Simply put, Andrew Toney had no flaws in his offensive game. He could post you up, explosive finisher, deadly mid range game, 3 point range, could play the 1 or 2, and shot 85% from the line
The one player that forced both the Lakers AND Celtics to overhaul their respective backcourts after that historic 1983 Sixers championship run. Lakers would flip All-Star PG Norm Nixon (whose shoulder Toney inadvertently dislocated in that '83 Finals, ouch) to the Clippers for the draft rights to 6'3" athletic SG Byron Scott, while the Celtics did not hesitate in getting rid of "part-time" big man Rick Robey along with draft picks to the Suns for 6'4" All-Star veteran guard and defensive ace Dennis Johnson. Toney was on his way to superstardom after that monumental season, but foot injuries and management forcing him to play through them ultimately cut his career shorter than he would've preferred. Pretty much signaled the beginning of the end for the Sixers in terms of remaining title contenders throughout that decade and beyond...
......... during a time out in 1983 vs the lakers down 2 with seconds left and the ball.... his hall of fame coach wanted to play 2 man ball with dr j and moses malone to send the game to overtime....drew said "eff that give me the ball" the 3 hall of famers looked at each other and all agreed..... toney proceeded to hit a 3 pt shot to win the game to cap a monster game sunday afternoon on national t v.... i have never meet a sixer fan who did not love andrew
Wish he the relationship between Toney and the 6ers could be repaired. Would love to see him around the team. HOFer in the making. I still cry thinking about a Barkley/ Toney/ Daugherty core
it wasnt his knees......it was stress reaction fractions in both feet....owner kept saying he was fine and would rush him back before his feet "healed"...the year he became the "boston strangler" he turned ml carr into a cheerleader.....turned chris ford into retirement...and turned dennis johnson into a celtic.........
He was Stephen Curry on steroids! That is the only way to compare his game to any current player. Only difference he had one of the quickest first steps ever in the league. So he could kill you inside and out, plus mid range . Crazy game. Plus even if you got physical with him it did not stop him and he would give it back.
No one could stop Andrew Toney. Only injuries stopped him.
Kenny the jet Smith brought me here
Anish Jose I swear

Andrew was our special weapon from 1981-85. If he never had foot problems i believe he would of been top 2 or 3 best guards in the NBA.
Thanks ¡¡
I remember watching this guy..as a huge Sixer fan. He used to kill Boston...he was a shooting machine
Hence his nickname, “The Boston Strangler”
@@aaronwalker1678 Yes...he saved his best games for them....

Danny Ainge said, "That was worse than facing M.Jordan ..."
Imagine how these guys would have played if they had the shoe options guys have today. It's gotta be the shoes! #truth
was an exceptional player.
thanks for the clarification
Yes, he was special.
if you have the opportunity, getting off some game against Boston or series of Play-offs for the years 1982-83, it is amazing how he plays.
if his knees held up people would still remember that he was one of the most unstoppable scorers in nba history
It wasn't his knees, it was his feet.
Andrew had a wired Jump shoot but it worked for him. To bad about his feet.
No wonder it is loved by fans of the Sixers ... Who does not like to have on your team?
was his feet not knees
