    Also can you please either do a video on gilding silver, or if you've already done one, please provide a link? Thanks in advance.

    Awesome stuff. What thickness sheet are you using?

    • @brucerussell1791
      @brucerussell1791  3 года назад +2

      I tend to use 1mm when I am raising and up to 2 mm for very large pieces

    How do you prevent fire stain/scale? do you just polish it all off at the end? Thank you in advance!

    • @brucerussell1791

      Hi; use argo tec mixed with methylated spirit to form a slurry and paint on the silver before heating … to remove soak the silver in hot water.
      You can buy from Cookson gold Birmingham if you look on there website

      Another option is to work with fine silver like they do in Asia, no copper, no fire scale. I've often used Boric acid and alcohol to coat sterling.

    Top work. Thanks for this video.
    Do you ever make silver pommels for walking sticks?
    Also with years of hammering how are the hands holding up?
    What issues do you have because of the work you do?

      Hi I am 75 and still enjoy my craft very much. My hands are fine with no problems of 60 years of gold and silversmithing .. not sure what silver pommels are

      @@brucerussell1791 I am 61 and have some issues from working in other industries. Which is why I asked how your hands are holding out.
      So glad to hear all is well.

    Hi Bruce.
    Is there an alternative to Argotec?
    I haven't seen it for sale here in Australia for decades.

    do you have a "vent hole" for the base of the chalice?
    Is one needed?
    Is it a bad idea?

      @brucerussell1791  2 года назад +2

      Hi Steve don’t need a vent hole it fills with water when cleaning

      A mixture of Boric acid and alcohol can also be used.
