Thank you! Your explanation of why my pubic bone hurts is the first time I’ve heard anybody that makes sense! Thank you so much! It almost feels like spasms, shooting pains and then it’ll calm down and then it’ll come back and I do believe that it is coming from my spine I think everything is out of alignment so I will be seeing my chiropractor. 🤗

Something to keep in mind for patients and doctors is that this separation can occur without any trauma in people with connective tissue diseases. I’m almost able to walk around my house again with an SI belt cinched very tight after my doctor, who has EDS herself, was able to realign and close my gap by several inches. Still more inches to go, but I was having such severe nerve pain that we thought I had cauda equine syndrome and I was in the emergency room the night before. It affected my bladder and I couldn’t sleep without icing my pubis and thighs. Thankfully I don’t have CES, but I was born with tethered cord and now it’s very hard to tell if symptoms are coming from the tethered spine pulling on and dislocating my coccyx or the dislocations at the SI joints, pubic symphysis, and left hip
dislocating the coccyx and therefore pulling on the spine. I don’t want to go for detethering surgery when my symptoms may actually be entirely from all my pelvic instabilities. I’m currently 2 months post-op from emergency C0-C2 fusion because I nearly internally decapitated, my skull slid back into my brainstem, stopping my respiratory drive, paralyzing my arms and legs, and causing my transient ischemic attacks to progress to strokes. Thankfully I already had an EDS-literate neurosurgeon and I was airlifted cross-country for immediate surgery and I’m happy to say that the arm and leg paralysis is gone, I haven’t had a single TIA, and I’m breathing on my own! Again my ligaments failed due to my genetic condition, no traumatic event. So if you’re hypermobile, it can be worth finding knowledgeable PTs and MDs who can help you correct instabilities and preserve your spine and peripheral nervous system. I wish I’d known years ago! I probably could have avoided my head basically falling off.

@@grettagrids Oof I’m sorry! I’m still no closer to being diagnosed even though I literally have a copy of the criteria with everything I have on it crosses off. I’ve been to 3 different rheumatologists, paid for my own genetic testing but none of them want to call it conclusively. I ended up with a bunch of variants of unknown significance for brittle cornea syndrome and I do have ocular issues. I am trying to save up for a geneticist but spending all of my disability on bills because my boyfriend is broke.

I was hit by a car in 1985. Had a 9" separation of my pubic symphysis. NINE-INCHES. That's giving-birth sideways. And I'm a guy! Fortunately, (from a pain-perspective) I was also unconscious. (comatose, about 6-weeks) UNfortunately, I "blew a stress-ulcer" before I was to have a pelvis-plate attached to close my diastasis.(sp?) So I've been living for 34-years with a 2-3" separated pubic symphysis. (Hoffman-bars were drilled at the time of the incident / not accident / since it was a hit-and-run) Another "blessing" of my brain damage (OMG - my computer almost exploded having that irony typed on it!) is that I've spent about 2/3-time of those 34 years in a w/c. (brain damage = balance & coordination troubles, amputation mandates a prosthetic which needs constant adjustment so I use w/c) But, returning to the vid, I'm glad for UTube. Adds to my understanding.

I have pain in the pubis symphysis, according to a MRA I did there is no separation but I have a tear in both hip labrum, and sometime the pain travels to the pubis area and also have inflammation in my SI joints, When im sitting in the sofa I have a wedge so I can recline and I put a small pillow under the knees....Do you consider this position is safe or it will make the problem worse for my condition? Thanks for your help!

I was diagnosed with Pubis Diastasis during my 3rd trimester in December2018. This was the worst pain I have EVER felt in My life. 😥 It was definitely a traumatizing experience. I'm genuinely afraid to ever get pregnant again. I had two children before my last child and those pregnancies where nothing compared to the experience this last pregnancy brought me. Fr. Just the thought of reliving this over again scares me to death.

I’m curious to know how you are doing now and if you have delivered your baby? I just had my third child and never experienced this with any of my pregnancies. However, after I delivered my son, I was unable to walk and in excruciating pain. He is now a week old, and I feel somewhat better, but can only take a few steps on a walker while putting all of my body weight on my arms. The doctor that delivered my son said it would just take time to heal. I hope it heals completely and I will be back to normal again. If this would have happy I me with my first child I don’t think I would ever of had anymore children, so I know what you mean when you say you don’t think you would ever want to be pregnant again.

I’m 30 and have been trying to get a solid EDS diagnosis for a while but I remember every time I had my period from the age of 10 the hormones would make everything go to jelly and this would happen. I am on continuous birth control now which sort of helps. I am still in constant pain but if I take a break from the pills I feel like I’ve got every flu and plague ever unleashed on humanity with the body aches and things randomly subluxating. Certain times of the month I notice I try to pick things up, use cutlery etc an my fingers bend backwards more than usual so I guess it’s hormone related. Pregnancy seems like a bad idea for people with EDS and an unfair one for their offspring… like I legit told my mother to stop having children please, because my brother is also struggling with GI issues, dysautonomia, cardiac issues, skin issues, ENT issues, chronic pain etc

Google something called the Beighton test to see if you are hypermobile. People whose bodies naturally stretch a bit too much are more inclined to get this. I think you should bring it up though as I waited until I was an adult to pursue a lot of health stuff and it was so much harder without my parents helping or advocating for me
