Wow you are sooo great for the Linux Community putting out 3+ Videos a day. I switched to Nobara because of you and I'm loving it
I do my best for the videos and im goad you love nobara
Nobara has been great for me, it's pretty close to "everything works."
that's great to hear
that transition at 22:23 was pretty smooth. nicely done!
i tried updating the nvidia drivers in nobara 39 and my system white screened. installed 40 and my little alienware R1 is almost the proper steam machine it was always meant to be.
I spent a bit of time on that figured it would look good
Love your tutorials man, it’s a perfect mix of simple, straight forward instruction and dipping your toes into the nuances, keep it up! You made me switch to fedora btw.
I shall
Thank you so much for this video. I think I’ll switch to Nobara from Windows as soon as my college class finishes up. You definitely made this very simple to follow and I’m excited to try my hand at it later.
Great video! Dash to panel is so clean. I am still on CachyOS but I this was still really informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for this, after installing Bazzite I realized I can not install or change anything through commands (perks of being noob) and you just uploaded this video in time for me.
that's great to hear
Matt, I gotta say your channel is great and I use it for a ton of information and learning! I did switch off of Fedora 40 as there were too many problems I could not overcome. But I still watch and takes notes and I use your Discord for more information. I did switch to Ubuntu LTS. I want to thank you again. Awesome!
thanks for the nice things to say
Thanks for your video and your reply to my earlier question! 8)
I try to answer all comments keyword try
I upgraded to Nobara 40, the only hiccup out of the box was only some of the tray icons weren't shown at the beginning. I just re-select the appearance icons and all back to normal (KDE). If only the multiplayer games accept the linux environment (anti-cheat) I easy switch full to linux no doubt about that. Nobara has been an great experience. Specs - AMD 7800X3D pair with AMD 7900 XTX single monitor.
Cool
I like how matt explains things in a very practical and clear way, linux can be accessible to everyone. Great job, I'll forward it to whoever asks me how to install linux... except I'll tell them to go for KDE :P
Yeah, don’t suggest people a certain desktop environment instead, let them choose let them research for themselves. We don’t need to create fanboys.
@@Mattscreative nothing to do with fanboys, KDE is objectively easier and more familiar to set up. The whole gnome extension system can be a barrier.
@@nixiam it’s really not and it may before for you but i did a timing test and gnome is faster to setup custom then kde. Again it’s all about the user in general so it’s not the easiest for a lot of people.
thank you for also showing the gnomoe desktop for this. Been difficult since the default was switched to KDE.
Your welcome
Ventoy is great. Even works with Windows ISOs, when Etcher or Rufus won't. You can even have extra folders on it, great for drivers, movies, anything. One thumbdrive for everything.
not recommend. tons of storys about it breaking peoples usb. honestly rufus will be fine.
Very cool video😁
Thank you 🤗
Thanks man
You're welcome!
What is your current setup OS wise? Would be great to see that.
Nobara has become my favorite disto. It just works and I've had fewer issues with it breaking. Bazzite is a close second and is the best distro for windows handhelds ive used.
Wooot
I'm having a weird issue where I cannot hibernate or shutdown. System appears to just restart or turn back on afterwards. After updating to nobara 40
Both of mine are still on 39 KDE. I'll either upgrade or fresh install when the ISO hits. I did try command line way but that didn't work out on one machine. Seconding just using Nobara Update.
My cursor keeps jumping back to start when i try typing anything. Any solution to this?
So, technically Nobara and Fedora are the same, but the way Nobara is built helps to “not break” stuff during updates, and also does (almost) the hole work for NVIDIA users, right? I was thinking about abandoning Windows… I didn’t used a Linux distro since 2013, so I’m a noob again 😂😂😂… love your videos, keep it up 👍
Kinda. It doesn't necessarily stop anything from breaking, but just grabs everything important that you need without having to install everything manually, including kernel patches, drivers, and nice to haves like game launchers and other niceties.
I shall keep up the stuff
Thanks for the video! ^^, I guess the rising gnome 46 part is only for those who have installed this graphical environment, right?
Yes
after the restart its not updated i returnd to nobara 39
any reason
?
Any how i just subscribed to you ty for your easy to understand videos.Btw is there a reason you picked gnome version?
Gnome is just more stable and im used to it
@@Mattscreative ok ty
Using nobara is like walking on eggshells. The installing process had several error messages eg 3 virtual console error messages and telling me version 39 has expired and the the update center is not in one place so if you update the wrong place you could break the system. Now that I upgraded to 40, I noticed the system update have 29 files sitting there that refuses to update
It happens ge will fix it
Hey Matt, thanks for the great tutorial. I am going to try to install linux for the first time here in a bit. I noticed you were using the gnome variant, if I was wanting to use the KDE variant of Nobara would all these terminal commands work for updating to Nobara 40 as well?
Yes everything is the same minus the gnome stuff
@@Mattscreative Awesome, thanks for your quick reply and all you do. You really make the idea of running linux less intimidating.
You play games like me and I have a question: In your opinion, what is the best distro for games?
Your tutorials are excellent!!
Cachyos
I tried booting Nobara Gnome build from my 12 year old usb and nothing other than the terminal worked application wise
Not sure if something went wrong when writing the image, if the drive just isn't fast enough or what but think it might be time to retire the usb, both my 10+ year old drives seem to be about to **** themselves
hardware issue of that old ass usb
Hey Matt, have you noticed conflicting updated in discover/software center?
Don’t use those to update any thing
I am running BigLinux here but a recent update reset all of my preferences (shortcuts/layout). Really annoying. Nobara is within my target range now but I don't really know how mature it is?
