They Should've Never Let the Lakers Get Dalton Knecht...

- The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Dalton Knecht with the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and he might just be the biggest steal of the draft. The 6'6" shooting guard out of Tennessee was mocked all over the place heading into the NBA Draft, with most mock drafts having him in the top 10.
Somehow, Dalton Knecht fell all the way to the Los Angeles Lakers outside of the lottery, and they might've just tricked the entire NBA. Under new head coach JJ Redick and alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers just got a lot better, fast.

I hope them lights don’t get too bright. Every shooter gets with LeBron and then suddenly can’t throw a rock into the ocean
Them foreigners be different
Why it got to be get with lebron why not on the lakers it's not lbj faults he pass them the ball for the to strink lol
Dalton is basically a bigger JJ. I think JJ will see him as a personal project and will make sure he is a good contributor as a rookie.
Ray Allen was him 🤔 Mike miller Shane battier
Because he gives it to them when the shot clock has already expired.
I hope he still know how to shoot when he get to LA
😂 Please for the love of god!
🤣🤣😅
If they move the ball to keep him in rhythm instead of getting cold and expecting him to hit he will he coo.
Unfortunately we have the worst luck with sharp shooters coming to the Lakers they all end up forgetting how to shoot 😭🤦🏽♀️🤣
Im a Tennessee fan and this kid was in the gym by himself putting up shots after dropping 37 points in a win. Dude is a gonna be a menace
Yeah dude is absolutely a steal for the Lakers at 17, exactly the kind of player they need too
💪 🔥
They needed a big
Nah we needed 3 and d fn
Even if he wins rookie of the year, And makes the all-star team the Lakers aren't coming out of the west so who cares how good he can be..
@@adamNDkipker yeah well it will stink when we beat ur team come next season
If the Lakers get Klay Thompson then just imagine this guy learning from Klay.
And what would they do with Klay Thompson they call me it makes no sense at all😅 Dalton connect is a better player he does everything Klay Thompson does one thing just shoot jumpers and it's not good at shooting mid-range shot he's only good at shooting 3-pointers think before you type
Klay is better than any shooter the Lakers had last season. He’s also a good defender, even if he’s body is not there, his head still is. He’s an upgrade over anyone at that position.
If he ends up being benched, it is because someone is playing better than him and that’s good too
Man is 23 and considered old. The world has flipped lol. This was the norm prior to the one and done reign. Dudes came in the league more polished and physically able to handle the league.
Even before that most guys came in at 21
yeah
Dalton Knecht and Rob Dillingham are the biggest steals of this year's draft by far. I'm fairly sure they will both play important roles on their teams.
Think Holmes is up there too. Fits the bench big spot the nuggets have been desperately lacking.
@@potatosalad3848and topic when he gets healthy
Zach edey in Memphis is heavily underrated
@@dexterheath4736put how can you be a steal at #9 if you weren’t mocked to go earlier ??
Bub carrington will be the best player in this draft! Book it
All the players who were superstars and 23 years old as rookies
Wilt Chamberlain 23
Larry Bird 23
Elgin Baylor 24
Dalton knecht 23
and the hundreds of others that went on to do nothing
And players who were 20 years old or younger LeBron, kobe, garnett, and Vince Carter. Listing a group of players cherry picked to fit your argument means nothing when we have players of all ages who get drafted and our successful
Devin carter
David Robinson 24
@@jamesmurray34Kobe, Garnet weren’t like that coming out of high. Lebron got by on his physical features and brute strength. Vince Carter was just an athletic dunker no disrespect.
His age is perfect for the Lakers, im glad teans passed up on him, he's the most pro ready. He'll help the Lakers go deep into the playoffs next season
Deep into the play in
@@liamnelson6573 its always haters, U watch they moves tho, cause u kno they will always have potential, they made key changes and still not done, they'll be right back in the mix, rather u like it or not lol.
@@ronaldwilliams9635stop it 😂
A lot of draft picks are being wasted on potential over production
As a lakers fan I’m ecstatic we drafted knecht. Had him as the 11th best player on my big board. Him being an older prospect was the reason he fell to us and that shouldn’t matter anymore. Knecht is an elite shooter off the catch and on the move. His skill set is something the lakers were missing and I expect him to be a key part of the rotation immediately and potentially could see him becoming a starter at some point this season.
I think if they a forced to keep dlo they are going to stagger dlo and reaves now that vanderbilt is back. Dlo as a 6 man scorer also allows better defensive matchups. Reaves knect vando lebron davis lineup is good offensively and defensively with dlo and rui off the bench. Imagine a reaves vando rui lebron davis line up we never got to try how long that would be. Max cristie could also be in that mix. All depend how ready dalton is.
Isnt it funny how he has more shooting, better poise, better game, better stats then almost every child ahead of him
he’s also older than them but yeah he’s good
@@userlamezzlmaooo no shit
Euro players are always more advanced than our AAU players
His shot trajectory is so pure.
