@@eileenstolte1417 I discovered her through Todd Rundgren who said Nyro was a big influence on his music. That led me to all these great songs that I never knew were hers.

Twenty-five years ago a bright light dimmed when Laura passed. But, years before that, I was blessed, living in Boston, and my job was working with a crew of other college-age guys handling security at concerts at the Boston Garden, and throughout New England colleges hosting campus-facility concerts. Going to college at UMass-Amherst was difficult some days when I drove, after UMass classes, from Amherst-to-Boston, worked a Boston Garden concert, and then had to drive two-hours back to Amherst because I often had an 8am or 9am class, three-days-a-week.. The best part of the job was working security outside of the talent's private rooms. Many times, there'd be loads of liquor, beer, ice, mega sandwiches and more for the talent and their hanger-ons. Some talents and their crews had a special culinary need: chocolate chip cookies; shrimp; But one night I drew Laura's private room. It had cokes and Pepsi, ice, and a vat of ice cream. That's it. Nothing more. (Usually, you let the talent be, other than introducing yourself to any manager traveling with the talent to ask if they'll need or want something. The talent's record label would assign someone to travel with the talent, but I cannot remember who was traveling with her.) So, I did that with Laura, and she was so kind and inviting. I asked if she wanted anything and she smiled, "no, I'm fine," she replied, so I opened the door, starting to back out-of-the-room, and she asked "what's you name." I replied "Rick, Ms. Nyro." "Rick, I'm Laura," she said, "not Ms. Nyro." After the concert, she came back to the room, packed a very small suitcase, a guitar and flute and said "Rick, thanks for all your help." She blew me a kiss, then walked out of my life. I still miss that moment!

She is so deeply immersed in her music - and was truly 'badass' before anyone really knew what that meant. I admire - and miss her. What music she could have made if given more time...
I feel in the short ,so to speak Run Laura had .It is unmatched by anything in the last 30 or more yrs. Maybe a century-Singers and so called artists today ,a good 99% cant sing a lick or compose a scratch pad worth of original music. It's Foolery at the highest level and People sheeple are buying it.
I absolutely agree, Nancy. She regarded herself primarily as a poet ( which ofcourse she was ), and I for one think that her lyrics are finer and more original than Bob Dylan's ( and for which he was recently awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature ). But I think you put your finger on it - her genius was a gargantuan one, and in a sense her talent was too big for her times to handle. She was a very great singer, a remarkable and influential composer, and a superb lyricist. Society often finds it difficult to honor one whose gifts are so manifold. But we're catching up to her now, and that's a good thing.
Me too! Will be 52 next month, a music fan my whole life, and I knew Laura as a songwriter, but not her voice and all the great lyrics and her playing and seeing. She was so gifted, so passionate. Love her. Can't stop thinking about her and listening!
Flew from Texas to China in early December 2016 on business. Long flight, Lauro was one of the listed audio options, and it was one of my life's greatest pleasures to be able to sit back, relax and hear her song with such beauty, talent and fervor.

I was so happy to hear the news when Laura Nyro was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm only sorry it took so long, she was an original and I've always loved her music, dating back from the late 60's. My dad was a fan of her music, he taught my sisters and I to appreciate the lyrics. Her music will live forever, she and Carole King are some of the original great songwriters. Thank you
Both versions are great. Barbara couldn't do a bad version of anything. But Laura slipped up on me. Never heard of her til recently. And now I learn that she wrote all of these great songs that have been part of my life for 50 years.
I saw her live performance in 1971. It still gives me goosebumps to think about it. Her voice. Her charisma. Her talent. I sat in awe through the whole concert. A small venue of maybe 300 seats

There is nobody quite like Laura and her music. She was truly one of a kind. I fell in love with her as a teen and followed her music until her death. Heaven is now filled with her music.
Probably the most influential female artist in contemporary music in the last 50 years. She has influenced scores of female singers and songwriters since Joni Mitchell to date. And many males as well such as Elton John, Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, to name a few. While in the music industry she is known to everyone from jazz artists to the many rappers that have sampled her (eg Kanye in 'Glory'), I find it intriguing that Laura is relatively obscure with the public: probably because she never had her own big hit single in an era when that was the key to getting known, through AM radio.

