I've heard dozens of interpretations of this sonata.... this is THE BEST by far. Just try and compare a few and tell us. That cadenza right immediately after the trill (trino) is out of this world. Thank you Ivo.
Ivo Pogorelich is my favourite pianist since I have been started learn to play piano. Now,after 35 years,he is my no1 piano player.Only one pianist could compare with him and it is Michail Pletnev. And maybe Lugansky. But for me.Ivo is a genious!Deep respect !And I will always recomanded his performanses as example of Scarlati ,Chopin......
The late great harpsichordist and baroque music scholar Scott Ross was dismissive of both Glenn Gould as a Bach interpreter and Horowitz as a Scarlatti player. See the short French film about him on RUclips, which includes performances and masterclasses.
This version is the best...period. Sorry people, but at this point when I think of this gem from Scarlatti, I cannot hear any version in my head other than this one...
So damn good it's sickening to see, that tone he is creating and the thrills he make are so perfect. I just finished playing this myself but I mean finished in what sense, if it should sound like this I am no where near finished.
I guess he is both. I guess he is one of most self-critic persons in the world. This is why he is one of the best pianists of all time, but it cost in his happiness. (You can see him very serious and even unsatisfied after many of his performances)
Have you noticed how small and shallow the keyboard seems with his hands on it?! But it is what he does with them that matters, eh...an amazing pianist!
To my mind his touch and general interpretation is as near perfect as anyone could expact. The only other person I've seen come near to this is Ralph Kirkpatrick himself.
Pogorelich! One of the greatest artists of our time - of that I am sure! Like a Nureyev of the keyboard, his is all passion and poetry. He never ceases to amaze me. As individual as his interpretations sometimes are, he always makes absolute sense to me. What a blessing to hear these wonders.... Phillip Wilcher
lol, do you see the crazy look on his face when he have taken the flowers. It's like, eeeh, ok then... enough is enough. He got tired of taking flowers out of girls hands and the final smile when he sits down is just a crazy one where he would like to slap someone. Great performance!
He was never the same after the death of his teacher, mentor and wife Aliza Kezeradze. His performances since then have been inconsistent but he has never stopped being a great artist.
Maybe for a moment, you can think about Pogorelich's music not about what the media made him look like. He is a great genius, and one of the most original musicians ever.
Beautiful!
after watching Horowits and Pogorelich, it taught me that I can appreciate the art of piano more since everybody has their own way of playing. I am a piano major and my prof tell me I should curl my fingers more, but then it takes my focus off the music bc im trying to curl my fingers. Either way, it will still sound beautiful!
I agree with your criticism of this performance but have a listen (I think it can be downloaded from iTunes) to his recording (for DG) of the same piece and I'm sure you will agree there is a big difference and that the studio-recorded interpretation is sublime (maybe the tempo is a fraction uneven- not sure and don't care).
@MrSharpAss Pogorelich is not deaf, but he is blind (color). He can't distinguish between the black and white keys on the piano so he has to use feel to play.
His playing is so incredibly smooth and delicate. There’s so much finesse in this short piece
Great artist. Pogorelich's mind is always searching, even during the performance, for a fresh approach. Just a great artist.
Incredible. I knew Pogorelich was good, I didn't know he was that good.
That little pause at 2:41 - terrific.
Uploaded on Sep. 29 2006. Right from the beginning of RUclips the person who uploaded this did something valuable for the people on this platform.
Beautiful delicate playing by Pogorelich
Somehow the fact that this is LoFi makes it even more magical...
This is the sixth time I've listened to this piece in a row. What a refinement, this was definitely a successful concert for Pogo!
PREciosso !!

your right Sir..also marvellous! absolutely...
Did not know this one yet.
I really like this one ruclips.net/video/-u76lw5r0q4/видео.html
I was at one of his concerts in the Filharmonie in Colgne. Outstanding , breathtakingly beautiful . According to me , one of the greatest ever .
Me encanta SCARLATTI, COMO TODOS LOS DE SU EPOCA!
So interesting the way he just cuddle the music, using the piano like if it was a little injured bird.
So lovely.
I love his scarlatti ! so brilliant and refreshing !
He creates magic.

