I wasn't expecting an actual video with acting, costumes, sets, and stories. I thought it was just going to be a playlist of music set to old Lego catalogue images. This is WAY more creative than I thought it was going to be.

I know I'm super late, but I just finished watching this and I was NOT expecting this kind of trip.
I've been listening to your music since day one and every new album felt like a different adventure. You never stopped to impress... but I never imagined THIS! I was immediately sucked in into the story and visuals of this video and got totally lost in your universe... I cannot imagine the amount of time and effort put into the sound, art, models, scenes, story, acting, characters, costumes and the THE LIVE ACTION SEGMENTS??? It all wraps up to make this wonderful masterpiece... everything to the last detail is so cozy and nostalgic. truly a special experience. (Honestly I would love to see a detailed behind the scenes video)
And the segment at the end... CHEF'S KISS... such a deep and clever commentary on nostalgia and anxiety. I personally relate so much to the narrator.
Lowkey one of my favourite pieces of art EVER. Huge respect to you and the people who worked on it.
Thank you for bringing us to this nostalgic adventure, Majisto!!! 💜💛

the 80s-90s is deceptively a very, very difficult aesthetic to emulate perfectly. you did it at such a level that it feels like an indistinguishable product from that era and i genuinely did not figure it out until about halfway through. great job to you and the collaborating artists, excited to see what youve got in store.

This is so avant-garde. Sure, it has elements of nostalgia worship seen in other hauntology subgenres. But, MAN, this emotionally cuts thought to the heart of my personal millennial memories; deep fried in authentic anolog lofi. And for once, I'm grateful to hear a fresh optimistic philosophy for those obsessed with their childhoods, like I do.

@@dreamcastleTM Nostalgia has often been used for ill and for gain from others. It can trick us and deceive us and leave us in an opium like state. Yet, at the same time, nostalgia could be the very key to our self actualization as it can be used as a tool to craft and shape art in that pursuit to make sense of our past. Vaporwave artists for a long time have highlighted the vapid meaninglessness of our overly commercialized past decades. Artists today, I've noticed, are exploring that very same nostalgia through a hopeful and optimistic lens, one that is mindful of its contexts and exploitation. Nostalgia can either enslave us, or set us free, creating the very future we wanted to see when we were young. It can empower, inspire, and remind us that life is such a wonderful gift. What you have done with this album is make this clear. The art from the past (movies, books, themed toy sets) can influence the art of the future. That, I feel, is the emotional triumph of this album.

I first heard about this when it was covered on R. R. Slugger last summer and when I saw the full thing had been released, I tossed it on, expecting to get some solid background music. And then I sat there and watched the entire thing, start to finish. What a staggering work of medieval horror (the reframing of the yellow skies on many a Lego Castle box? Goosebumps!) and nostalgia, with something cogent and meaningful to say about the uses of nostalgia. The music, the animation, the live-action segments, the work to make it feel actually and truly vintage, the slippage between the realities; truly brilliant. This has dragged me deep into dungeon synth (thank you!) and I can't stop breathlessly pressing it on friends. I would love to learn about how this was made, to echo another commenter, but as is, this is truly incredible work. Much praise to the entire team!

Now that was awesome, a little different from your other albums since this has dialogue telling the story rather than being told in the timestamps like your "Enter the DreamCastle" album, but it's interesting. The crackly video quality makes me feel nostalgic for the 90s, the style reminds me of Vangelis when they made the music for movies like Blade Runner and that monologue at the end is so heartfelt I actually cried. I love it how you make these albums about old 90s Lego themes, and I'm going to keep watching to see what's coming next.

I have watched the whole thing, and I gotta say, I get why it took so long! Having made such a professional project while having a day job is no small feat! Narrative albums really are your strong suit, I really enjoyed the story you weaved through the album, as well as your signature "creepy shit happens midway through the album," as seen in Enter the Dreamcastle, this time with a tinge of traumatic moments from 80s kids fantasy flicks. The last track was also incredibly poignant, and hits close to home even to a zoomer like me, whose happy childhood memories lie mostly in the early 2000s. Overall, *we're making it out of AD&D Second Edition with this one!*

never been a composed writer or anything so here's a stream of consciousness if you care:
This is absolutely fantastic. I didn't even realize the lego sets were CG for a long ways in - it just looks that good. I know the VHS effect obscures it a bit, but its still wonderful. The story was interesting, and honestly I'm probably gonna be too dense to figure it out in whole, though I do assume the unknown letters is probably some font that needs transcribed and translated from the language I would guess it to be in :) . Tried but my transcribed letter attempts were not good enough it seems. Is it for the mythical seventh tape (that I assume is also sold out?)
Majisto and Ogwen are wonderful and I greatly enjoyed them both. I still can't get over how good the background looked for that scene, I assumed some was CG but not nearly as much as it seems. Even just the overviews of the playsets were just so well done, the lighting, the candle and torch effects, the camera work, it all felt like a classic commercial but better.
The attention to detail in all of these is just phenomenal, even the "media found" video looking realistic, but very clearly having the harry potter era door piece is just so cool.
I never really had any of the castle sets, but I always wanted some. I do remember some of the sword and helmet pieces etc, so I assume we had one or two small sets. Always wanted one of the ghosts, but never realized how many sets had them!
You really had to hit with the feels at the end though huh?
I don't know if I will ever be able to capture that wonder again playing with sets back when, but I hope to try. (you did a pretty incredible job doing it here)
I also spent a bit of time on your website. Its a bit overwhelming, but I do love it. Will have to spend more time later - been cleaning for a family visit the afternoons this week.
Would love to see a set of the room you used as Majisto's place.
This is the type of video I would expect to find with tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of views. I hope the algorithm keeps it flowing, you really deserve it.
I also see you have an album on bandcamp with what looks to be a Johnny Thunder picture... thats a real throwback for me, whether it be staring at the catalogues over and over or what sets I did have.
Anyway, thanks for reading my textwall (or not). Hope this takes off.

Looks and sounds amazing! Coming from a vintage Lego and vintage synth collector! I've been thinking about using an old vhs camera to film my mocs and add some ambient stuff over it.

This gave me chills and made me feel emotional. Really transported me back to the late 90's and early 2000's. Such a beautiful piece of art. I am trying so hard not to cry while watching this. Thank you and bless you everyone that worked on this. This is a masterpiece.

At the start of Bandit Ambush, I caught a very subtle Street Fighter III sample. Akuma has one of the best themes! Good choice! Great pitch work with the sample and perfectly timed with the drums!

haha, in this case it wasn't a sample, but it may very well have been the same synth instrument. I made a few deliberate choices to use some pretty famous patches.

Argh, this can't premier soon enough. I've been counting down the days. The trailer was incredible, so I can only imagine how awesome the final product will be. I think I'll try to host a watch party in the Summer of Slug server 🤔
