He's truly giving what Joy Division/New Order fans always wanted. To hear these songs out live instead of hearing one or two songs live with New Order.
The more I listen to Joy Division the more I've come to realize that Hooky is the most important member of the band musically. His sound is what made Joy Division Joy Division and he continued and perfected his sound with New Order. Obviously they can't get Ian Curtis back from the dead to sing the songs but as long as Hooky is on stage playing those iconic bass lines I think it's the closest you will ever get to what a Joy Division concert would have been like. Hopefully one day they can all make up and reunite and tour again as Joy Division but for now this will be more than enough.
first thing you hear of love will tear us apart again, it's the bass, then you know peter is the reason you hear joy division and you stayed because of the voice of ian curtis, both of them were joy divisions, the other 2 were there to fill the space in my opinion... btw peter sounds like ian in shadowplay here... a little bit.

Rip Ian Curtis.. we all miss you and my hat goes off to Peter hook for this beautiful tribute.. this music has changed how I see the world and for that I am forever grateful
For those who loved studio albums authored by Joy Division, the sound in this performance is beautifully close to original. Truly delightful. Ian would be impressed with how well his band mate revived his memory. Thanks Hookie!
+Robert Kolodziejczyk holy words buddy, saw them last night live with this same line up...really intense, wonderful and peter voice..very close to Ian Curtis vocal...2 hours and half of pure entertainment and joy for my ears....pratically played everything from Joy Division and few New Order stuff too...
This year's Unknown Pleasures tour would have really made him proud. Saw them in Houston in September. They must have played for 4 hours. A few NO songs then 2 JD albums done perfectly.
I've just seen the replies here only 4 years (!) later. Yes agreed, he does a great job and the songs sound awesome. I agree with the opener above, his sound is what made Joy Division, I've always believed that. My favourite New Order album is Movement, probably because that sound was still somewhat intact, and he did the vocals on Doubts Even Here which is a beauty, although if you look hard enough his role of vocalist is disputed. Still a fab song with that Joy Division sound.
Bravo monsieur Hook, votre groupe et vous êtes exceptionnels. Je vous écoute depuis le début avec JD et NO et votre toucher de basse est unique. Merci.
This is so much better than the New Order rubbish I just listened to from last year on BBC...this has balls and still some soul of Joy Division. That New Order racket and bar room bass player just don't have it anymore. .. And I loved that band.
So true, I would far rather watch Peter Hook and The Light than the New Order tribute band. I also loved NO, but an integral part of their sound was Hooky's bass. Take that out of the equation and you no longer have New Order.
Hooky you're carrying the light, the spirit initiated with Ian and Joy Division. You've become a brillant singer ! All my Love from France ! (As the teenager we used to perform some jewels like Shadowplay, love will tear us Apart...in my grandmother's kitchen with a punk friend : memorable !)
So Peter Hook's career goes something like this: started a band to start a new band, which is pretty much the same band, to leave that band to start a new band that tributes the band he left before that band started being called a new band. Right?
Everything got screwed up for those guys when they were young men. Ian Curtis, great singer, no doubt, but if you ever read any books on him as I have, they were doomed from the beginning as Ian was a fatalist. There was no way any the other members could save him from himself and short of being put in a mental hospital where he could be safe from himself, there really was no way of knowing what was to happen. This put their next band, New Order, in jeopardy right away because in a large way they were "doomed", if you will, from the beginning of NO (except for Gillian -she wasn't in J D). As the guys wanted to do something totally different, as they said they would if anything were to happen to one of the members of JD. They had to carry around the memory and "ghost " of Ian. I think they should have all gone their separate ways and each of them would've been more successful, the way Peter is now.
Respect... Mr. Peter Hook, you, sir, have my utmost respect for doing this and keeping your Joy Division roots intact and Mr. Ian Curtis' legacy alive.
Yeah I agree, he sounds a lot like Ian, weirdly not here but I've heard other recordings of these guys and Peter sounds like how you imagine Ian would've if he lived to now
@MysteriousOklahoma he wrote all the Joy division's songs with Curtis, so maybe he wanted to continue to perform as bassist. All joy division's songs have a main theme/riff from bass. Hook didnt like the synth from New Order, in fact they were a new group and the bass is usually in background
Out of all the videos of live performances of Peter Hook and The Light on RUclips, this has got to be one of the best in terms of audio and sound quality - well done Glyndwr TV.
My lad is thirteen, autistic, plays bass, just got into joy division despite me playing it for years, fookinn loves hooky. Loves all the guys that formed joy division. Who doesnt here.?
Saw Peter Hook & The Light in San Francisco a couple of years ago. Powerful experience to hear these songs live and loud. It was perfect. Peter Hook is the keeping the legacy alive.. as opposed to the douche Bernard who keeps on destroying New Order songs live.. Thank you Hooky
When I listened to these tracks back in my School days, I could not have known that I was getting into possibly one of the most influential bands of all time. I think it is great that Hooky is giving so many people the opportunity to hear and feel now what I had the pleasure to listen to back then. Not sure why people are discussing Peter's voice critically, what made Joy Division was the raw cut and that is what you can hear here.
I must say, Hooky has found the voice that is needed to carry Joy Division material...but it didnt come easy, as some of the older gigs with him fronting the band "the light" had him struggling quite mightily. It is such an amazing thing, all of the indelible personalities that were involved with JD/NO, Factor Records, Hacienda, etc. Cheers!
How is no one in the audience losing their mind? That’s Peter bloody Hook. Must be friends and family. I can’t imagine a fan sitting that calmly. I sure wouldn’t be.
having been a fan of jd/no for over 35years, I love what hooky is doing. it saddens me to think him and the of the no longer playing together. they have been a large part of my life. at 57 years old I understand what he's talking about. my buds and I had our falling outs when we were young, but thank God we are all the best of friends to this day. we are brothers . peter to this day is still the best bassist going. when I wasn't as knowledgeable I thought that jd and no guitar leads were barney. no alot. we're hook. amazing bassist. one last thing. this riff between them. could it just be a joke by them ? everybody knows what tricksters they loved to be. Texas boy out
A BIG thank you to the students at wrekham university for the production on this..The picture and sound quality is amazing as is the various camera angles.Personally i'm a HUGE fan of Joy Division & New Order's music,so this has been a real treat..Best wishes to you all and continued success from sunny west cork, ireland ;-)

