she’s asking if he’s looked into other medications and he said he hasn’t tried really. Mental and physical health are equally as important imo and she’s asking if he’s tried to do both with an alternative medicine
@@hej6513 as a mother now who dealt with the mention of my weight my whole life. This is something I would never do to my kids. It doesn’t work. He isn’t just some who just struggles with just weight but mental disorders that make it that much difficult. It makes one feel like we aren’t ever good enough. This approach actually made me develop a destructive behavior. I was loosing weight because I would barf and not eat and she would look at me and praise me and it reenforced the behavior. She didn’t know and this is why it’s best to not talk about peoples weight unless they bring it up.
i mean you can’t be fully mentally healthy unless you’re physically healthy. but it’s 100% possible for him to achieve physical health on lexapro and not be “skinny”. skinny /= healthy. i feel like a lot of people don’t realize that. as long as ethan feels good and his overall health isn’t affected by his weight, he doesn’t need to worry about losing any. my mom was put on lexapro after my dad passed away and it ended up giving her thyroid issues that impacted her weight, so i think ethan should definitely talk to a doctor about his HEALTH on lexapro. and not his weight. but lexapro does have side effects that cause weight gain, it doesn’t necessarily cause it itself. health should be everyone’s primary concern, physical and mental. they coincide.
Ethan, you're right. If that medication is really working for you, you should absolutely stay on it. You seemed pretty uncomfortable about changing medication, and if it starts to really impact your health and you're comfortable exploring avenues, then you should do it on your own time. Changing medication during a busy holiday season with the time it takes to adjust to it probably wouldn't be fun.
We stan a mentally stable king. Yes, being thinner and a little more athletic can benefit physical health, but sometimes mental well being is more important. ❤ Ethan is a skinny legend.

@@buffywasright there's definitely truth to what both of u are saying! The journey to overall health(mental and physical) is just a difficult process to tackle for anyone. We all have to do our best to figure out what we can personally handle. There's not a one size fits all method or perfect road to happiness. And that's perfectly okay.
@@buffywasright losing weight is part of being healthy but his mom is specifically relating being skinny to looking good and asking that if him. She clearly knows this has been on Ethan for a long time. He has even gone vegan trying to “look good” but that’s not exactly where it starts. Doing it to get results is fine but for someone like Ethan who struggles losing it because of the meds he’s on. It’s harder than someone not on them. So for him still being chubby doesn’t mean he’s not internally beginning to be more healthy.
I love Donna. But, I’m not going to lie- Donna’s comments on Ethan’s weight made me really sad and uncomfortable. It reminded me of a similar experience I had on an antidepressant and my own family’s reaction to my weight gain. Thankfully, I found a different antidepressant that works for my mental health AND weight goals, but it was really hard at the time. Stay strong Ethan- your mental health IS more important and (no disrespect to Hila but) I find you very handsome as you are.
Same here! As someone who has tried different medications it’s honestly a miracle Ethan was able to find a medication that works for him. I get she wants him to look his best but his best imo is him in a good mental place. The suggestion to try other meds just because of weight gain made me :/ if he’s said before lexapro helps him a lot
Right? I had to stop watching and come back to finish later because I'd never seen Donna appear mean or unlikeable before. Donna (like Hila) has mentioned struggling to gain enough weight, so I really don't think either can understand what it's like for him. Ethan's also in his mid 30's and he isn't GIGANTIC either. He also works out, so I'm not really concerned for his health and I think it's weird to expect him to go back to looking how he did as a teenager. Everyone putting aesthetics over Ethan suffering from depression shows we still have a long way to go in lessening fat phobia and the stigma of mental illness. I would put my money on suicide killing a mildly-overweight depressed person before a weight-related illness. I know Donna doesn't understand how hurtful this can be, but I bet if she reads the comments she'll try to be better in the future.

It's so unfortunate what the cartels and US/Mex govs have done to it. It's seriously so beautiful.
I thought it was common knowledge that the cartels and the US have made Mexico what it is. Maybe we only learn about that outside of the US, where we don't have the propaganda.
This is the first time I've ever disagreed with Donna. As someone who has been trying to get an anti depressant to "work for me" for 2 years now, I get so much hope from hearing Ethan talk about how is medication helps him. He shouldn't try to find another medication Just because this one causes him to gain weight. Having a small waistline isn't worth wanting to be "unalive".

Ethan is husband goals and handsome as fuck, especially in that sweet turtleneck. Your mental health and wellbeing is so much more important than the way you look.
I’m so confused how Ethan’s family can’t see it’s not just about Ethan losing weight. Most weight gain has psychological reasoning behind it & he needs SUPPORT more than shaming during this period of his life. Understand his hurt and encourage him to live a healthier life ❤️❤️
Donna with peace and love please realize that Ethan gets hundreds of comments a day from haters commenting on his appearance. He doesn’t need the people that should be supporting most, telling him to look good again. It really gave me a sad feeling. Mental health is always more important. Always.🤍

the comments about weight were really hard to listen to. some people were just raised on that, i don't super blame Donna, and i appreciate the Ethan pushed back. it's just a generational trauma that needs to end. questioning her like that was so smart, and honestly made the situation feel so much better.
ugh grow up, ethan wasnt fat as a kid so its not like he grew up with her calling him fat. hes an adult who has made a living off of making fun of others, if he cant handle the “trauma” of his mother saying she thinks he should lose weight then he shouldnt be on the internet. have we all forgotten that being fat isnt healthy? it has nothing to do with cultural pressure to look “hot”, its about acknowledging you shouldnt be ordering pizza all the time if youre supposedly trying to lose weight!

@@buffywasright losing weight is part of being healthy but his mom is specifically relating being skinny to looking good and asking that if him.