This dude is JJ with athleticism
Thats actually one of the best comparisons I've seen for him. And now he gets to learn from him
Normalize drafting older rookies 🔥
He is the best offensive player in the draft
fr man
People dont get it. College players are playing against zones, and strong help side defensive teams. Certain players who
start playing in the NBA start seeing more room to play, their athletism increases and the ability to move freely allows them to
score more efficiently. Obviously its next level, but talented players who experience the league, start seeing huge upside in their
stock. Dalton is one of those types of players whos gonna improve alot. Hes like a more athletic version of Mike Miller
He's more of doug mcdermott, both 4 year players both put up similar stats, Dalton is more athletic. doug was a better shooter
Damn this guy is solid. Ready out of the box like a race gun. He looks lean, mean and psychotic.
He will be rookie of the year!
Too Many scorers on his team, but make the All-rookie award likely
LOL
Nah Bronny...j/k
Don’t compare him to other 3 point specialists, he’s got a much higher ceiling because of his wingspan and athleticism.
It makes a lot of sense to have a skilled, contributing player under a rookie contract.
Man he looks like a more athletic klay. Klay was just a little better shooter and better defender
Dalton can get to the rim better than 23yo klay
Thanks for all your hard work in putting this video together. Good job.
I feel like his spacing is going to unlock Austin Reeves which also unlocks Lebron. All we need is a big big and a back up point if we can swap Gabe or if Dinwiddie isn't an option.
You're forgetting Bronny. Lol. He will be the cancer from all the media attention
Basketball is a grown man's game. If you're a grown man entering the league then that's an advantage.
If he REALLY wants to have a long career, JJ is the perfect coach for him. Their styles are basically the same including the lack of defense. JJ can teach him how to cut, use picks, and scheme his way open for the shot as he did his entire career.
JJ cant coach
LOL
@@thefourfourfour9512 That clearly remains to be seen. But, there's nothing that indicates that he'd be a poor coach.
@@MicDubTV LOLOL
serioiusly? Have you seen his podcast .. THE FILM DOESNT LIE , yet he is clueless to it all
He looks like a Star. I wanted my kings to get em
I wanted my Kings to get Knecht at 13...but I wanted Devin Carter even more. The other guy I wanted was Kelel Ware.
;loved how you cover the good and bad
To be completely honest. And what nobody is talking about. This guy is actually better than the top 3 picks. Those guys from France are not as talented as this guy.
Cap
He maybe be better than the kid from the rockets but not the other guys. Those guys are actual 2way players . Dalton might be nice on offense, but defense will keep your mins limited.
So they should’ve drafted Tristen da Silva?
@@wills.9422agreed. But if Dalton was 19 he would go #1…a freshman w/ those numbers.
As a Purdue fan, when they played Tennessee, I was like "who the fuck is this Knecht guy?" Turns out he has a crazy interesting story. To say I'm impressed by his play is putting it mildly.
people want him to be a clone of ar-15, but he's way more athletic
AR is a streaky inconsistent 3 point shooter who turns the ball over way too much and is the worst defender on the entire team. We don't want a clone of him
😂😂u don't watch the games Reaves is him🔥@@user-tm2el6xh7e
He can be a more balanced player offensively and defensively in the nba as he doesn’t have the offensive burden as in college😏
Dope video!
Kobe Bryant wasn't a team player by no means
Dude is a prime Klay Thompson already.
This guy isn’t getting a ton of hype and how good he is going to be is still being understated. He literally couldn’t have gone to a better place. He is immediate offensive production and right where the lakers need it. I wouldn’t be one bit shocked if he is the second leading scorer on the lakers this time next year.
Solid video, good analysis, not bloated with extra bullshit.
You earned a like and sub.
He's a Doug McDermott clone, from the high vertical to the alarmingly low steals and blocks. It's uncanny.
People already hating wow it never stops the Lakers are going to do well this upcoming season 🏀
Very good pick. His physicality, plus shooting ability makes for some nice comps. Floor: Pat Connaughton Ceiling: Dale Ellis
Outstanding 😊
I love the (german) word "Knecht" XD Was a creative insult when i went to school 30 Jears ago..
also: (to) knechten = to enslave
Dalton is that dude
Ur damn right !! For me he's the most talented,NBA ready draft prospect, I expect him to stat ,and win ROTY , he's average in terms of defense! But a 3 level scorer
I was shocked the Lakers got him and that he was still available.
Knecht is this year's Cam Whitmore.
Not in terms of skill, but because of how low he was drafted.
He's not as bad defensively as everyone's making him seem. All the clips I've seen he competes, he hustles, he tries to use his height and length to his advantage, but he doesn't turn his hips extremely quick and his feet and aren't as fast as we'd like them to be, which puts him in position to play behind defenders and catch up to them more. But that doesn't make him a liability on defense. He recovers well and like I started this off by saying, he competes and hustles and sometimes that's all you can ask for against NBA level guards
As a tennessee fan, he is an elite scorer at every level. He will score at the rim, mid range , and close to curry range. He also plays well off the ball but needs some development on d
we got ar 15 and now we got a berretta shit gonna be fun
Alex you definitely watched some of those mind the game podcasts! Jj never stop talking about the baseline out of bounds plays
Great pick by lakers ,
Knockdown shooter moving off the ball ,catch and shoot , can drive also
This guy is going to make sure we beat the Nuggets. All we needed was a rookie that can shoot 3s and we are champs.
