I remember watching this live. I remember people hating how it didn’t make sense. honestly, I think this show was just way ahead in the game. They really designed this show well.
I think people would still hate on this show if it were produced today haha. Still feels like such a fresh unique concept. Blue Devils from 2010-2014 just hit different
Interesting observation cause I believe 2013 was the first year they started making up the drill as they went along, instead of having a for book or something like that.
I don’t know what it is about BD drill and visuals, but they look unlike any other corps. I think organic would be the right word. It is hard to explain, but it flows so well and looks really crisp.
I think it’s because Jay always wrote on paper. He never used a computer to design drill to my knowledge. That definitely gave the final product a different feel as compared to other corps.
That’s because as far as I’m aware, BD is the only corps that doesn’t learn their show with drill. It’s kinda hard to explain, but instead of teaching the show using charts written ahead of time, I think they teach the show basically by telling the members what’s shapes or forms to make by certain counts. It’s pretty cool imo, it allows for a lot more organic and individualized moments that would be a lot harder to pull off by just learning dots on a paper
@@stevenmartin176 There are other corps that do this, I believe Pacific Crest does as well, but most groups whether it be high school, college, or other corps use dots.
one of the most brilliant shows ever imo
It's too derivative of constantly risking obsurdity
One of the best BD shows in terms of design. Absolutely brilliant and a shame it’s not talked about more.
This and 2010 for design :) My favorite playing from them is 96 or 97.
People usually only complain about it beating Crown 2012

You a stud for this
Been looking for this one! I believe their score was just passed by Tempus Blue and Everything Changes
Yup! It was also passed by The Cut-Outs last year
Never seen the high cam before but that drill is AMAZING especially at 1:00 now that’s the kinda drill I miss from bd 2:43 10:57 8:51 7:16
