- This time on the classic Mini EV conversion... After many failed attempts I finally manage to pull the motor out, now the exciting parts can begin, trying to fit it all in the Mini
When I removed my focus engine without a hoist, I removed the suspension first and sat the chassis on the ground. Removed engine mounts then jacked up body at one end only leaving the engine on the ground. Less sketchy;-)
Nice idea!
Question for you. I’m in the process of doing this. What size socket did you use for the axle shafts? I can’t figure out how to remove these
Hi, did you watch episode 14? That might have the info you need, hope this helps 🤞
@@MiniLifeCrisis I saw you knock it out of the transmission but it appeared you cut off the end to the hub?
@@MiniLifeCrisis I'm at the same point too. I've got the back end clear, but the driveshafts are still in. I did have access to TIS but didn't download all the info. I do recall BMW saying you needed to remove the suspension and wheel assemblies before removing the driveshafts. Is there an easier way without cutting the driveshafts? My car is not a scrapper, I'm trying to get the EME off to get it rebuilt, so I need to drop the motor.
I didn't see anything in episode 14.
I wouldn't might putting a Subaru 2liter flat and using as a gas car should be fun low weight.
In total it's 1500kg I think, the battery pack is 200kg and the rex and motor would shift some weight too. They need to be a bit wider and lower for real fun, maybe some wider wheels for traction. Some people are using these to race now so I'm sure they're fun.
