    The "Death of Gwen Stacy" was the moment comic readers called the end of the "Silver Age."
    The idea of the hero FAILING to save the innocent---especially his love interest---was pretty much unheard of in MARVEL.

    • @kaine8911
      @kaine8911 2 месяца назад +52

      The end of the Silver Age of comics was in June 1973. Comics scholar Arnold T. Blumberg said "The era of "innocence" was ended by "the 'snap' heard round the comic book world, the startling, sickening snap of bone that heralded the death of Gwen Stacy."

      Most underrated Spider-Man for sure - I think he was perfect Peter and cocky talking Spider-Man
      Holland plays a better “kid” Spider-Man like a young kid at school with powers
      But Garfield played that ‘young adult’ Spider-Man to perfection and we needed better scripts for him

    • @Umahn

      I agree, imo, he's the BEST Spiderman out of the three on screen. Garfields Spiderman to me was the closest to the actual comicbook version, or at least the McFarlane Spiderman, because when in costume, he looked lean, and slim, plus the way he would bend, move with so much flexibility just making it feel like the comicbook Spiderman from the McFarlane era onward.
      Again, I believe the biggest issue with Garfields Spiderman, is not that it wasn't done well, but that it was made far too quickly after the Tobey McGuire Spiderman trilogy. Had they'd of waited at least 8+ years, afterwards, then it would've been perfect.

    • @Umahn
      @Umahn 2 месяца назад +55

      Yep, one of the most powerful moments in the Spiderman universe with the death of Gwen Stacy, they portrayed it phenomenally in here. Honestly, this Spiderman series came just too quickly after the Tobey McGuire trilogy, and I believe that had they waited at least until 2010 (Barring Marvel was already going by then) then this would've been a far greater trilogy.
      This is because I've always, ALWAYS liked Andrew Garfields Peter Parker so much, however his Spiderman and the way he moved is still the BEST Spiderman out of the three, this is because he actually showed the flexibility that was made so famous with the McFarlane artworks, and moreover he had the lean, and long look while in the costume as well which made it to me the best on screen ever.

      @caitlinbauer7774 29 дней назад +20

      I really loved the inclusion of that part. We've learned from the movies that she's very, very intelligent. I'd like to think that that scene showed, even in what was a terrifying moment for her, she knew that he couldn't save her. Because even if his web caught her a little earlier, she would have broke her back or neck from the whiplash (which I'm told is what happened in the comics). But the reality is that he told her not to be there and she came anyway. I don't think she was fully capable of understanding how dangerous of a situation it was, but she prioritized helping Peter above her own safety. And ultimately, her own choice lead to her death. I'm SO glad in the Tom Holland SM that we get to see Andrew's SM save Mary Jane. You knew he played that scene with Gwen over and over and over in his head to try to determine the best way to save her. He was close enough to MJ to catch her after diving for her, but he wasn't close enough to do the same with Gwen.

    I said it on Ashleigh Burton's review itself, but she was complaining all the time "Why did they switch from Mary Jane to Gwen?" because the Raimi Spider-Man was her first exposure to Spider-Man proper, and that's possibly why her reaction was so... delayed... but Sam Raimi went with Mary Jane from the beginning because Gwen, at that time, was known for one thing by comic book fans of a certain age: dying. It's probably also why he subverted expectations by Gwen being introduced later and surviving his series... because Gwen would have been known to be a dead character walking if she'd been there from the start.
    Until this series, Gwen to many people was just a woman in the fridge, a greatest regret of Peter's that would haunt him any time anything could happen to Aunt May or Mary Jane. Emma Stone is probably the reason why people appreciate the character as she _was_ originally. I guarantee you that Spider-Gwen the comic does not exist if Emma Stone doesn't play Gwen Stacy and make everyone who forgot about her fall in love with her. (And when she shows up in Earth-616 under the alias "Ghost Spider" even she makes the comment that in 616, it feels like the only thing her counterpart is known for is dying.)

    I always forget what comic book stuff is common knowledge and what isn't. Seeing people watch stuff like this and The Winter Soldier and or basically ANYTHING having to do with Jason Todd... I see all this stuff coming because I grew up reading it, so I don't get these reactions and emotions to movies and such. It's really nice to see others going through it. It reminds me of when it was new to me.

    Why does everybody ask if she hit her head? You can clearly hear and see her back breaking as she is bent backwards.

      Honestly at first I didn't thought it was a crack of the head, but a sound of the spider web. So it's that or we were just in denial.

    I played catch-up on Toby and Andrew's movies after no way home because I hadn't seen them yet. I knew Gwen was going to die because it's embedded in pop culture at this point, but it still made me ball my eyes out! I didn't cry when either of their uncle Ben died so I didn't think I would cry when Gwen died. I was so wrong!!!! I think it's worse than uncle Ben! I can't decide if Gwen or Aunt May is worse, but they both made me sob!

    I guess the only good thing is she def died on impact so she probably didn’t even feel this, when I had my car accident I never even knew I hit my head close to my temple. So I temporarily for a few months after my accident lost my memory of the accident and how it happened but also hitting the back of my head slipping. Every time her head hit the ground that spot in the back of my head throbs 😅

    You can tell they never read the comics, old ones that is. In the comics, she was going to die regardless. She was thrown off a bridge by the Goblin and the first reaction from Peter was to stop her with his web, and the whiplash from a sudden stop killed her. In the comics, Romita Sr. was asked by the writers of the comic, that if it was ok if they kill Aunt May. Romita and Thomas decided that Gwen had to go in order to re-introduce MJ as Peter's love interest. He decided this, because MJ still had her edgy behavior and her character could be expanded while Gwen was just a nice person and was there to be a comical character.
