I love to watch Carpenters reaction videos, not only because I love the Carpenters, but because I get a kick out of the blissed out expressions on people's faces when they hear Karen's voice.
Wow, how have I forgotten this Carpenter's song? I had this kind of love for nearly 46 years until in a moment he left me and this world behind. A few years and millions of tears later, I realized as long as he was in my heart, he was with me. Thanks for this reaction, and for a few more healing tears, Shawn. Blessings all.
Other Carpenters songs to check out? One in the same lyrical vein as this, but interestingly multitracked as a Karen/Karen duet, is I Have You. Lovely under-the-radar album cut. Many of my favourites by Carpenters are from early in their career: Eve (my absolute favourite by them) Nowhere Man Someday Crescent Noon Another Song Those five are from 1968 through 1970...some later favourites: Goodbye To Love (1972, first power ballad) I Can Dream, Can't I If I Had You Make Believe It's Your First Time (solo album version) This Masquerade Now Richard tried carrying on solo after Karen passed. Two very nice tracks from his 1987 solo CD Time: Something In Your Eyes (lead vocal by Dusty Springfield) When Time Was All We Had (Richard here multitracks himself into an a cappella choir...)
I had never heard that outro before. Knowing it was added as a tribute to Karen makes me appreciate it, but doesn't really add anything to the song which was perfect as is.
Definitely one of their classics. I think too many people think of the Carpenters songs as dreary, but they actually had more songs that were uplifting than not.
YOU WANNA HEAR A GREAT GUITAR RIFF AND PLAYING SHAWN, ( GOODBYE TO LOVE )👍YOU COULD CALL IT A CARPENTERS ROCK BALLAD LITERALLY!😊PEOPLE FREAK A BIT AND THEY SAY CARPENTERS??? 😮IT'S GREAT!
Inspired by the title appearing in an old movie Richard saw on TV, Goodbye To Love was the first of the power ballad subgenre. They got hate mail at the time for "going hard rock"!
carpenters were magical artists richard's piano and productions and then karen's vocals which always seem so personal hit you in the feels...on live shows karen drummed till she was pushed out front then she shared drumming with cubby obrien
You said it. The meaningful lyrics, Richards arrangement and Karen's beautiful which make for another great Carpenter's song. Their song 'Touch Me When We're Dancing' is another great song to check out.
Paul Williams was a major songwriter in the 70s. He also sang and was a tv celebrity appearing on all the variety and talk shows. He also short in stature but tall in talent.
The piano coda at the end was added by Richard after Karen's passing. And yes that was him playing. Go back and listen to it again now that you know it was done after Karen's passing. It gives it a more emotional meaning. Richard really missed his sister as the world did also.
While I absolutely adore Karen's gorgeous voice, I every time I hear her, I can't help feeling so devastated that she struggled so much with anorexia and died far too young.
Karen Carpenter has such a wonderful voice. She passed away before she reached 33 years old. Just think on how this compares to Taylor Swift, who is only 34 years old. Bless you Karen, RIP.
The ending is an insert into the album which links this with “Close to You”. Next time - how about their only Oscar nominated song “Bless the Beasts and the Children”, preferably the soundtrack version here - ruclips.net/video/1lMNWGgswgU/видео.htmlsi=z0l4gIie3ZzBWd9N
Richard must have added that piano part; as it was never a part of the original song. I owned 'A Song For You' when I was very young, and knew of this song since that, and never heard of this ending before now. Very beautiful; like Karen herself.
Pls react to I Need To Be In Love. The little shrug Karen gives at the end of the song is heartbreaking, but the song, as always, is beautifully done. 💚🎶🎵
WHAT'S HAPPENINGGG DUDE!!!😊CHILLS ANF GOOSEBUMPS SHAWN, JUST LIKE WITH JONI, EVERYYYYTIME MY FRIEND!💯👍IF YOU GET THE ENDING PIANO, THAT'S RICHARD'S TRIBUTE TO SIS! RIP☹KAREN YOU HEAVENLYYYY DOLL!
@@Perfect_BlendI recall reading that KC could get too exuberant for the studio...she enjoyed drumming, in short, too much, and would get too carried away with it for the tight, understated sound Richard was after. Nevertheless there are some Carpenters tracks with Karen on drums and at least one with her on bass as well...

Do you remember their song "Where Do I go From Here" ? I'm sure you will be able to relate to it..
@@jokeane2480 Thank you. Love to you too.
@@larrywright6214 I'll check that out, thanks.

Boy, she really had that beautiful unique voice that you can’t forget if you were there back then. Every song was so good! 😪♥️🌹

Something In Your Eyes (lead vocal by Dusty Springfield)
When Time Was All We Had (Richard here multitracks himself into an a cappella choir...)
So glad you played this version. The outro on this was added after Karen's death, sometime in the 90s by Richard as a tribute to Karen.
Glad it was added....so beautiful. Do you know the song..."Sometime"? It's beautiful!
I had never heard that outro before. Knowing it was added as a tribute to Karen makes me appreciate it, but doesn't really add anything to the song which was perfect as is.
Everything Carpenters is just special to hear for memories to me...thanks again Shawn..👍🎤✌️

Love your reactions. Your sincere appreciation of great music and great voices always comes through.

A great Carpenters song that tends to get overlooked is “It’s Going to Take Some Time.” I hope you check that one out also.

Anther outside the box hit they had is "Sing", it's simple but you can make it last the whole night long...
You are so lucky, Shawn. Good for you. Great song too. All the Carpenters songs are great.
Try Only Yesterday, the Vevo version. It’s a video of them I think you’ll like. I didn’t know your military service. Thank you.

Also the sheriffs sidekick in Smokey and the Bandit, one of the voices in Bugsy Malone and many other movies.
So beautiful!!!!!❤

The piano outro is only on this album. It was meant to be a bridge between this song and the next song on the album.
That solo piano passage at the end, as you may have guessed, was added much later, after Karen's passing, and will indeed be Richard...
Arrangements and harmonies on their songs is top notch. Bass and drums really stellar on this one.
Goodbye To Love should definitely be next!!
While I absolutely adore Karen's gorgeous voice, I every time I hear her, I can't help feeling so devastated that she struggled so much with anorexia and died far too young.

Hurting each other is another good song

Yes, it's added. The unresolved ending suggest it's also a segue into another track on one of the commemorative Carpenters compilations...
@@stevetournay6103It segues into “Close to You” in their Singles 1969-81 compilation.
Please do more Karen!!! 50+ more beautiful songs to do!! Some of her non hits were the most beautiful!
Pure pure beautiful voice. Yes, the drumming was so cool, I liked that too even tho it wasn’t Karen 🙂
credit richard carpenter on that icing on the cake at the end on the piano !
make believe's it your first time, carpenters

That one was Karen's own favorite of all Carpenters recordings...
Wonderful song and reaction. Thanks.
For something quite different from them try giving an ear to "Goofus". Fun song.
So this one might be your favorite. We will have to wait for the next one and see. lol
As I have said before I Love your reactions! Thanks for your service to!

RUclips "Let me be the one" get the studio edit. Karen is taking, and wants More!
Think you mean "talking". Karen seemed to be much more into giving than taking...😉
😊😊😊😊😊
Karen was a good drummer, but not this good. That was Hal Blaine on drums on this track
So, that's why Buddy Rich told her she was one of his favorite drummers? LOL. She was an amazing drummer.
