Great video! You’re such a quick, precise in your skating. Positioning looks impenetrable. Also, that blackened blocker is just awesome! 🧱🧱🧱🧱🍻🇨🇦

Can I be the first to say I love the markings on that blocker! You have taken a white blocker and almost turned it black. Awesome! I'm 45 so can't move that quick anymore. But as a short goalie I'm going to try to vary this a bit. I find as a shorter goalie, the longer I stay on my feet and hold my edges before going down the better. That and challenging out further makes all the difference

This is Jonathan Quick’s go to move. If you ever watch any of his goalie cams, he does this a lot

Great explanation. It’s tough also being under 6 feet the NHL guys make everything look so easy with their height

I am 5'5" and 40y. Since switching to this style I have never been hit some much in the head, lol. I always played the stand up, two pad side style. Cheers

Thanks for posting this, it never actually occurred to me to go post to feet before for plays moving wide below the goal line. What would normally happen is that I'd go post to post, and then get stuck because I'm an old and slow beer leaguer. Definitely trying this out once we can get back out there!

It seems like this would be vulnerable to a well-placed wraparound, so I suppose choosing to do this vs. just going post to post in the RVH depends on wraparound risk.

Great strategy. First thought I had was that you lose some short side high coverage, but you gain so much more far side coverage. I’m 6’2”, but I’ll definitely incorporate this (or at least try) on pass out / walk out plays.

1:52 you just push yourself from the post or just bring weight on the other side ??

Interesting. I can’t move like that, but I may have to try a variation of that.

I’m U14 and everyone, i mean EVERYONE who is a goalie here is 5’7 and up. It’s not easy being 5’4.

Love this technique. It goes to show you a goalie under six feet tall can be just as effective if not more effective then a taller goalie. As this coverage look in the NHL today is all crap. Some of the best goalies of all time are under six feet.
