At first his voice was bugging me but the more i watched the more helpful it became since it was so articulate and it really made the video super easy for me to follow and understand. I love that this video was made as i normally end up re reading paragraphs several times over when i read the rules
I hate to say it, but I completely agree with DarkChrisHour. I actually feel that I understand this game less than I did before I watched this. My brain hurts from trying to make sense of the accent, because the great many unexpected stresses on unexpected words, unusual pauses, hand gestures, etc. I really appreciate the effort here, but I am going to have to wait for a native English speaker on this one - the rules are too complicated to dedicate half of my attention to trying to understand the speaker. Sorry if that sounds harsh! Further, I'd much prefer if the camera were focused on the board than the speaker, so that I can see what he is referring to, and consolidate the rules with the game pieces.
camera angle on the board would have been helpful.. and maybe some assets to move across te screen when they come into play.. a stat block, or the little euro sized cards so we can see what is happening
Honestly, at first the accents bugged me, but after listening for a while it started to grow on me. I found the game confusing to learn at first, but watching the two of them play was reassuring. My only suggestion would be to have a camera showing the board from the top down; would be nice to have that overview of the action.
I don't have a problem with this play through at all and it seems like many are just looking for something to complain about. It's clear, it's a well paced video. Turn on the closed captions if you honestly can't understand (but it's not hard to understand)
Thank you for this video. I have worked with suppliers in Switzerland and France for twenty years so I am very used to hearing English with a strong French accent. In addition I must say your English is excellent, I wish my French was a fraction as good. I can see how to a person not used to listening through a strong French accent that this instructional video can be difficult. This isn't a casual conversation but detailed instructions so anything which distracts from the details is noticed much more than usual. I would recommend people watch this more than once if they are having problems. Any person who has a different language as their primary would have the same difficulty here. Part of the problem is Americans are not used to listening through an accent, especially a French one. That is just the nature of having one language dominate the majority of the continent you are on. As far as the hand waving, it doesn't bother me at all. I live in New York and half my family is Italian. It is said the best way to shut up an Italian is to tie his hands up so it does not distract me at all :-)
I'm not italian at all, but I can assure you I also switch to mute mode when my hands are tied. That's quite strange, but kind of funny ^_^ Thanks for your comments ;)
Played this yesterday with four people. It was very slow to get up to speed and there was way too much downtime due to questions which weren't obvious to answer from the rule book. Lots of house ruling and we got enough momentum to make it fun but only just
Just went through my first playthrough of the game. It took a while to figure out and set up, but once we got the hang of it, it was fun. With the right amount of luck, apparently, Harvey Bullock can 1v1 the Joker
This is not intended to be insulting, just a constructive critic of the video. The hand movements is not helping at all. It feels too random and in many ways hinders the learning of the game, because a viewer will start to ignore the hand movement and when pointing to a point of interest, the viewers ignores the gesture. Also the speech, is obviously with an accent (we all have accents to another), which can not be helped. The ability to speak English is great, but the way that there is a pause between most words, and several times in the same sentences draws it out, and causes the view to start to drift off, and missing some the points which are trying to be explained. Kind. of. when. some. one.... makes. a. sentence like this. It. can. complicate The things that. Are trying. to be said. Still grateful for this, and this is meant to help not to take away from the effort put into making this video. This will help many, and I always get new players to watch these while I set up, saves time, so thanks.. I just hope this helps when making other videos in the future.

Yeah, it is the same guy who did the video for Claustrophobia. I have not been able to watch either video through to the end. Those hand movements are just way too distracting.
How did the game end? Was Hannah successful in beating Yohann? :D anyhow, thanx a lot for the video, I am a EU backer and I am really looking forward to receiving the pledge :) the video helped *a lot* in getting the core mechanics in my mind!
I personally don't play like this. I just set everyone up around batman and go "POW", "KABLAM", KA POW" "BANG" "TRUMPET NOISE"! Batman wins every time.
I just have a general question about automatic thought or manipulation. I know what their uses are intended for, but I'm confused. Am I allowed to use automatic thought or manipulation instead of complex thought or maipulation? Let's say for the first mission. Diffusing bombs. Requires a complex manipulation of 6 to succeed. Do I have the choice to do an automatic manipulation instead? Or am I restricted to following up with complex manipulation?
No, seriously. When are we getting a video that teaches us how to play the game? Not the one with the really nice guy trying his best. I mean the highly produced, professional one from the $4.4m kickstarter
So, I want to start by saying that I speak English as my primary language but I also speak Spanish. My parents speak English with a very thick and heavy accent, and I'm used communicating with people who are still learning English. That said, this video was still very difficult to follow. While it hits the points properly, and I don't actually have an issue with the hand motions, this dude's enunciation is off. I knew there would be a problem when he said "asymmetrical" and I had to repeat it in my head to figure out what he was saying. Every one has accents, but a native English speaker would have a much stronger grasp on flow and intonation that is making this difficult to follow. I can only imagine that he had something like notes or cards he was reading off of, and he would pause whenever he reached the end of the text, waiting for more to appear. This is not an easy video to follow and I hope you at least work with a channel like Dice Tower or BoardGameGeek or whomever to make a lessons video with a native English speaker.
As a native English speaker it's fine. Yes, it is obvious he is not native but the instructions are accurate and he is slow enough and precise with the rules. It isn't the developer's job to do let's plays these are icing on the cake. You have Dice Tower and BoardGameGeek to handle reviews, let's plays and community stuff. Leave the devs alone. They are already busy with making other games.
@@jgtogi6839 I agree with this sentiment, I really do. But they went out of their way to do this, and they made it mediocre. The reason I posted at first saying that I was a native English speaker (so I'm likelier to know what he is trying to say) who was used to speaking with people with accents (so I'm likelier to have heard his mispronunciations) is to point out that, even with BOTH OF THOSE ADVANTAGES, this video is not okay.
This is unwatchable. I made it less than 3 minutes before i had to turn off. I appreciate this is your "baby" but please get someone who's first language is English to present the rules, or better still, pay out for a proffesional like Rodney Smith or Paul Grogan to do it. The complaint department in this comment section is so American…. He talk funny… I can’t understand. Get an murican. I had no problem with this video. It’s an accent. Get over it or sadly move on. Everything isn’t English centric…
That said the rule book/mission book for this game is potentially the worst ever written. The board design is a damn struggle also. This company needs some help with their design. This game is mechanically far simpler than they managed to express in their rulebook. And also should be even more simply designed than it is. The complexity to fun ratio for this game is out of whack.
Ah yes, because only Americans speak English. Dumbass The only comment that mentions they should have gotten someone else mentions they should have a gotten a native ENGLISH speaker, not an American, you whingy cunt
He moves his hands WAY too much. It’s so incredibly distracting. Does he do the same thing in normal conversation with people? And I have no problem with the accent, he just pauses and puts emphasis on the wrong words so it causes sooo much confusion. Does he have a script or is he doing this off the top of his head? Please, monolith, not trying to be rude, I understand this is not this man’s native language but please have him practice a bit more or have someone else do it. And those hands... those hands dance around too much it’s soooooo distracting.

I can't imagine explaining a game this complicated in my non-native tongue. Hats off to you, good sir!

I think the way of the speech is ment to be articulate, but the pauses and intonation makes the speech hard to follow.
It's clearly the intonation of a Latin language like French. It doesn't go very well with English, indeed! :|
