    I remember this was supposed to be on TV here in Britain in the early 90s. I had seen it in the TV guide and circled it, I was looking forward to it all week, it was all anyone could talk about at school, we couldn't wait. Then on the day I sat down to watch it, but it wasn't on, football was on instead. I was so disappointed. It's great to finally see the war of the monster trucks after all these years!

      I remember back in the mid 80's Christmas time and ITV, this and other special Monster Trucks special used to come on and I`d get my best VHS and record and watch over and over again.

      This was decent but the first two shows were better, Battle and Return, during the first two is when i feel the USHRA was more independent with less regulations and the owners built as individuals with few guidelines. By part 3, War, I could tell a bit of change in the culture as it began the journey towards what we see now in Monster Jam, a suit-and-tie corporate culture where everything is monitored and measured and weighed like NasCar.
      I can watch the 1984-1988 stuff all day long, but todays Monster Jam is my nap times.
      To me the spirit left long ago.

      @@delljr2769 when they were still trucks, or at least based of real cars and trucks and vehicles, and they had variety in engines and designs, now about the latest inventive thing was an electric powered bigfoot, but it dont have the hype of the roaring engine, and you dont have the monster tanks, sure its safer now and can do more things with them and quite a bit more power, but I like to watch racing not just freestyleing and who can rip and smash their truck up the most, and after all all the monster jam trucks are owned by the same entity, its canned it dont have bigfoot or the genuine team vs team anymore on tv. and you dont have the differant configs, like as I said in other comments on the classic monstertruck videos like the allison engin on awesome kong 2, monster van with its diesel, or the doubles of the big foot fasttrax. or little preditor for that matter.
      as for me herculies doing a car crush at our towns fair days back in 1986 or so, then came back in 87 its was getting ready to rain I remember the lightning in the background as herculies jumped into a wheel stand going over that first car, though they had to hit it with starter fluid as it refused to turn over at first.

    Anyone else in their 40s who went to these events as a kid now asking themselves why anyone thought it was ok to have families with kids sitting floor level with just a plywood fence for safety between them and a monster truck? My 80s child hood was dangerous but man was it fun.

    Back when monster trucks were actual trucks and not pieces of fiberglass screwed to tube chassis. Check out the dudes hanging out the window. No helmet. Badass moustaches. Love the 80s. But then again, we now have trucks doing backflips and getting massive air. Great to see where it all started.

    Classic stuff. They seemed so cautious back then, compared to today where these things are doing backflips.

    • @bwilliams463
      @bwilliams463 5 лет назад +3

      They were pretty primitive in those days, compared to the 21st-century purpose-built trucks. Those military-surplus axles broke CONSTANTLY, especially if the trucks came down from much more than ten feet in the air. You'll also notice how few of the 80s monster trucks had big-time sponsors; what these guys broke, they not only had to fix, they had to PAY for.
      I love the old ones and the new ones, myself; these early machines were imperfect but more down-to-earth, but it is AWESOME to watch the modern monsters do the back-flips, innit?

      Monster trucks in the 80's legitimately had a huge effect on the shortage of late 50's, 60's, and 70's cars. Tens of thousands were sacrificed to the monsters.

    First Blood did better that night. The tug-of-war was a high spot in this video, you dont see that anymore.
    This 3rd tape was the worse of the 3, it was so bad they had to edit in footage from the first two tapes, they just used different camera angles.