Joy Division and early New Order means so much for me...favorite since 1979 as a child through now....I just spent the night listening to Warsaw, Joy Division, Factus 8 and Movement by New Order, several early live New Order shows ... and this Peter Hook and The Light video.. such as emotional evening for me. I saw New Order around 85?? And again around 89-90? and Peter Hook and The Light a couple years ago...what an experience.
Great to hear Hooky doing the JD tracks, Ian Curtis truly was a brilliant writer, so sad it ended all too soon, his legacy will live on in endless art.
I will never go and see New Order again! Unless Peter Hook joins them!! Peter Hook and this band is the closest I ever got to hearing Joy Division live. IMMACULATE. I had the chance to see J D, and I blew it!!🤔 The biggest regret of my life.
I can't believe Peter Hook and band manage to make some of the songs even better than original! "Something Must Break" sounds particularly amazing. Peter Hook amazing singer too!
Best songs, great success, Peter and the unmistakable sound of his bass that does anyone remember what the music and now well represented with his voice after Ian Curtis. Bernad as voice is too weak to Joy and emotionless to Division ! Brazil in Radio, live transmission!
OMG so awesome. Whenever I hear Joy Division I want to keep making it louder and louder and louder.Something about these songs that conjure so much emotion. These songs are eternal. Amazing
I was lucky enough to win a radio contest in 1993 to fly out to Chicago to see New Order play at the World Theater. We had backstage passes and had a meet and greet with the band. thought this would be a pub type tribute but no love lost blending into shadowplay was excellent. The smile at end of shadowplay from Hookie to his son summed this up - wish I had paid more attention to getting to see this on tour.
He's truly giving what Joy Division/New Order fans always wanted. To hear these songs out live instead of hearing one or two songs live with New Order.
Hooky really does do a good job with Ian's vocals. The production here is top notch too. Bass sounds great.
Peter Hook is like the cool Rock Dad everyone wish they had.
Kyle S Totally Agreed!
Can we get Hooky and Dave Grohl in the same band?
We do have him luckily
Well said, mate!
Hes the further evolution of🖤 Joy Division /New Order🖤 we all fookin needed 🤘🤘🤘🤘

