I find you cannot fly the F-14B like any other aircraft in DCS or you will just bleed energy and stall out. Fly it like a BF 109-G4 or FW A-5 in IL2:BOK and you will own the skys. Keep your energy up and stay around 350 speed in a dogfight. Which can be a pain to tell with the speedo being on the side of the cockpit and not hud but eventually you get a feel for it. Pretty much if shes shaking shes mad at you, if its smooth you are in the pocket.
Yeah I'm starting to get that sense of when she's behaving well. Maneuvering is quite subtle art with this beast. The less I try to force her, the better she performs.
@@yamabushi170 You cant demand things from her, you can suggest it and if she is in a good mood she will do just what you want. but she is easy to piss off..
Perhaps interesting to note on the spoilers is that aside from aiding your roll they actually prevent the aircraft from twisting itself to bits. They were added because the stabilizers are so large (approx. the size of the wings of an A-4) and have such massive authority that they would otherwise twist the plane at the section where the engines are :)
Great vid again. I'm surprised a 1000 of these aircraft didn't hit the ground just do to the more moving parts=more failing parts. lol. Amazing. I was engaging the speed brake looking at the wings. missed the huge dragster parachute at the back. I managed to map the DLC on stick but the extra understanding was very valuable. Thanx again
This thing is a joy to FLight with Headtracking + Xbox Controller I use LB and RB as modifier (as well as select as a Switch for Combat mode) :Left Stick: Pith/Roll, as usual, but the magic is in the right stick: As base, I use it for DLC control: Forward increase, Aft: Decrease. LB modifier + Right stick controls the flap. RB Modifier + Right stick: Controls the zoom. If you release the RB modifier first, the axis get stuck in the position you want, So you have a lot of fine tune axis control for the Airplane. Freeing up Y and B that I usually use for Flap and brake, allow me to get two extra digital Axis: Y/B = Brakes extend/retract. RB+Y/B Wings manual Swept forward and Aft. Throttle is, as usual, dedicated on X and A buttons.
What about the extendable fins at the forward section of the wingroot leading edge extension? I'm talking about the fins that are supposed to inhibit "mach-tuck" when flying supersonic (with CoG or CoM).
Great work on the tutorials, they have been a great help. As for your Stick which is a x56 right? I noticed you don't use seitek profiles. Its easy enough to set up and will give u 3 times the amount of buttons per plane. for example, Make 2 profiles using keyboard keys by entering them in to seiteks profile as keybinds. leave the last profile blank and use that for the profile for your joystick commands that are already set up. You can make profile one carrier landings. profile two rio short cuts and so on. also im not sure if you got the mouse nipple working, but that can be used for slewing targets when changing to bands. anyways hope that was some help. said all that and ur prob using a TM lol
OMG haha now this is going to be embarrassing. I have used the wrong input on my jostick when i flown the big cat XD Now shes flying sooo gracefully :)
I would appreciate it if you could let me know if I am able to use DLC along with auto throttle. When I engage both, they interact with each other, making both useless. If I retract the spoiler with DLC the throttle is automatically decreased, which counteracts the intention to have have more lift.
Why my slats got stuck after landing... sometimes one of them got stuck, sometimes both! I didn't hit any of my wings, the landing seems fine to me. Can someone tell me why?
@@grimreapers Thanks for replying Cap. This problem occurred to me multiple times. I was doing some testing this afternoon with my Tomcat. The result is, I think I might have damaged the slats. Usually the slats retract with the flaps, but if I fly my aircraft with some heavy speed while the flaps are up, this might hurt the slats resulting one or both of them getting stuck... well I might be wrong, maybe it's just a bug in the sim, not sure how it works in real life... So I was landing on the carrier again with minimal speed, then I carefully put my flaps up, landed successfully, and the slats are fine. Tried flying in the air aggressively, put my flaps up with no reason, flip a few rounds, then my slats starting to stuck. Slats no longer retract even when I tried to put my flaps down with a keybind. I wasn't able to find a manual switch to retract the slats though, maybe there is a switch somewhere so I can manually retract them?
Can somebody help me turn off “auto flaps”? It’s bugging me so bad that it won’t let me deploy them while landing, it keeps them on 0. Every time I try to extend them, they extend for 2 seconds and the automatic system puts them right back up to zero again.
@@grimreapers Thanks! And thanks for all the tutorials, keep them coming. I'd love to see a tutorial how to control JESTER to detect/see enemies and IFF them. Because I often get killed without being aware of the enemies, and often contacts remain unknown. JESTER doesn't seem to work very independently.
Iam very new to dcs world and i have tons of problems to control the F14. When i turn the plane lets say to the left then all the sudden it starts to turn right wich leads to loss of control and i crash most of the time, i have managed to save the plane couple of times. I checked that there is no conflict in the controls and the flaps are in flightmode. I dont know what iam doing wrong here :/
It's called adverse yaw. It's created by the downward deflection of the aileron due to the increased induced drag. So, in short, it's an unbalance of drag on the wings. Most smaller aircraft (like a cessna 172 etc.) has frised ailerons to even out the drag and overcome adverse yaw. On larger jets (passenger jets included) you will quite often see the aircraft turning using ailerons at low speeds, and spoilers (spoilerons) at high speeds. There are mainly 2 reasons for that. At high speeds ailerons, placed on the outer part of the wing) creates quite a moment arm in force during turns which can have a high load factor on the wings. Spoilers are placed closer to the wing root and will therefore have less of a moment arm... The Tomcat uses it all as CAP says and with those variable sweep wings it needs all the tricks it can get. Only downside is complexity and the weight of the system as a whole. Later passenger jets actually adopted the automatic spoiler deployment to increase drag during approach and decent. It's featured on the 787 due to the insane amount of lift that wing creates...
@@JD-ip4sp ahh thnx for all the info :) seems like i have some training to do :p lots of info to take in and wild girl to tame but hope one day i can fly her as good as i fly the mig-29 well good and good but ok at least haha :)

I don't believe anyone has done a FCS tutorial before and it's definitely needed for the Tomcat. Thanks Cap.
Excellent video. This was one part of the F-14B that I hadn't yet comprehended.
The Tomcat was truly ahead of it's time. So many cool features.
yup really cool
No wonder.. it was built by grumman, they built the lunar module around the same time.. so practically everything they did was ahead of its time 😂
Another good one Cap! I was confused about DLC, but not now...
Thanks for explaining something else I was confused about on the Tomcat.
Massive improvement in commentary, very confident!
thx Cap is learning aviation!

wow! amazing knowledge.
They also help overcome the Tomkitty’s massive moment of inertia with its wings spread.
These tutorials are gold man hell of a good job.
Very nice, that video answered all my questions reg. the FCS and DLC. Hard to forget now, thank you! :)

they are only usable in the A version and in the B,C &D version they were permanently retracted and locked
i ll do some joy button combos with shift and strg and coolie hat to get enough funktions on my ms prec 2 sidewinder

you can still roll without rudder but rollspeed is way wither with aditional rudder input. and it only realy works with load on the wings.

how is your camera so smooth bro

How don't you have enough buttons in your Hotas for DLC? I can do it and I'm using a T16000m while I have a foot injury instead of the usual warthog.
