Thank you! Was a bit of an experiment. Can do it by feel on small things like this-just the right pressure setting the brick, etc. and this one worked out pretty dang well, to my surprise.
Technically yes. But just no reason. Triple or quad wythe w/ modular brick is meant to be used like this for building-what all the old masonry buildings do.
Appreciate it! I just use this handy online tool: www.mathopenref.com/arcradius.html. I enter width (chord) and rise (height), and it spits out the radius.
3:03 was the part I REALLY WANTED to see. Awesome.
Your series of residential courtyards reminds me of something out of Hassan Fathy's designs. Very cool!
Thank you!
How did u build them different without leveling each one as u went up and it came out spot on same size bond so it matches up ???????? Amazing work

This guy is amazing, I've never seen anyone work that fast.
Practice makes perfect...
Peace Family,
Excellent Bro!!!
☀️
It looks very grand
Thank you!
Really nice work looks very old love how the mud looks rustic
Appreciate it. Yep, we kinda like making mortar more natural. And here since not a house we just trowel cut.
wow those dark spaces at the top really stand out, this looks amazing
Part of why we love brick! Depth and shadows.
Thanks.
Looking nice man, true craftsman
Appreciate it!
Beautiful to watch. How did you get the courses of the two pillars to line up?
I think he said that he just built and then for the last 3-4 he used his level
@@williamwhite1078 Nice, thanks
A level!
Or how did he figure the arch rise to span and have all the brick and mortar same width.?
So cool !
Thanks!
How was the muck at the bottom not hard as a rock by the time you come around to joint it?
Leaving trowel struck, not pointing it.
Nice work
Thanks!
Looks good ese real nice
Thank you!
which programm do u use to calculate the radius of the arch?
Just Google "raidus of an arch" and multiple calculators will pop up!
Nice skill
Bro is it safe to have that arch without any support. I mean if we increase the height of the arch to lets say 5 ft is it gonna hold
Yep arches are incredible efficient! Strength through geometry.
what sized footings did you build ?
Small for something like this; about 18" deep and extending about 8" beyond brick around all sides.
@@BuildingCulture thanks
That was awesome!
Thank you!
Where do you get brick that has that more rustic, reclaimed look?
It’s a General Shale brick, called Cambridge. Out of their Denver plant.
Great technical ideas and fun to watch 🥵🥵🥵
Could you use cinderblock in the middle instead of so many bricks? Will it have the same outcome?
Technically yes. But just no reason. Triple or quad wythe w/ modular brick is meant to be used like this for building-what all the old masonry buildings do.
Okay so modern people can do this just fine, can you explain why people are finding full size windows buried beneath street level?
Is there anything you do to finish the brick/mortar so that it doesn’t look so messy?
Sure. You can use a tuck point. Going for a different look here-more organic/natural/utilitarian. Brick that’s too perfect can look sterile.
your hired.
These are the people that build civilization
Appreciate it!
Ola
Bellissimo trabalho.
Pode ensinar
Germano Marcos-Brasil
so you purposefully dont wet the bricks so you can remove it all later?
also the pointing work is garbage.
Just a backyard arch and like the rough, hand made look. Easy to do joints neater, but didn’t want to!
very nice work, thats very similar to what im about to build.
the only difference is im using solid brick so i will be grouting the inside of pillars
and some rebar
Yes indeed, nice work.
Appreciate it!
Great work fella just wondering what the app is you used to calculate your rise ?

Thanx dude
Where possibly could I go wrong /?
Exactly! Just try it.
Nice work Austin - you might be interested in Rob Songer's work. check out his YT channel.
Great recommendation. He's got a lot of interesting content. Just subscribed!
To many gaps.
Just a rough arch and rustic look
👍👍👍