+Matthew Milko Aaaand Stephen Morris drumming adds a lot to JD's sound
+Matthew Milko I say if that happened, Bernard should be out as singer. Peter Hook seems to capture JD's vibe a bit more.
+Matthew Milko joy division are joy division. and real fan's would never type such wank.
the bass was always what defined JD to me
first thing you hear of love will tear us apart again, it's the bass, then you know peter is the reason you hear joy division and you stayed because of the voice of ian curtis, both of them were joy divisions, the other 2 were there to fill the space in my opinion... btw peter sounds like ian in shadowplay here... a little bit.

Hooky does a great job on vocals.
Great stuff. I totally understand why he does this, the songs are just terrific and need to be played live.
***** Yes. Finally someone who speaks the truth
***** Exactly, i'm not sure anyone else could've Covered Ian Curtis Vocals As well as Peter Hook either.
It has noting with vocals (I know Ian was special) but it has with legacy.
Keeper of THE Fire.....

KarzenX New Order went down hill fast without Hooky! Barney sold his sole!
So true, I would far rather watch Peter Hook and The Light than the New Order tribute band. I also loved NO, but an integral part of their sound was Hooky's bass. Take that out of the equation and you no longer have New Order.
@@steve261brown I always thought there was something fishy about Barney!
True
The beginning of Disorder is totally spot on...it´s spooky.
One of my favourite JD songs and as with all tracks Hooky performs here as close to JD as possible, will never be another Ian Curtis though! #GENIUS
it's like the band playing in your living room, incl a drum kit on the carpet. Amazing. Very touching at the end. Music for heart and soul.
Bloody fantastic... Saw JD many times, from their first gigs to their last, and this is the true spirit of a great band. Well done Hooky and the boys!

Respect... Mr. Peter Hook, you, sir, have my utmost respect for doing this and keeping your Joy Division roots intact and Mr. Ian Curtis' legacy alive.
Weird I prefer Ian's voice but with Peter's you can actually hear all the lyrics.
Ryk Downes Might become some kind of Paolo Conte singing the songs wriiten for others decades before, age is sometimes a strong help
This comments, old but you have to take into account Peter's age
What rly stuck out to me is how some of the lyrics that Hooky sings here, are different to the actual songs
Yeah I agree, he sounds a lot like Ian, weirdly not here but I've heard other recordings of these guys and Peter sounds like how you imagine Ian would've if he lived to now

Breathing life into an amazing back catalogue. Good on yer Hooky.
Timeless and to think Ian wrote all these songs around the age of 18 is amazing

Film students and other kids, not actual fans who knew the music, it's not really a PH gig, just a film exercise for the college.
Thank you Glyndwr TV for bringing this to me. A wonderful production, and just a whole bunch of my favourite tunes.
My biggest surprise here is Hooky's voice. Absolutely great!
Thank you for signing my book, and giving us just a glimpse of JD. I cried after the show.
Great this. Thanks to all who made it happen.
Wow, I love Hooky's interpretation of the JD songs!
Awesome. What a group Hook has assembled. His voice and articulation surprised me. It works. Bravo.

Man, it's very nice hearing Peter Hook come back to a complicated place of Joy Division ending and make peace with it. Much love to The Light!
That's the remaining soul of Joy Division right there.
Coolest bass player on earth, love Peter 4ever... Wearing short pants and Adidas shoes while on stage, yeah, not everyone could do this for sure !
Wow 2 basses. How refreshing! Nice
the other bassist is hooks son...youll notice that when plays intros he doesn't..

Go on hooky your a legend
Keyboard couldve been louder for Isolation, its quite important for the song i think

Great Set. Great Sound. 👍
Seen peter hook in Los Angeles great show ....
The whole band is amazing.
He's not dead, he's articulate, and playing solo's on a bass.
Hooky, you magnificent bastard!
brilliant!"just brilliant!
Good to see some little 'uns in the front row there, start their education in music off properly.
Yup, got to see these geezers one day live, I will just put my camera away for to see them live
