And you can't really hear the power in the sound of it (unless a multicylinder one) Don't get all butthurt over this, it's my opinion I would like to know why you like four stroke more than two stroke
don't you really have any good arguments? The two stroke is superior to the four stroke. If you didn't know, the 2 stroke gives power each revolution of the piston, and 4 stroke only every second.
The two stroke was struggling to get traction but the little 250f surprised me a bit. Thought the 2 would have walked out quicker than it did. I’d think on a different surface the story would be quite a bit different. This goes without saying but rider makes more difference than any other variables. Good video✌🏻
Thank You for posting , most other channels do not give an honest apple to apple test. I have owned Both and just like the 2-stroke more than the 4-stroke. But the Sound of a 2 stroke with a good pipe brings tears to my eyes.
Michael Littlejohn, they sound like every chainsaw iv ever owned. I like 2 and 4 to be honest but now I ride a 4 just because I'm getting older and I like the low end grunt and torque of the 4 stroke. I like not having to be wide open to make usable low end power to putt up a hill or go through a mud hole. 2 strokes won't putt up a hill, or through a mud hole. It's either raising hell up it or its stalling out.
Great video but lots of ignorance in the comments, so I'll try to clarify. A 250 2 stroke has ports (holes) in the cylinder to somewhere around a third of the way up (depends on the powervalve opening). These ports only allow the engine to compress about 2/3 rds of the engines total volume, around 170 cc. The 2 stroke fires twice as often as the four stroke so 170 x 2 = 340 cc's. Therefore, a supercross 250 2t and a KTM 350 sxf are a good race.
I love you and your Bros content I'm waiting on my 98 KX250 to come out of the shop with a fixed transmission was having transmission issues watching you guys videos helps me get through LOL
Hope people know this is why 250 2 strokes aren't allowed to race 250 4 strokes at any big AMA race. They are more comparable to a 450 with it's piston size. 125cc 2 stroke is with the 250f class 250cc 2 stroke is with the 450 class It's in the AMA rule book & why you see stankdog racing a 125cc in the 250 class at supercross. It is in the FIM/AMA rul;e book so the 4-strokes will out power the 2-srokes so racers have to choose 4-strokes. That was the lock of the plan from the beginning, (and it took 8 years for the national starting lines to turn all 4-strokes). The 250 2-stroke and the 250 4-stroke both make 45-50hp. They should be racing each other.
Usually a 4-stroke will get a 2-stroke out of the hole until you hit 3rd gear. That's what happens when me and my son race a xr200 and a KX 200 2 stroke I get him every time out of the hole on that XR. maybe that 4-stroke needs a new tire!

The whole notion of "displacement advantage for 4-strokes" is bogus... Yeah they put 250 2-strokes against 450 4-strokes - which totally gives them an unfair advantage and ultimately put an end to 2-strokes. Ok - its true that 2-strokes make power on every stroke, but people forget that 4-strokes rev higher... a modern 4-stroke can rev to 14,000rpm (just check any good Sporting 600cc machine) vs ~11,000 RPM for the 2-strokers (go look at an RZ-350/RZ-500/RG-500 tachometer)... if you want to be fair, then put a lower rev limit on the 4-strokes... OK with that in mind the 4-strokes still should have a displacement advantage but not DOUBLE... they should get approx a 50% advantage... lets say a 300cc 2-stroke vs a 450 4-stroke would help level the playing field. Same is true in Moto-GP... the 1,000cc bikes crushed the 500cc 2-strokes for the same reasoning... and even a 50% advantage may not be enough with the current level of refinement of 4-strokes... maybe a +40% handicap or ?? I can only imagine how awesome 2-stroke technology would be if they were actively still being developed... 2-stroker for life!
I own and a 2 stroke so and have also owned a 4 stroke and going by what you’re implying they wouldn’t have gotten rid of the 500 class and would have used them against the 450’s in outdoors and supercross.
The KX250 Engine done right is a Weapon! I had one with White Brothers Racing Ported Cylinder, Boysen Carbon Reeds, FMF Exhaust, Splitfire sparkplug, Hot Rods Crankshaft, Weisco Shorty piston oversized, Bottom end balanced, Carb jetted, Run on Premium fuel with a Dash of Avgas in the tank it was a Farkinn Animal!!! I had blokes who rode CR500's love the bike! And yes the unmistakable Braaapppppphhhhhh through the bush awesome...
Its amazing how far the 4 strokes have come...from being extremely gutless in the 70s to close to the performance of the 2 stokes CC to CC. Im a old 2 stroke guy but the modern 4s aren't giving much up other than sound. The 450s are crazy powerful
Gotta love 2 strokes. Really though the 250 4s are made to be competitive with a 2 stroke 125 and the 2 stroke 250 is comparable to a the 450 4 strokes.
hello buddy, thank you for your videos it helps me a lot for my 250 kx, I wanted to know, can you help me for a piece that I can not find in France, I'm looking for a secondary gear of the 3em, the reference is 13260-1630 for my engine 250 kx 1998, you are my only hope, after I have more solutions. thanks to you
Dean W I rode both 2 and 4 strokes. 2 strokes are a lot of fun. But was always breaking. So I’m going back to 4 stroke. Mainly bc its reliable. What did u think of the crf250. I’m planning on getting one.
