The screen is the most valuable part. If you find a One plus phone with a pristine screen but the rest is broken, repair is cheap.

Just a quick thing to check. Make sure your storage isn't filling up fast on it, some Oneplus phones are writing large dump files and not deleting them afterwards. This causes the storage to fill up rapidly, LTT covered this issue a few months back.

Happy New Year - and it's great to see that this device is getting a new lease of life! I suppose $AU 400 isn't that bad for a device like the OnePlus 8 - that equates to just over £225, so good value for money. If you had taken the route of selling online, rather than privately, I'm sure you would have seen a profit.

I worked at a repair place for about 2 months and I watched half of the repairs get done super lazily. Main issue was reuse of seals and adhesive being common place. We didn't have all the tools we needed either, the owner just didn't get some of the stuff we needed. I got fired after I sent a lengthy angry email in response to a bogus wright up and as much as that sucks I'm glad to be gone.

The original adhesive on OnePlus phones on the back is really tough to remove. When I replaced the battery of it myself, I wanted to make sure everything was as close to factory as possible, so I replaced the og adhesive with some official back adhesive as well, but like you said, it's tough to remove. I spent like 3 hours trying to remove it with a spudger and some regular isopropyl alcohol.

Trick for making pre cut adhesives stick better. Run a heat source over the adhesive for just a few seconds. Heating it up will make the adhesive stick and when you put the devices back together it will spread out more for a better seal due to the pressure 😊

@@exploringeverything8221 no he did it correctly. It has more to do with the quality of the adhesive. Some of the precut adhesives are just cheaper quality or have been sitting on shelves for months/years causing them to cure/harden so they need a little heat to get them ready

These water indicators are useless. I've had countless phones which have never seen water but the indicators were red when I took them apart because the phone was in my pocket during Summer while I was out. They are too sensitive and should be made to turn red when water actually contacts them not when it's a little foggy outside or I use the phone while taking a bath or when I have the phone in my pocket and sweat a little.
Pro-tip: use a USB-C hub to connect a mouse to the phone when the screen doesn't respond. Should help with data recovery and or turning off some phones which can't be turned off by keeping the power button pressed(looking at you, LG)

I must point some mistakes you've made based on my knowledge so we can all be better tommorow.
    1) After disconnecting the battery, press the power button several times to discharge any electricity. This is to prevent shorts
    2. If possible, replace the water damage indicator
    3. This is uncommon but sometimes the pre-cut adhesive needs to be heated with the right amount of heat to make it sticky again. (If you're replacing them with 3M tapes, just ensure that the tape is not too thick)
    4. To make it more cleaner, wipe off residual liquid adhesive *BEFORE* it starts to harden. You may use a tiny amount of alcohol and maybe use cotton beads for it. But using alcohol after replacing the new screen is risky, so be responsible if you want to
    5. Again, cleaning anything using alcohol is risky after replacing the screen. Try avoid using it because even one drop of alcohol could ruin the entire display if it makes contact
