To reduce paper curling, cover one side with a preparation, dry, then coat the back side. Acrylic is a form of plastic. Heat should never be applied. Watch it break down, bubble, then harden when a piece of heavily coated cardboard is overheated in an oven just on a low setting. (Which should probably happen only by mistake b/c plastic gives off nasty vapors.) Heat destroys the polymer structure; it’s plastic. I thought you tried an excellent assortment of coatings, and just the right kinds of media. Alcohol is a solvent for acrylic; so It will dissolve to some degree an acrylic coating. I am really glad you contributed this testing. Thank you very much.
Maybe if you put a second layers, all your clear protectors would receive 4/4 except Daniel Smith which is a sand textured! But one which is working quite nice and cheaper to buy is ModPodge clear spray matte, which I am quite sure you would be very pleased with this one with two layers, the liquid one is working great with two layers too, by using the small white roll quality sponge (with no marked traces on paper) and this bottle is quite cheap to buy in comparaison of yours ones! Helpful video, thanks for making this. Just a note, there is a difference between gesso and matte medium, so the only gessos here are the ones called gesso.

I think personal preference depends on the way you apply the gesso. Someone suggested apply it with an old debit card itssmotther.
I have the inktense pencils and never use them because of the paper…..to find something that would enable be to use them would be lovely. I am not fond of prismas although most people just love them, I prefer my polys. Wish you had tried the polys on these sheets.

Lady from « The Art Spirit « did the Art Basic clear gesso. She has good results with the Polychromos and.....to my surprise the Prismas. The only thing she did different was she Applied 3 times the gesso and dried it each time with hair dryer. Thought you might be interested. Let me know.

The 3 pack is much more economical than the single pack; only a couple more bucks for the three.
I tried alcohol markers over the golden satin glazing liquid and it dried out my sharpie. So would you say not to use alcohol markers over any of these page preps?
I did not notice that. I would say use the smoothest gesso you can find as it wouldn’t damage your marker as much.

Seeing this quite an old video, I'm not sure but I probably used my Tombow blender marker as I usually use those for my watercolor pencils, etc.
Use an iron, do not set too high. Works great.

I am not exactly sure why anyone would use a liquid media in a coloring book unless they wanted to use a water base media. So not exactly sure why Prisma was tested, but to be fair I think it should be blended with Odorless Sprit Minerals to see if it gets rid of the white spots and if pills the paper. Also I wish you could have tested pastel pencils. Using a liquid media gives texture as well as absorption so I am wondering if it would help when using pastel pencils in books .
Ya this was done so long ago. I’m sure I would have done it differently now.
I think it's important to test pencils on it as well. I love using my neocolors for backgrounds and my pencils on top of the neocolors and for everything else. I use daniel smith's watercolor ground which gives a GREAT texture but I don't prefer it for my pencils so I usually have to avoid any spots I'm planning to color on top of. It's awesome to find something I can use on the entire page!

That was a very useful experiment and confirms my preference for Golden Satin Glazing Liquid. The texture of the Golden Satin is a plus, because it enables you to get a rich application of pigment onto the page. You noticed this with the smoother gessos. Blending is harder, too, with the smoother ones, because the surface is too slick and the pigments slide around like fingerpainting. The slow-drying quality of the Golden Satin gives you more time to get it nicely smoothed out on the page, but once it's dry, it does not react with water-based media at all to affect drying time.
Belle yes I was a little surprised by this experiment to tell you the truth. But now I know if I want to do this in a coloring book in the future. Unfortunately, I had originally bought all these looking for a good one to use with alcohol markers so I could color with them in two sided books.
@@LisasColoringCorner Yah, what a bummer it just does not work for alcohol markers. With practice, I'm getting really great results with water-based markers on gesso…but do I really want to gesso every single page of those nice two-sided books? I just can't decide yet.

Do they have water color paper at Walmarts? Maybe I could use my hair dryer....never use it on my hair anymore......I just purchased the Neocolor 2 and not too keen on using too much water. Some people iron their pages from the back only, low heat.
I know my Walmart has some watercolor paper, just not by their other paper. It’s usually in their crafting aisle. I’m not sure of the brands nor quality of it though. If you have a craft store near you like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, I would definitely try there first. Otherwise, there is always good ole amazon. That’s where I get everything. Lol.
@@LisasColoringCorner Walmart are selling Canson XL watercolor pad at 300gsm thick, it is a nice quality paper for water base medium but not fir alcohol! 😊

I like to use the Tombow colorless blender. For me, it’s much easier to stay in the lines than a water brush.

Did You print these with laser or inkjet printer?
No, I print everything on my laser printer.
I would of tried a blender on top of the prisma to see if it would of blended out a bit better.

The things we do for our coloring. 😂 I barely have time to color so do I also want to spend time to treat pages before coloring? 😝 Thanks for taking time to do this for us. I am adventuring into water mediums (Tombows, Inktense, Neo II, etc.) so this is timely for me.
Mousey Deb I agree. I definitely would not do this all the time, only if there was a specific page that I really wanted to use water based mediums on.
