    I think it's important to say that a mono backing can be useful to avoid slippage.

      Absolutely! It will help to stop braid slipping on the spool even more so when it gets wet and then dries out. Thanks for the comment. 👍🏻🎣

    I’m thinking of switching to braid cause I am fishing a very snaggy well known uk water but having never used it as main line I’m slightly indecisive on taking the plunge as at £85 a spool I don’t wanna end up putting it in the bin after 2 weeks cause I don’t like it🤔 also great vid, subscribed👍🎣🎣

      Firstly, thanks for the sub and checking out the channel! Always nice to get feed back from other anglers enjoying the content.
      As for the Braid... It's not for everyone. A number of factors come into it, in my opinion. It has pro's and con's, but thats the same with a lot of gear in carp angling. Finding what works for you and using it for the right situation.
      Ultimately, if the water you are fishing allows the use of braid, then I would say go for it. If its attributes lend them selfs to the type of angling situation you need it for. Just keep in mind, there are a lot of mono alternatives that really do a mega job. It really comes down to personal preference, fish safety and ensuring its being used as intended.
      Let me know how you get on with it, if you do end up going for it. Best of luck out on the bank!

    Joel, I’ve been using braid (50Lb Powerpro) for around 5 years here in the US and on my weedy big fish France water.
    I find it much better, especially paired with a strong Fluoro shock leader via an Allbright knot, and leadcore or tubing above the lead.. I lose very few.......
    The fingerstall is good advice, I have many finger cuts to prove that.😳
    Do you see advantages with the PB stuff over Powerpro?

    • @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA
      @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA  4 года назад

      Timothy Marshall thanks for taking a listen Tim, a number of noticeable differences to power pro, it won’t fade, and although it’s not a big deal it will remain just as it was from day one. It’s fibers are in my opinion (comparing both) gator braid really stands up better. Power pro over time seems to get worn, with small amounts of fibers that get worn here and there.
      I’ve used the gator braid with a shock leader, with a number of different knots, but not for casting reasons, but for the amount of zebra mussels and snags I fish over. Gator braid paired up with PB’s Red Ant is a mega combo. It’s really solid braid and this far really enjoying using it.
      Yeah, if you are not using a finger stall while casting with braid.... 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ then one will for sure end up with some nasty slices.
      🎣👍🏻

      Joel Harber - Carp Angler Thanks, mate. I may give it a try when I next respool. Won’t be back in France this fall, sadly, because of this perishing virus, but I hope to target some big TN and NC fish in place of that...

      It is well worth a try! As I said in the video. It comes in a little pricy, but as I said, I can get 5 spools with 200m converted is roughly 220 yards and use some low cost mono for backing or 3 spools with even more braid on. But really not many waters that we are now casting over 200m unless baits/ rigs are getting boated out.
      Thats unfortunate regarding the your trip over. Next year I'm hoping to meet up with a few other team members from Sonik and PB over in the UK and France/ Italy. so fingers crossed things get back to normal.
      Best of luck out there, Tim.

    For me I like to use braid in all my fishing. With carp fishing I fish a lot with 3 rods on one spot. When doing so braid tells me everything that’s happening on the spot. I’m just trying to find a braid that is cost effective

    • @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA
      @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA  3 года назад

      You get what you pay for with this braid, as I mention in the video, while the cost is some what up there... you can spool up with a solid backing and then top fill with this braid. It’s goes along way . I’m already pumped to continue using it again once the lakes and rivers near me are not frozen. Thanks for checking out the video. Check back soon I have more content on the way. 👍🏻🎣

    a friend used it was gotta be honest for the cost i thought it was terrible. After 3 sessions it started to wash out and from the bank could see it going right out into the water. After 6 sessions it was almost white! the weave opens up also after a could of uses. All in all id avoid considering there are better alternatives out there at a cheaper price

      Thanks for your feed back. I have not had any issues with it as of yet, A full year of use, from tidal rivers to very large lakes here in the USA, with many fish caught. To this date, it has held up superb and worked as intended. I feel confident that it will cover me at least another season of constant use. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving your feedback. Best regards 👍🏻🎣

      This is because Gatorbraid is 100% dyneema. Most of the other brand do not offer this quality. Gatorbraid is garanteed 5years of fishing. After a few sessions it will sink a bit faster.
      Best line out there.

  • @marcck5597
    @marcck5597 3 года назад +2

    Yeah thats great, but does it sink. This is always over looked. My syndicate is a boating lake and its no good if i can fling it 140 yards if its not sub surface. Talk to me.

    • @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA
      @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA  3 года назад

      I have had no issues with it sinking. On the lakes and rivers here in the USA. But If it’s a boating lake and the boat traffic is more than the norm, maybe consider using a fluorocarbon or back leads to help keep things pinned down. Best of luck.

      @@JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA need too be putting a lead 120yrds in certain spots. Ive got 18lb mono on way others spools thats good to about 90 yrds. Ive got gardner kinetic braid in .26 and its not very good.

      @@marcck5597 on my current set up , Sonik gravity 12’ 3.5 rods and the Tournos reels I am comfortably hitting 27 wraps with the gator braid. I had been using it in conjunction with red ant (one of PB’s) leaders. and had zero issues at all with it. Lakes and river here in the USA have an awful lot of boat traffic and I have had zero issues with boats and the like picking up any of my lines.
      Best of luck out on the banks. 🎣👍🏻

    Does it sink yes or no ?

    • @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA
      @JoelHarber-CarpAnglingUSA  2 года назад

      Once it is wet / saturated it will. The initial cast, if the braid is dry it can / could float. My suggestion would be to make a few casts, getting it wet alternatively, splashing some water on to the spools before the cast can also aid in this.

    • @SwitchTTS

      It is slow sinking👌 lays on the bottem like a feather.