I hope they don't just relegate him to spotting up. He can attack the rim too.
Doesn’t have much of a choice playing with Bron.
@@zeroturn7091 Not true. Caruso developed as an effective slasher playing with Lebron. The problem was Darvin Ham, who had no offensive acumen. He's gone now, I expect JJ will utilize Dalton to his potential.
Having the summer training and summer league to try and mold Dalton into the best possibility team player is what JJ going to do good!
DK will shock most doubters and impress his usual supporters at how well he'll play along side of LeBron. To the doubters, your comments have been time stamped. 🤫
I really hope they keep Rui because seeing him and Knecht on the wings with their wingspans might be overpowered.
23 years old means he is more nba ready than the rest. If you draft 19 year olds many will get to contribute at the age of 21,22,23. Same thing.
OLDER ROOKIES USE TO BE THE NORM, 4YEARS OF COLLEGE, MAKES YOU A BETTER PLAYER
He got Gordon Hayward, Bogdanovic, and Klay mixed type game
Ok you got a new subscriber in me
I think hes going to be great. The extra spacing and teams not focusing on him will make him a massive threat on the lakers.
39% college 3pt shooter = 30% NBA 3pt shooter 😂
Their starting lineup is legit now. He should average 14-15 ppg
crazy kid is not even in his prime art 23 and the NBA terams didnt draft him because hes not young enough, smh
He'll be an excellent pro. Scores at all levels.
I've always hated people knocking picks due to age. So he's a 23 year old rookie...people are playing to 34-35 with ease now ..if he is successful...he will play at least a decade. You pick the best players regardless of age
1st off I like that he got most of his education completed.
i'm always a wait and see, but if he's as good as people say, it'll be a nice addition
no one drafts defensively to prevent another team getting someone
Thanks for making following a sport on the other side of earth bearable. Knecht(which is pronounced extremely different in german), was probably the perfect pick for the lakers at their spot.
good vid
If you draft a guy with skill that is willing to work hard and sacrifice there is no telling what they can become with state of the art facilities and world class trainers available day in and day out.
While I mostly agree, Laker fans can’t just expect to get a lot of value this year. Best case scenario, he’s the 6th or 7th best player on the team. And there’s very little track record of older rookies being playoff contributors in any major way. Be excited, but don’t hold high expectations then get angry about his performance if he ends up not being a difference maker.
Edit: Regarding only this upcoming season. He’ll probly become that kind of important player two or three years from now.
23 years old playing college ball is not fair.
Lakers work on his passing and court vision and he could be a monster!
Perfect fit and coach
Lakers are gonna be a fun team to watch
Let see what the Lakers will do to him...I am die hard Purple&Gold for since 1978 and I’d seen great players been drafted/trades happened and they end up getting let go...ITS TAKES 4-5 Years to built a championship Franchise..
Senior rookies are the most underrated asset in basketball.
MJ, Bird, Magic were all drafted as older rookies….those guys become stars faster
Bro played at Tn he a dawg trust... there's a certain edge u have to play with in memphis
Nice pick up as a spot shooter.
Pre-draft reports said it wasn't a very strong draft class. If that's true, then why did Knecht drop all the way to #17?
I'm optimistic on the Lakers future.
Nice video put together. You said the Lakers are in a win-now mode and don't have time to develop project players. What do you think Bronny is?????? C'mmon now!!!
If he was 19-20 he would have went top 5 no cap
Apparently, everyone has the steel the draft
The Lakers recruited a man, not a kid
Can’t believe my Sixers passed up this guy for a dude who does TikTok dances and paints his nails. Still got hope and see the potential with Jared but Dalton would’ve had more impact in the Embiid era and works with Maxey’s timeline. Better hope Jared works out or this will be another one of the Sixers’ many draft night mistakes.
He play like Luka mixed with kd
Let’s hope he makes it big under them Hollywood lights and LeGm playbook
If he was 19, he WOULDN'T be a good fit on the Laker's old team, with LBJ only having 2 or 3 years left. He's the perfect fit for the Lakers, being that he's an old rookie.😊
His stock DROPPING because he was older is backwards af! & shows why the NBA is becoming European DOMINATED!
I'm willing to bet Bronny get MORE playing time than Dalton.
Can someone tell me how tf this guy Knecht played FIVE years of college? He graduated in 2023 but still played 1 year at Tennessee. HOW?
I actually went to high school with this guy, our school wasn’t exactly the pinnacle of athletic talent lol. He played 2 years at a junior college, 2 years at UNC Colorado then 1 year at Tennessee
He’s like a 95 overall duncan robinson
Do we really think the lakers are anything more than a play-in team?
He is a good fit but he is not the missing piece.
If he was 17 he would have gone number 1