2strokeINTRUDER What I meant is that the 250's (2 stroke duh) speed is very similar to the 450 one. But the 250f's (4 stroke duh) speed is much slower than the 250 one since it's heavier. If you race the 250 2 stroke against the 450 4 stroke the results will be very close. (Higher chance of the 450 winning tho).
Actually you should compare a 250 to a 250 , the only reason a 450 is faster then a 250 is cause it's almost twice the motor . That's the reason they made 450s so they would have more power then a 250 t
Fair would be 250 vs 250 let the better engine win .Whats unfair is a 125 vs a twice as big 250 or a 250 to a almost twice as big 450 . So a 4 stroke needs to be twice as big to beat a 2 stroke ! So to me that's saying a 2 stroke is almost two times as superior as a 4 stroke !
You might as well say it's better to compare a big block to a badass small block. Why not a KXF 450 vs a KX 500?.. Smh. Pound for pound (cc for cc), 2-stroke for the win every time
A bunch more (years) more R&D on four stroke. But the power to weight hi reving motor than will smoke the four stroke all day in drag race. But four strokes better traction tractability. Still two equal riders on stock bikes my money is on the ring ding!!!
haha 2 strokes win, actually believe it or not reliability wise, a KTM 450sx and a KX 450f(I know the ones in the video are a kx 250 and kx 250f) the 450sx is actually more reliable! And who said KTM's are junk, I have a KTM 200xcw and I went 170 hours on a piston and rode the wheels off the thing! I am a 2 stroke dirtbike guy for life, I think its easier to rebuild the top end of a 2 stroke than a 4 stroke obviously:D Or even those Japanese MX 4 strokes bikes bike with those annoying titanium valves and all those annoying valve shims and those slipper pistons that are like 1" tall with the tiniest skirts!
Just so you know, the 200 piston will easily last beyond 250 hrs (if not raced on a track), and the crank has been known to last 1000+, with proper maintanace and quality oil of course.
harp chicken A 4 stroke would outdo a 2 stroke up hills power band would just spin four strokes have more grunt a lot like a diesel truck motor compared to a petroleum motor
@@reverseuniverse2559 hearing that it sounds like you haven't experienced a powerband if the tires have good traction the tires spin and tear up the hills
harp chicken we talking quads now no four stroke any day no overheating problems too can idle up a hill no revving the shit out of it and the motor will out do a 2stroke before a rebuild the list goes on and on
4 strokes have come a long way but they require constant maintenance and will usually have catastrophic valve train failure! Your better of with a 2 stroke. You’ll have to do a top end every so often with normal maintenance. Much cheaper!
@@theoriginalmungaman Nah u are right to be fair u got more on a 4 stroke bike plus u got your valves and so on so yes 4 stroke is more to it I've been learning on re builds the last few weeks
Honestly way to close for the two stroke to be considered more powerful, the 4 stroke is gonna outlive the 2 stroke 3 times over and clearly isn’t even that much slower so what’s the point in mixing gas and having more maintenance
It's a given that the T on short distance is king but the F will have long haul title. Both are excellent for tearing it up though. The U.S. Army went with the F model for the noise factor in our recon units. We had a world class training area behind the old division headquarters at ft.Bragg in the 82nd Airborne division.

2strokestuffing
I own and a 2 stroke so and have also owned a 4 stroke and going by what you’re implying they wouldn’t have gotten rid of the 500 class and would have used them against the 450’s in outdoors and supercross.
Amazing how quick that 4 stroke is but in smaller displacements it's not much of a contest
2 Stroke sound is amazing! 😋
Good video. The 2 stroke sounds dialed in. Very crisp. The 4 stroke- well, im a 2 stroke guy so I got nothing to say.
Where did you get the Monster Energy graphics for the four stroke from??
Its amazing how far the 4 strokes have come...from being extremely gutless in the 70s to close to the performance of the 2 stokes CC to CC. Im a old 2 stroke guy but the modern 4s aren't giving much up other than sound. The 450s are crazy powerful
Gotta love 2 strokes. Really though the 250 4s are made to be competitive with a 2 stroke 125 and the 2 stroke 250 is comparable to a the 450 4 strokes.
Then why would they call it a 250 and not a 125??
@@kennethhunt248 250 is the size of the engine.........
