    What you need is a more abrasive surface to get the skin off. A toilet brush has too much give in the bristles. You need something like a BBQ grate cleaning brush, or a wire bottle brush. The Other alternative is to have a bucket with a very rough internal surface to abrade against the spuds when agitated with the water. You could also try trimming the bristles of your toilet brush so they aren't so bendy.

    Our daughter hates peeling potatoes so much, she bought us an electric potato peeler. However, we have also used a spade bit in a drill, put the potato on the bit, then used the potato peeler while running the drill with the potato on it.

    I like the shotgun method the most. Saves you from having to cut them up. :)

  • @codycheney3401
    @codycheney3401 7 лет назад +18

    Wow the shotgun did a number on my states famous for ! Being from Idaho we know how to peel patatoes ! Of course the Army helped too ! But you don't have be from either to peel spuds fast ! You can use a marshmello or hotdog cooking metal stick from the camping section of big box stores and cut the handle to where it will fit in the drill. Then poke into said patatoes so you can spin them. Then take and spin said spud while holding peeler on said spud and Wha^la you are speed peeling ! So if the aledged spuds are 40 counts then you should be able to peel said spud bag in under 10 minutes ! Good luck !

    Try a clean metal scouring pad works great.

  • @easax3361
    @easax3361 7 лет назад +3

    Well it usually works on new "early" potatoes where the skin is both thinner and looser. The late season potatoes have tougher skin, so you will probably have to get out the good old peeler and some elbow grease.

  • @LiveSimpleLiveFree
    @LiveSimpleLiveFree 7 лет назад

    We NEVER peel our potatoes. The skin is the most nutritious and flavorful part! (It's a lot easier that way, too.)

  • @cindybonem2412
    @cindybonem2412 7 лет назад

    If you use "new" potatoes you can wash them in the washing machine 10-15 lbs at a time. The agitation and banging together removes the skins. Remove pealed potatoes, then use your hand to remove the ring of potato peals from the tub. Don't use soap. We've done it this way for 20-25 years. No problems.

  • @jesperdahl1486
    @jesperdahl1486 7 лет назад +3

    Those looked like new potatoes, so all you need is a new clean kitchen sponge with the scouring pad on one side ( or a 3M scouring pad, as those are larger ( 8x8" ) ) those potatoes will be done in no time

  • @StRain-zx2vo

    cut a circle around potatoes just through skin. blanch them in boiling water for a good 7 minutes, then ice water. the skin sheets off. potatoes are not cooked all the way through, it will complete cooking in canning.

  • @JanetWilham

    another way to do large amounts of ANYTHING is to get an old agitator type washer--then put what ya have in it-add water and throw some of the metal scrubby pads in it and let errr rip----works great--and even cleaning green beans that have grass on them--the lint catcher catches it all--but do not add the scrubby pads as just the friction of bean against bean will clean them--God bless.PS==some used appliance stores still sell those type washers.

  • @alexwithletters3215

    Yes, you did it wrong. There needs to be dirt in the water. The brush, anything really, is for making the water and sand go around and the sand is what gets the peel off the potato. Like a sand blaster. Anyway chug a good amount of sand in the water and it would work.
    The other option is to use a steel brush.
