They don’t send kids home with lice. It’s crazy! I had an 8th grader a couple years ago with a lot of hair who had head lice the whole semester. When I inquired as to why he wasn’t sent home to deal with it, they said they don’t send kids home for lice anymore. 😳 It is so contagious! How is that fair to the other kids in class and staff?!!
I wish I could say how much I can't listen to episodes with the blond guy. I try, but I always have to click off halfway or sooner - without sounding personally negative, because he's a nice guy. Always a few good points, but ....
This is my 25th working school year. I've been the school secretary where I'm at now since August '06. So I've had 17 years with my elementary school family and still going strong. The stories I have could fill books 😂
I’m a BIA at my school and last year, we had an angry parent come in the office with a box… that box had two mice AND LET THEM RUN OFF IN THE OFFICE. The poor secretaries had to call for the janitor while they were screaming for their life! Since that incident, parents are now buzzed in the office
When my students and I get talking about the staff in the building. I tell them there are three people to make friends with (at any job): I.T. Guru, Secretary, and the Custodians. :)
Our school, after Covid send students home for just about anything with a minimum of 24 hours. But prior, it was 24 hours if they are contagious in anyway, including lice, then they can return if they have proof of proper medication or treatment until the issue is resolved.
Luv this cuz it's remindful of the hard work admin assistants do and influence they have on the staff which is why those at my school are actually my teacher besties so liking this topic!
Poor Liz, Bri and KC having too much fun and forget someone else is there😂. My last school had some lazy front office ladies, they forgot stuff all the time. Expected teachers to come to the office 5 minutes before the end of the day to grab forms that needed to go home that day. Another great crew keep it up!
12:00 lmaoooo “she was cool when she was cool” lmaooo that’s me asf cause I’m cool but don’t do nothing that’s gone make job harder or mess up the leisure for the rest of us bc you wanna run out by not doing your job but breaking rules. I’m not a teacher ( but I been told my WHOLE life from middle school to my current age of 24 bc I’m good at explaining things and putting stuff in perspective for the specific person I’m working with) but at my job it’s this one guy that you walk through the warehouse on his phone or sit in his car for the last 20 minutes bc I’ll pull my car up the last 10 and come back in the building but he just take stuff to the extreme so I went over there and told him off but he knows I’m fun and playful so he didn’t take it to heart
Sadly 2 out of 3 of my kids just were diagnosed with lice at school last Monday. 🤮🤦🏼♀️ They didn't have to go straight home, they could stay for the rest of the day. I treated their hair at home that night and my hubby did the laundry for the sheets and pillows. It can take up to 14 days to fully get rid of lice (adults) and nits (eggs). There's also something called super lice because the lice have genetically mutated to withstand the chemicals in the over-the-counter lice treatment products. I'm now a lice expert and I wish I wasn't. But now I can help other families who are going through the same thing. (I treated my hair just in case because my head was itchy. No lice, just dandruff and psychosomatic response. I also treated my one kid without lice just to be on the safe side. Hubby didn't need any treatment.) Also lice (really nits) can be in a person's hair for about a week before they even know (not itchy just yet), which is part of the reason lice is so contagious and spreads so easily. Fun facts: anyone can get lice, most young kids have it at least once, and lice do NOT jump (that's fleas NOT lice). And pets can't catch lice (thankfully)! Hope this helps! ❤
I was good friends with our secretary...it was a high school. She'd been one of my students in the mid-1990's and we got along great. I'd walk up to the front office some days and I could tell she'd just had an obnoxious parent and she'd look at me and say, "Do you want fries with that?" It was a joke between us to let me know how people in the office were being treated that day.
The record for a goldfish is over 40 years. It was a comet that someone won at a carnival and he lived his whole life in a 10 gallon tank. The fancier ones don't live that long. I'm not a teacher, but there are a lot of teachers in my family. I love these podcasts and all of Bri's older videos reading things parents have asked teachers to do.
47:02 KC setting off someone's Alexa! Also for real secretaries are the backbone of the school. Our secretary has been at the so long that I don't know if our school would function
I use to have my parrot at the front desk at the hotel I managed UNTIL she started to learn some words from our housekeeper. Well the bird use to say Hello when the phone would ring and keep saying it until someone answered. Well after my housekeeper taught her something she started saying HELLO , HELLO, HELLO GOD DAMMIT ! So now the parrot stays in the other room. lol
I'm so happy to see Bri again! I miss Tell. Will he make an appearance soon? 😊 Not the point of the episode, but isn't a door that can only be operated by a button in one location a violation of fire code?
17:03 lmaooo my senior year (2018) mine was 100% I was cool with my principal he would be like she has something important to do 😂😂😂I was smart asf and they knew my work was finished they used to think I was going to help kids in the other classes whole time I done snuck my friends out too and we at the mall and at dudes houses 😂😂😂🤦🏾♀️ 17:27 I got into a fight in middle school bc my friend wanted to skip but were in middle school there’s nowhere to go other than the bathroom. Y’all don’t even get the concept of pads yet and thing I’m finna stand in here smelling like ladles and shit? 😂😂😂NO MAAM
Fun episode, thank you. Vet teacher from the trenches here, the number of interruptions and demands WHILE I am doing my job. I kid you not I get to work, ten or eleven emails many that require me to do something. Meanwhile, my team texts pertinent info. ALL day long. Meanwhile, more emails, phone calls, missing coats, books, assignments…I am sixty years old and feeling like this has to STOP.
I am a student teacher and I interviewed the nurse at my placement school and found out they do not send kids home for lice. She said lice do not actually jump heads and students can't wear hats, they said they will not let it affect the kids education. They encourage the parents to clean the students' head and not to discuss it with other students.
They don’t send kids home for ANYTHING any more. I had kids puking their guts up in my room for like a week straight and none of them ever got sent home! It was RIDICULOUS. That’s why I stressed to the parents, keep your frigging sick children at HOME.
"Hey, I get to go home! I get to go home! Give me a big hug!" "OK, baby, there's a big hug. Why are you going home?" "I have lice!!" "...oh.. Well, so do I. Isn't that a coicidence?"
How bad is it when a teacher can’t figure out how to do Kindergarten math? Ridiculous!! I hate these stupid changes. I was a school secretary. I had to call the parents when the kid got suspended. My VP came in laughing and said a mom wanted to kick my ass! I asked him why he didn’t let her in!! Stupid mom thought I was making the decisions about suspensions!! VP thought it was hysterical.
Fish are way simpler to take care of than gerbils. If you have them in an appropriate aquarium that was cycled correctly. They will live for years. Also, fish can be fasted for a few days. It's 100 times better than being poisoned by too much fish food.
At my kids elementary school (I worked there as a para too) the school secretary was a NASTY woman. She was rude to parents, teachers, even used to mouth off to the Principal in front of people. She would call parents out in front of everyone. Not sure how she lasted so long. She was eventually transferred to HS. Maybe they needed someone tougher for the high schoolers.
Lice don't jump or fly. They have to touch heads or share the same brush. I've had kids with lice it takes awhile to get them out and find all the eggs.
Yall have alarms. That's fancy 😒😂 I never did it. But ppl used to skip school all the time and the teachers and admin wouldn't know or wouldn't do anything about it. Leaving out the basement/locker room emergency exit door or out the boiler room. I even have heard of some bold students leaving through the front door. There are no alarms on any of these doors. No cameras in the building. Only cameras on the outside of the school.
Attendance; yeah I could be better, so I developed a new system, created a student job as a reminder, and set a daily timer for each class. Instead of the usual 9:00-9:15 am attendance, we have to take it for all 8 periods. By the end of the day, I’m just worried about classroom management and getting the lesson done and taught well. Plus, every single one of my classes comes to my room after having PE or recess… I have 140 students roughly in total, with on average 35 students per class. 39 is my max; 3rd grade…. In a small portable. It’s hectic, and when one student feels sick, they all do. And, we have a travel nurse and weekly unplanned walkins, with a random walk in last Friday by the ceo of the district…. And, of course the kids walk in 11 min late, after taking a math test prior, feeling sad and disruptive because of a bad grade. Which bad is anything below an 85 for them. Yeah, I was a little late taking attendance.
At BD the skip rate and doing it successfully is like 100% its easy to just go out side and hide lol and the teachers are smashing the students including the deans assistants one of em just married a student that just graduated a few years ago so they musta been seeing each other at the school 🤢
Ithaca and Albany NY are NOT Upstate NY !!!! That is called Central or Capitol District NY. Saranac Lake NY is Upstate NY ! lol. Saranac Lake is 3 to 4 hours North in the true Upstate NY lol.
Dont really like the new format of the podcast. Please go back to the the original host. I feel this is just being used as a platform to promote bored teachers and their comedy shows. This seems like another podcast that has just replaced the old format.
I hear you on that, but it’s refreshing to get new panelist every month. Plus it’s promoting more teachers on this platform than just those four. Stories were getting repeated a lot last seasons.
@@sparklight0964 I would believe honestteachervibes did that but not the others. The others needed to leave as they are not teachers anymore. I am tired of social media platforms being in a teacher and you don’t even teach 🤦🏾♂️
My last school secretary was the wife of the “maintenance director” they together ruined the whole school down. 🫠 17 of like 23 teachers left. The director of the school quit. It’s left a bitter taste in my mouth for my whole career. The kids, love. The extra bull. Bye.