@@helplure the 250s cant compete with the 450s
how do you work that out.. been racing 2 strokes 500cc for years way back.. tell all the ex champions that

hello buddy, thank you for your videos it helps me a lot for my 250 kx, I wanted to know, can you help me for a piece that I can not find in France, I'm looking for a secondary gear of the 3em, the reference is 13260-1630 for my engine 250 kx 1998, you are my only hope, after I have more solutions.
thanks to you
went from a 2011 crf250 to a 2006 rm250 ill never go bk to 4 stroke :)
love the 2smoker bro i learnt my lesson with 4 strokes more money more problems aint worth it sticking to my 2 strokes lol
Dean W damn right u won’t I was on a 450 4 strike then switched to a 250 2 stroke way more fun
Dean W I rode both 2 and 4 strokes. 2 strokes are a lot of fun. But was always breaking. So I’m going back to 4 stroke. Mainly bc its reliable. What did u think of the crf250. I’m planning on getting one.
B 12 purely from anecdotal evidence, the crf250rs tend to drop valves...
@@B12-p4p CRFs are probably the least reliable 4 stroke for a while now dude. Always valve problems. They go hard though
Love the smell of 2-stroke in the morning.
A 250cc 4-stroke is made to run w/125cc-150cc 2-strokes.. not 250cc 2-strokes! Not a fair race tho the 250F held its own. 👍
Should not compare KX250 to KX250F. The engine of KX250 is like the 450 one. So be more fair.
mike gamer The kx250 is nothing like the 450f. Wtf
No a 125 2 stoke is to compete with the 250 four stroke, and the 250 2 stroke is to compete with the 450 four stroke
Sweet, very agile 2t. Ill sell my klx 650 to restore my kdx250. Missed the chainsaw sound.
I just got a 1978 kx 250 , 2 strokes are the best
2 strock is good bike

2 stroke 🔥🔥🔥🔥
So.. You accelerated straight and made 740 000 views and thousands of dollars?? Gonna get myself a couple of GoPros and get me some money!
KXF 250 is more fair to compete againts KX 125, because KX 250 is like KXF 450
You might as well say it's better to compare a big block to a badass small block. Why not a KXF 450 vs a KX 500?.. Smh. Pound for pound (cc for cc), 2-stroke for the win every time
years people, depending on the bikes year it could have an extra gear like the 2001 yz 125 had 6 gears the year later it was only 5
Love both bikes, slightly glad the 2 stroke won though
A bunch more (years) more R&D on four stroke. But the power to weight hi reving motor than will smoke the four stroke all day in drag race. But four strokes better traction tractability. Still two equal riders on stock bikes my money is on the ring ding!!!
Motor cross is going to be the 250, but against a 450f it won’t win. A kx 250f will beat a kx 250 in enduro or even desert racing for that matter.
haha 2 strokes win, actually believe it or not reliability wise, a KTM 450sx and a KX 450f(I know the ones in the video are a kx 250 and kx 250f) the 450sx is actually more reliable!
Good vid! Hey Ok now lets race up a steep hill climb....be interesting to see if the two-stroke can keep up?
The 2 stroke has twice as much power and 2 strokes are still better than 4 strokes on hill climbs due to powerband power
harp chicken A 4 stroke would outdo a 2 stroke up hills power band would just spin four strokes have more grunt a lot like a diesel truck motor compared to a petroleum motor
@@reverseuniverse2559 ok so with quads a raptor 700 4 stroke loses to a banshee 350 2t twin because of the powerband and its haul ass engine
4 stroke isn't that hard to maintain, i didnt have any valve failure in 120 m.h.)
4 strokes are easier to maintain than a 2 stroke pal they are more reliable but 2 strokes are better quicker by far
@@kieranmurphy7659 Not the new race four stroke’s!
@@theoriginalmungaman Nah u are right to be fair u got more on a 4 stroke bike plus u got your valves and so on so yes 4 stroke is more to it I've been learning on re builds the last few weeks
I love this video ❤
Thank you for sharing this video and showing off the bikes without talking for 10 mins of the video like the other posters.
Honestly way to close for the two stroke to be considered more powerful, the 4 stroke is gonna outlive the 2 stroke 3 times over and clearly isn’t even that much slower so what’s the point in mixing gas and having more maintenance
Moose Mechanic you forgot something, *cheaper* maintenance
They aren’t that cheaper, what valves?
@@moosemechanic4591 you can blow apart an entire 2 stroke engine and its 800 buck tops a 4 stoke is like 2k to fix
Chris Fallivene an engine rebuild kit is like 300 bucks...
Moose Mechanic for what a 4 stroke? 😂 I’m saying that worst case scenario cylinder crank, Berings piston. That’s about $800 for all oem
It's a given that the T on short distance is king but the F will have long haul title. Both are excellent for tearing it up though. The U.S. Army went with the F model for the noise factor in our recon units. We had a world class training area behind the old division headquarters at ft.Bragg in the 82nd Airborne division.
Never was a big fan of 2 strokes, I love the 4 stroke sound though🤤
4 stroke!!
