Glad you are doing some of these older legends of music. What a smooth rich voice he had. I remember him from some of the film themes he sung, such as the James Bond theme "From Russia With Love", theme from "Born Free" & "On Days Like These" from "The Italian Job". He also had hits with "Portrait of My Love", "My Kind Of Girl", "Softly As I Leave You" & "Yesterday".
Matt was the British version of Frank Sinatra and was much admired by him and even sent a telegram when Matt was terminally ill in hospital..They called Matt “The man with the golden voice” and sang the tracks to many films..The bond film “”From Russia with love” is the most famous but my personal favourite was “On Days Like These” from The Italian Job…his real name was Terry Parsons and he used to be a bus driver and many people refer to him as the singing bus driver..probably the greatest voice to have come out of the UK.
The Connie Francis hit of this song is great, especially her live version. Don Black wrote this for Connie. He so much liked her live version of his composition of Born Free that he set out to write for her. I prefer her live version of For Mama rather than the charted recorded version. She never ceases to amaze. ruclips.net/video/5ZjN8Vekp3E/видео.html
Frank Sinatra said Matt was his favourite singer, and not hard to see why. Great post and appreciation for Matt, who never received the plaudits he so richly deserved!
Love Matt Monro’s voice. So many great songs.
His "From Russia with Love" for the James Bond movie is another nice one. Sometimes dubbed the British Frank Sinatra.
Yes! My favorite Bond movie.
Thank yous Shawn for loving the song! It’s a very captivating song !

Monro was a wonderful singer. Have always liked him and his fellow crooners.
@@FavoriteMovieDate Yeah, I could mix in a little Monro or Mathis with my King Crimson, Beatles and Neil Young.
Musts for Matt Monro: "Born Free", "From Russia, With Love", "Wednesday's Child"

The original in french, "La Mamma" by Charles Aznavour, reached the position #1 in France and in Quebec (Canada).
I miss my parents! This was beautiful. Appreciate the ones you love and love the people you don't even know! We are all in this world together!
❤
Mom had dementia at the end but.. The last thing Mom said to me was. "I love you." in that garbled voice. What else can one say.
I like Phil Collins version of MAMA. lol
