    __________
    In this episode of RIFFS OF DOOM I'm playing through the entire rhythm section from Megalomania by Black Sabbath.
    Megalomania, from Sabbath’s Sabotage album, is one of my favorite songs of all time. For this demo I’m playing a stock 1965 Gibson SG special with P90 pickups, running into a Fuzzlord Effects Does It Doom Riff Master OC44, into the Bass Input of a 1969 Laney LBO-60 60 W Supergroup.
    The guitar is tuned to C# standard and the song is played in the key of F# minor. It utilizes the F# Natural Minor Scale {R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7} and the F# Phrygian Mode {R, M2, b3, p4, p5, b6, b7} along with some really cool major chords and chord progressions. The use of major chords is something that Tony did relatively often, and it’s something that I find still to this day to be very unique to the Sabbath sound and approach.
    All of what I’m playing I learned by referencing live footage of Tony playing the song during some of the instrumental segements over the last few reunion tours.

    Guys, I wanted to start a band; playing doom/stoner rock. Is there any easy song for starter ? Not necessarily Black Sabbath. A really easy level player here. 👀

      Great question! Thinking through the lessons here on the channel you might try Sleep-The Druid, Windhand-Orchard, Windhand-Woodbine, Electric Wizard-Satanic Rites of Drugula, or Saint Vitus-Dying Inside. Curious to hear what others think!

      I haven’t been playing guitar “religiously” for a long time (meaning I picked it up and stopped various times as a teenager) maybe 6-7 months and I can play War Pigs, Paranoid, The Wizard, Black Sabbath, NIB, Children of the Grave in their entirety almost (mainly with the exception of the solos). So there you go!

    Excellent choice. Sabotage is one of my all time favorites. I see a lot of requests for symptom of the universe & I would also suggest hole in the sky. We could always use more Yob. Burning the alter, adrift in the ocean, ablaze. I’ve also been in the mood for Cough since I heard they’re coming around soon. A year in suffering, haunter of the dark.

    How do you learn Songs on Guitar? Do you Copy off of Tabs? Do you listen to the Songs by Ear? What do you do about that?

    • @DoesItDoom
      @DoesItDoom  2 года назад

      I never reference TABS as most of what you’ll find on the internet in this genre are largely incorrect. Generally I start by finding as many good live performances of the band playing the songs as I can. I study the footage to determine basics like tuning, fretboard positions, chord shapes, etc. I then let my ears and eyes be my guide as I sort out the riffs. My ears are pretty good these days, but they didn’t start out that way. Learning and practicing scales helped train them to pickup on the correct intervals.

Sorry but it just didn't sound right here, and I don't know how to describe it in music lingo. Suffice to say the last A chord(?) in the main riff is not just "dom", but its "da-dom", like quick open strings then "A"? You know, man, I can understand wanting to make money off of stuff. I get it. But to go back and take down all the tab that you gave away for free, and now require a patreon membership to view it, is kind of messed up, in my opinion. It's your channel and you can do what you want with it, and I'm only one person. I realize my opinion means all of nothing, and I'll probably catch some shit for it. It is what it is.

      Transcriptions have never been available for anything on the channel in the past (although you can find many requests for them in the comments!). Everything that you find on Patreon is new and is work that has been completed over the past couple months, which amounts to the entire back catalog of lessons here on the channel and everything going forward. So basically nothing has changed other than giving people the option to join the program and gain access to a bunch of exclusive bonus content (including tabs for every lesson on the channel, pdf guides, exclusive videos, private groups, etc) if they’d like. Check it out, I think you’ll find the price point pretty fair.