30 or more yrs.
Women are under-appreciated in all fields it seems.
I'm ready to agree only when someone brings to my knowledge her equivalent of Visions of Johanna
The original and the best version !
Me too! Will be 52 next month, a music fan my whole life, and I knew Laura as a songwriter, but not her voice and all the great lyrics and her playing and seeing. She was so gifted, so passionate. Love her. Can't stop thinking about her and listening!
There are some really great and not so great covers of this song, but Laura’s is still the best!
Hugely under rated female artiste. This is real music.
Flew from Texas to China in early December 2016 on business. Long flight, Lauro was one of the listed audio options, and it was one of my life's greatest pleasures to be able to sit back, relax and hear her song with such beauty, talent and fervor.
There was something so magical about the late 60's/early 70's singer/song writers ..... and Laura Nyro seems to capture it all in her music. Noooo, dammit I am NOT cryin' ...
I envy you. I am 65 now . My older sister and brother listened to her . I still do now. I don't think they give her enough credit. She is a marvelous songwriter, singer , composer and pianist.
what an amazing lyric... Laura Nyro makes me weep (in a good way)whenever i hear her music..
Her voice gives me goosebumps. Unbelievable voice.
This is the best version of this song, period.
What a brilliant, brilliant song from an iconic song writer.
Wonderful article about her in today’s Wall Street Journal so have been looking for my old albums until I slapped my forehead and said YOU TUBE! What a great voice; like meeting up with an old friend.
@Lovemylovething Totally agreed. Nyro was an original; no one like her before or since.
"The zeal for ranking impedes thought." Martha Nussbaum
I saw her live performance in 1971. It still gives me goosebumps to think about it. Her voice. Her charisma. Her talent. I sat in awe through the whole concert. A small venue of maybe 300 seats
Linda Ronstadt also does a very good version of this song.
LInda Ronstadt's version is superior to Barbara, IMO.
Special talent.
She wrote alot of great music.I still play her She's Timeless
I listened to Laura Nyro all thru highschool, her music made you think & took you on mind trips that way.. I still have Laura's first two albums, and I have always treasured them! Laura was the first lady of musical storytales... her music is so meaningful & natural in every way, she started a fury wayyy back, these artists today do not compare... Thank you for leaving the world such treasures. RIP Laura...
There is nobody quite like Laura and her music. She was truly one of a kind. I fell in love with her as a teen and followed her music until her death. Heaven is now filled with her music.
Everyone else that plays your music is nothing more than an imatation. You are the real deal with your fantastic vocal range! RIP sweetie!!
She’s the goddess of music 🎵🎶
Always come back to Laura when I'm a bit drunk but want to hear where it all started. You always be with us Laura.
Singer, songwriter, musician, and one of America's greatest talents taken too soon. Why hasn't someone made a biopic of this treasure?
I love the way she sings her own songs. Much better than the other artists. Love her so much.
The best of the great pop women singers from the 1960s.
She was a trailblazer and a legend in the truest definitions to both of those words.
One of my favorite artists for almost 50 years!
Her voice is miracle i love it
Every time I hear the fantastic voice of Laura Nyro I get goosebumps. Amazing music.
love Laura.....cried the day she died!! her music lives on!!
Phenomenal songwriter and a beautiful soulful singer. Above top shelf.
Laura Nyro was one of a kind and no one comes even close to her.
You are absolutely right.
true!
Doesn,t make the cut.
great singer it so brings back the 60s such a good version special lady
Her music is played every day at my house
Heard "Gonna Take A Miracle" many years ago.I mwas blown away. Laura was a creative dynamo! To gifted for the music business because she had it all. Couldn't catagorize a musician, composer, vocalist like LAURA. SHE WAS TO GOOD!
I never knew Laure wrote that! Wow
@@eileenstolte1417 it was written by Randazzo, Weinstein and Stallman. However Laura did an album in 1971 with Labelle called It’s Gonna Take a Miracle that included the song and many other R&B covers of songs she loved growing up.
This album with all these great songs was possibly the greatest album ever by a female artist. Hands down. Period. IT was a once in a century assembly of writing and singing I have ever heard. Today while walking my dog, Banjo, I listened to it again on my Ipod. I was reminded of my youth and how I loved these songs and , Laura Nyro.
For someone so well known as a songwriter, she had an incredible voice in her own right, exemplified powerfully in this song
What a great song writer and singer.
All these years, I've only ever known the Streisand version. Thanks.
her voice gives me chills :) i just love it
Me too!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. LAURA.YOU LIVE ON THROW YOUR SONGS TODAY I PLAYED STONEY END FOR THE FRIST TIME TO MY 15 YEAROLD DAUGTHER KRISTIN!! SHE LOVED IT!!!!!!
I can listen to this song and her all day. The only problem I have with this song is that it's too short
Don't believe we'll ever see another liker genius
She was a gift.
this song has been going through my mind for 45 years, great to hear it again.mmmmwahhh!
She strikes me as the woman you would want to sing in your house. She is a gift.
This song has been running in my mind for a couple months now, trying to remember who did it and finally found it. What a take back
Wow, I'm 52 and only just discovered this voice!! The sweetest thing I've ever heard.
What a year, 1968. What a voice, Laura! RIP.
Going down the Stony End. Great song! Cradle me again. The fury and the matching thunder has matched my raging soul.

Welcome to the Nyro worship club, Katy!
Thanks for sharing your comments Whiz
@@katymartin5026 Get it, like "hero"? That's how it's pronounced, in case you didn't know.
Ten times better than Barbra Streisand. I was 21 when I first heard of Laura Nyro and wow I was blown away!!! And still am 46 years later!!!
A MILLION times better than Streisand.
Agreed. She's indelible on ones memory soul
Barbara who?
I heard Streisand’s version first. Once I heard Laura, Barbra sounded like a child with a Mr Microphone.
Cant compare the two . like comparing Joplin with Maria Callas , different intonation Nyro was raw Streisand is polished. both great vocalists
Laura Nyro's musical talent made a lot of singers and musicians very wealthy.
Thank you wonderful Lady for the joy you brought to so many of us.
This made me weep uncontrollably tonight. Thanks again Laura, I needed it.
Cradle me, mama, cradle me again.
every song she sing gives me shivers down my spine whenever I hear them
She was amazing !!!! Brilliant !!!
so much talent, I have never stopped loving you Laura