How about Richter or Glenn Gould
+sergeyyak or horowitz, cziffra, arrau...
Glenn Gould? Surely you jest. A genius in his own mind.
The late great harpsichordist and baroque music scholar Scott Ross was dismissive of both Glenn Gould as a Bach interpreter and Horowitz as a Scarlatti player. See the short French film about him on RUclips, which includes performances and masterclasses.
Without forgetting his masterly interpretation of Gaspard de la nuit!!
So wonderful and light...full of joy... amazing to watch as well!!!
A keyboard touch that makes even Gould's iconic finger work sound prissy in comparison.
Arguably Best scarlatti sonata and best interpretation
Yes, a truly excellent, clean and inspiring performance by Pogorelich.
Quanta leggerezza, vitalità e colore in questo Scarlatti Pogorelick👏👏👏
Ivo plays this Scarlatti Sonata L.366 is the best in the world. What a beautiful tone, this is the best I've ever heard on this piece. Bravo~~~~~
absolutely wonderful, sublime, genial, sensitive, incredible playing. So light and so SCARLATTI!
Wonderful...Scarlatti and Pogorelich!!
Great sound production. Genuine pianism.
Superb as ever - Ivo, you are a GENIUS
This version is the best...period. Sorry people, but at this point when I think of this gem from Scarlatti, I cannot hear any version in my head other than this one...
Same thing with Bach-English Suites
Oh so wonderfully refined.
Great music and performer...best piano vid on YT for sure
POGORELICH!!! he will be my favorite to the end of my life....
I quite agree. "Once an Ivo Pogorelich fan, Always an Ivo Pogorelich fan."
Ivo Pogorelich ~ definitely in my top ten !!!
They way he holds his hands is so unique and his fingers are so powerful!!
Absolutely amazing...I love this performance!!!
So damn good it's sickening to see, that tone he is creating and the thrills he make are so perfect. I just finished playing this myself but I mean finished in what sense, if it should sound like this I am no where near finished.
super Scarlatti !
I guess he is both. I guess he is one of most self-critic persons in the world. This is why he is one of the best pianists of all time, but it cost in his happiness. (You can see him very serious and even unsatisfied after many of his performances)
Much movement above the knuckles,
Such calm above the palms,
Few signs of physical struggle,
In these Pogorelich psalms.
Have you noticed how small and shallow the keyboard seems with his hands on it?!
But it is what he does with them that matters, eh...an amazing pianist!
Fantastic Scarlatti bravo
Absolutely beautiful. After hearing this and his Gaspard, I am a fan.
A jewel of a performance. I never really rated Scarlatti until now!
Wonderful! So many different ways to play the piano - Horowitz's fingers are almost flat, and Pogorelich's are almost curling under.
Absolutely lovely, delicate and perfectly played..a true delight everytime I listen! (& watch)
What a blessing!
Such a great performance.
It's indeed an *exceptional* (even if in lo-fi) performance of the K. 1!! So lightful and impulsive, really... magic.
Ah yes, Pogo just owns Scarlatti. Delightful.
What a great pianist!
What a great musician!
What a pity Ivo stopped concerting...
Unico!!!
This is a legend.
I've always admired Pogorelich for his ability to play any piece of music flawlessly and effortlessly.
To my mind his touch and general interpretation is as near perfect as anyone could expact. The only other person I've seen come near to this is Ralph Kirkpatrick himself.
BRAVISSIMO..!!!💎🌞

Great performance!
Impeccable phrasing.
My god, this is making me cry.
"people with class know it." WOW. You sure enlightened me.
Fantastic!
This is really good. Nowadays something strange happens to him, I listened live to his Chopin, an absolutely weird performance.
He was never the same after the death of his teacher, mentor and wife Aliza Kezeradze. His performances since then have been inconsistent but he has never stopped being a great artist.
Di una grazia stellare!
He looks so serious or so full off wisdom at the end...
WoW!! very nice!!!
In the Chopin Competitions in Warsaw he was an 80's fashion victim but here he looks like an 18th century man.
I am so proud that i come from the same land that he does!!!! He is genial!! But on harphe sounds also veeery nice!
Maybe for a moment, you can think about Pogorelich's music not about what the media made him look like. He is a great genius, and one of the most original musicians ever.
Ha una tecnica impeccabile.
breathtaking
Wonderful!
Fantasticno!
That's a lot of flowers..

Amazing!
Very cute! (the pianist and the music, of course!)
che classe!!!
BRAVOOOOO
Best Scarlatti K1.
scarlatti perfecto
0:39 For music
Bravo!

Hohh!! i love that sequence!
Beautiful but my untrained ear wished it was a microsecond slower so that i can catch up following him. This is my favourite Scarlatti sonata.

perfect light touch
Sublime!
He looks so happy...
Katrin because the concert has gone to the end XD
This encore by Pogorelich reminds of a special word : gossamer........
🎹🎶🥰
@MrSharpAss

WOW! very nice!
Can't comment but saying that an hopefully short asylum recovery is heartily recommended=
He‘s unbelievebale
The best!
Genius.