So happy bri is back !!!!

I was thinking the same thing about Liz and came straight to the comments to see if anyone else noticed 😢
They obviously have a rapport that she is not a part of. Must be so awkward for her.
It seemed as if she wasn’t even trying to add to the banter. I thought she was a comedian…
Bri make me wanna be a part of admin so bad, I feel like me and her would kiki every lunch break and after the last bell 🤣

Omg the changes in protocols is insane
Had a family we had to have an outside agency clean them and the home of lice. These two students fight lice every year. Yes, we send them home.

My school secretary is VERY nice but VERY unorganized. She has lost enrollment paperwork and all sorts of things. She's nice, though 😂😂
They do not send kids home for lice or pink eye at my school 😂

Federal embezzlement charges are misdemeanors for under $1,000. Over $1,000, a federal charge is a felony.
In Indiana, the threshold is $750.

True, they no longer send kids home for lice.
Louse eggs are called nits. Louse larvae are called nymphs.
Lice don't jump or fly. They have to touch heads or share the same brush. I've had kids with lice it takes awhile to get them out and find all the eggs.

Lice is a nuisance not a disease
We can send home for bugs but not eggs (nits).

They’re lucky she just knocked on their door because she could have called cps
Bri is looking good.
It's true they don't send them home for lice. The CDC has said it's not contagious, they don't jump, and it's not harmful.
100 percent true that schools don't send kids home for lice anymore. It is ridiculous but true.
The schools I worked wouldn't send kids home for lice because it was considered discrimination.
I think kids need more serious teachers who value their own health over their social status at the school.
Did they take Bri, Lauren, Tel, and Gabe off permenetly
