Thank God I had an opportunity to see a full performance of Sam & Dave in my Dutch hometown of Waalwijk. They played with a very skilled group of musicians. Drums, bassguitar, Höhner pianette, guitar, and five horns. I talked to the saxophone player after the show, who told me they stopped in my town on the way to Frankfurt Germany. The marketing for the night must have been awfully bad, because only some ninety people came to the hall, called 'Lido", that could have housed a crowd up to two thousand people. I was on the first row, right in front of the stage and felt so lucky. This Sam & Dave show was the best live music performance I experienced in my whole life. Truly amazing and unforgettable. I'm still thankful, although it must have been almost 50 years ago, somewhere back in the seventies.
I’m so fortunate that l was born in 1956 and grew up in the sixties, to experience and appreciate the music from Motown in Detroit, Stax in Memphis, Atlantic Records out of New York City, the Philadelphia Sound and the British Invasion from across the ‘pond’.
Sam Moore is one of the very very few singers who can make me cry with happiness and joy! Just with the power of his voice and his obvious beautiful soul that shines out bright with every performance of his entire career. What a wonderful man with a wonderful God given talent that has chosen to share it with the world! Thank you Mr. Moore.
He spins a mighty yarn! In 1994, there was an all-star performance in Los Angeles for the Rhythm, Country, and Blues album. I had the pleasure of hearing Sam perform Rainy Night in Georgia. He walked on stage wearing gold shoes! What a legend!
They formed a world famous group cuz a few people at a dinner club thought they were trying to do martin and lewis act or something 😆 how crazy is that? Love these guys. 🍻
❤ RIP, Sam Moore. October 12, 1935 - January 10, 2025 ❤

Sam. And Dave. So good. Inventers of the hard soul sound.

Check out Sam singing Rainy Night in Georgia with Conway Twitty
"The Champ" at 18:02 he's referring to has to be Cassius Clay, sounds like 1964'ish, this is fascinating.

Memphis 1965. A psychedelic shack! 🥕
He took care of himself, unlike James Brown,,,sad
James was a great singer, but he obviously fought many inner demons his whole life, it is truly sad and tragic.
