  • The military cab of a Stewart & Stevenson M1085 is spartan at best! They are loud, hot, and incredibly uncomfortable.
No air conditioning, no radio, no back up camera and no carpeting. Probably the worst feature however is the seats.
All of this will be fixed and in the end I will create a cab that you actually don't mind traveling in - even for longer days at the wheel.
In this episode I begin the ever important sound and heat insulation process using Dynamat, Dynapad & Hoodliner.
Follow along as I completely outfit and custom fabricate my home on wheels. In this video series I will detail all of the components and build steps that go into completing the ultimate overland expedition vehicle build.
Building The Ultimate Overland Expedition Vehicle - Project Baobab.

I did the underside of the doghouse on my 1083, and it helped alot. I also bought Killmat off Amazon and did two layers of that on the roof... no more steel drum. I might just shoot spray foam into the turret structure to deaden that up too. I have yet to do the back wall and the doors/sides...but just what I've done made a noticeable difference.
Then I installed the ECO hubs. That made the biggest difference. Less than half the interior noise when all those geared hubs go away, and that damn fan has not engaged since I installed them. Not even at 80mph down the hwy on an 80 degree day...

Any amount of soft surfaces seem to make a huge difference. I am seriously considering the eco hubs. Do you have 3.07 gears too?

No. OEM gearing here. I would under no circumstances install ECO hubs w/ 3.07 gears. I would be a gutless pig. My truck is slow from a standing start (2nd gear) Anything above about jogging speed and it's good. WAY better at backroad & hwy speeds.
And...it's easy to speed. Previously the truck was topped out at 55mph. Now it's loafing at that speed, and right in the sweetspot at about 65-70 @@drivetheglobe