Just how strongly supported is it compared to Linux Mint for instance?
Nobara is hella great i have fully supported since it’s birth and it’s very stable
Also very well supported in its discord and since its fedora at its heart you should be fine
@Mattscreative I imagine creating a seperate home partition might even make it easier to switch to Fedora in the unlikely scenario that nobara is discontinued, right?
Umm
21:21 hey bro i hope you are doing well
i installed nobara and it went great but i have a question for every time i boot to nobara i should choose from where or is there a way to boot directly without choosing from the screen in 21:21 im still new to linux so 😅😅
Head into your bios and choose the boot order then it will auto do ot
narrowed down to Fedora 40 kde or nobara. thanks for this video
loved the video, im still on nobara 39 official kde version. everything works fine except the battery status. battery status never updates and stays on the same percentage forever. does someone know any solution for this issue. my device is asus tuf a15 2021
i think i saw your issue in the nobara discord
i am right now installing this on my pc :P bazzite isnt what i needed
Wicked i am adding time stamps
I wanted to love bazzite too...
if you should only run nobara updater shouldn't they disable the others by default so people dont get confused?
No
i use nobara 39 if i update in nobara 40 will it hard reset my computer? basically reformat anything if i update
Haha no
11:46 I think the term you were looking for was "dependency hell"
No it wasn’t but I just remembered what it is it’s called ppa hell omg thank you for jump starting the memory
@@Mattscreative You are welcome. Even though I got it wrong, at least viewers can see this comment and your reply and know what you were referring to.
So i just followed thos video and upgraded to Nobara 40 last night. Everything went smooth and worked great. This morning Iran the nobara updater on the welcome screen that pops up, it had me restart. On restart i noticed it borked everything. Now nobara wont even start, it just goes to a blank screen that says nobara login and typing the password and hitting enter doesn't do anything. I guess the updater isn't a good thing to use once you're on 40?
Head to the nobara discord they can help the weekend is my off time
@@MattscreativeNaw I just went into Windows and wiped the drive. No time for all that, like you said the weekends are a time to be off.
Can we get an invite link to your Discord, also your Twitch profile is missing.
discord is in the description
don't ask why but when you say "deestro", i think of ET when he says "Elliiioott". i don't know man
Just cape breton english
The almost user-friendly distro... everything by GUI except system upgrade xDDD
Why the h. Nobara 40 is not officially available yet?
Kernel issues
Are you using the gnome or kde version?
Gnome
Works amazingly fast, BUT takes too much space, and with all the package managers gets confusing! 20GB Timeshift snapshot right after the upgrade is too much for me. Also the Nobara Package Manager is clearly bugged, selecting random things by it's own, preventing you to clean old packages to at least free some space!
Are you living in 2005? Get at min a 1tb nvme and a 1tb for backup. Linux is as big as you make it and if you want it smaller remove the things you don’t use
@@Mattscreative Get a real life, man! My custom lite W11 is 7GB installed with everything ready to run any program or game! I did TWO installations for the last 2 and half years simply cause i was bored, and i could still run my old W11 lite for two and half years if i wanted to! WIth linux i did 5 or 6 installations just for the last TWO FKN DAYS and literally got older with 2 days of frustrations LOOOL. cause this doesnt work with that and that needs this and that BS CRAP where you DONT EVEN HAVE A DRIVERS MENU in 2024 LOOOOL and you are asking me if i'm lving in 2005 LOOOL NO, YOU! Can't even set a fps cap in the fkn games, and things like FSR looks like a thing from the future literally LOLOLOL
What about the firewall?
firewall is auto installed it's called firewalld
@@Mattscreative is it automatically secure without touching it so no hackers can hack you? How do you know if the firewall is on as well?
Bro can you make a video on installing cosmic de on nobara
Already did
@@Mattscreative didn't let me check once
@@Mattscreative did got video can you share link
I've done all that and still fastfetch shows Nobara 39 xD
(Officiall - KDE)
34:40 "everything is functioning"
meanwhile the mouse cursor.....
Look man we don’t talk about the mouse cursor the way that Lennox handles the mouse curser is so freaking Janky. It’s honestly annoying.
Will this work on the KDE version?
Yes
Ok thanks
Recently found your channel and been really interested in trying Linux. I've cleared an SSD and wanted to try Linux on it.
Would I need to hit the option to install alongside windows even though its on a separate drive?
Also you probably get this a lot but what's a good first Distro to try for a beginner? Been looking around and its a bit overwhelming. Definitely want to play games and things like that as thats what i use my pc for mostly.
Thanks dude been enjoying the vids trying to learn!
If your using a separate drive your to erase and install and nobara is great for beginners and so is cachyos
@@Mattscreative Thank you!
yes, 1080 videos please
This was 1440p
Im confuse there is no nobara 40 on web page still 39
That’s why it’s an upgrade video and not a clean install video of nobara 40 lol the iso are still being worked on
I see
Do you see ? Do you see
Just a heads up, if you follow the method here to upgrade to 40 don't use the built in Nobara updater. I did and it bricked the install. My guess is the updater is still grabbing the 39 files, but I could be wrong.
Is Nobara 40 stable?
Yes
what makes me wonder: at what cost? everyone says that Nobara better than Fedora for games/content creation. But at what cost?
No cost
Free
@@Mattscreative so there are no tradeoffs?
None
Well at least on Nvidia, steam games were very glitchy for me on Fedora. But I believe GE has implemented some kinda fix for it on Nobara that just works.
