My only real problem with it is, well… the Title. When you put “Elden Ring” after a huge game and DLC it automatically raises expectations. If it’s a “best of” of ALL games, why add “Elden Ring” before it? It’s like they know it’s just an asset-flip and put “Elden Ring” just to oversell it. (Besides b/c of some “lore” explanation. This is a PvP channel. All the lore we need are in the Patch Notes 😂)
I mean, it having Elden Ring in the title is obvious. It's an Elden Ring spin off game. You know, a spin off game, that thing that hugely successful games used to do all the time. Chill out, and maybe wait until the game actually releases before judging it.
The blame of people having high expectations without proper reasons is on... the people. Elden Ring is an IP name, the same as Pokémon, you don't expect every pokemon game to be the same as the classic original game anymore. There is also no indication of this being a best of all, obviously there will be some kind of dimensional thing happening lore wise, but they also just said that that was an afterthought and the focus is on the gameplay. Lile... if people raises unreasonable expectations even though there is official information on the game, the problem is the people.
@@JonathanOrtegaLobothe fault is definitely on From. They have never (as far as I remember) put the name of an IP to a spin off, especially souls games. They haven’t even done spin offs in recent years. The safest way to make people understand is to put a title card after “Bandai Namco" and "Fromsoftware" that says something like "a brand new elden ring spin off" or something like that. If they don’t put stuff in the marketing of the game clarifying it’s nature, there will probably be a lot of disappointed people, since I have been seeing a lot of casual gamers think this is an Elden Ring 2. Also, I am extremely excited to play this From game but I am afraid people won’t like change and just want an 8th souls game instead of something actually new. There already have been popular streamers like Penguinz0 that are skeptical of the game and think it will be From’s first bad game because of his lack of understanding of the whole idea.
@@AlphaOmega-jh6ll Nah it is not on froms. The fact that they have never done something means that they will never do it? Yes, this is a step in a different direction, but why is that bad? is bad only on the eyes of people that expect just something in particular but why is that a thing? why can't artist do whatever they want to do? that is a very stupid way of thinking and that is on the narrowminded people. People can say that this game is not for them, that is fine, but saying that this will be a bad game in general just because is a step in a different direction is stupid af, specially when they are interviews explaining exactly what is the main objective of this game. Co Op games like this have a very specific target, it doesn't need to be game of the year, is just a different game for a certain type of target that may not be the usual one and that is completely fine, people should not raise their forks because their favorite company didn't make their favorite game again.
@@AlphaOmega-jh6ll I don’t think I know any spin offs that do what you just said, they pretty much always just show that through gameplay and interviews which is what this one did. I get your point but quite literally everywhere they tell you it’s a spinoff and not a real sequel. I bet you they give us an overview trailer that outright says that same as they did for Elden ring, but for the first trailer when it’s a while before it comes out and they quite literally tell u it won’t be a full fledged sequel and is a standalone spinoff, it’s not really their fault at that point. The hype surrounding the first few months and weeks before it releases matters more than the original announcement imo because that’s what will actually impact who buys it, so though it would be better had they said it in the trailer, it doesn’t really matter at this moment.
Ffs Elden Ring already took most of Ds3 movesets and reskinned former bosses like the Asylum Demon. Can noone see just how effin lazy Fromsoft has become? No of course not: "10/10 git gut hater but at the same time stop gatekeeping you looser elitists, GOAT GOTY, let Miyazaki cook!" Brainrœt is far too abundand.
another huge positive is that making it co-op focused can make future entries more interesting. Imo the fun in co-op in these games came from playing with friends, and not necesairly due to it being a well implemented mode. Stuff like the three headed wolf splitting into three and forcing the team to engage in 1v1 is what was missing. Interesting and creative choices that actually take into account multiple players instead of just adding more HP and damage to things. Its also heart breaking to hear that they ate going to use the same match making system. I would take the shittiest game imaginable as long as it meant that from finally moved on from their garbage match making and netcode.
A lot of what makes Fromsoft bosses so much easier in co-op is simply the fact that bosses have to divide their attention between multiple targets, having the encounters be more focused on co-op balance could create a really unique and engaging experience.
@@eldenlean5221 coop oriented boss design can be fun, but what about solo players? If half the bosses are focused around coop gameplay wouldn't it be frustrating for anybody else?
I 100% agree I had some fun playing co-op with my friend in Elden Ring but at the same time they could’ve done a lot more to make it fun. They didn’t even let us ride the horse.
One of the worst things about this game so far are the people vehemently denying the validity of any criticism or discomfort surrounding its announcement. “Let them cook,” “the games not even out yet, we don’t know what it’s going to be like,” “it’s good that they’re trying something new,” etc etc. My main issue with the game is that it has “Elden Ring” in the title, but it plays differently, is a different genre, and won’t be canon (possibly not even contextually relevant) to the base games narrative. I play these games for the exploration, tailored build-crafting, fashion, lore, world-building, and immersion. All of this is lost with Nightreign if what we’ve heard about the game so far is all true. This is a massive turnoff for me, and clearly for many other players who play the games for the same reasons. We are entirely justified in feeling uneasy, maybe even outright negative, about this game. If more info comes out, which makes this game seem more appealing to me, I will gladly change my stance. But I can only have a stance based on the info we already have. And I do not like what I’m hearing.
To add to this, what I really, truly wanted for the next release was either another Elden Ring DLC or a sequel, and the existence of this “spinoff” basically guarantees that we won’t be getting any more ER content. So my favorite IP’s got a new game coming out that I am almost certainly not going to like very much, and I get nothing else. That doesn’t feel good.
I enjoy these type of games but i also enjoy souls games for being souls games for the reasons you said. The only way i would be able to enjoy this game is by pretending that it isnt a souls game whoch i dont know how i feel about doing.
They can call it an Elden Ring Spinoff but its not. Itd be like them calling Sekiro “Dark Souls the Ninja Scroll” Completely different games. Im sure itll play fine tho. I just dont like it because of the principle. It shouldn’t be Elden Ring, it should be something else. Literally just make the name Night Reign and everything would be fine. Dont tell me its good and dont tell me its fine the way it is. Learn to have expectations. But casuals will eat up the slop after duping to max level like they always do.
The no 2 person grouping/improvements to matchmaking is odd. Kinda dumps on the hope that they are taking this opportunity to improve their netcode for main-line games.
Honestly, I will keep my expectations very low, Elden Ring made every damn casual into a "pro" this game can be cheesed like no other souls game, put on a ash of war, ghost, or any other bs to have the ez mode and call it a day. I bet they will make another easy mode title so the average Joe can feel like a ElDeN LoRd. Fromsoft losing more and more quality, and i am kind of tired to act like they doing some great work. Even the last DLC was the worst I have ever played, 70% empty space change my main. As long Fromsoft boys keep praising their masters, this game wont change into anything good.

Instead of this, they could've done a spin-off game that takes place during the Shattering War, where you play as a pre-defined character, with a pre-defined look and playstyle. With a bigger focus on story, a more linear/focused level design and more action style combat that doesn't steer away too much from the Souls-style gameplay. Or, they could've taken these 8 characters and made a unique, hand-crafted linear story for each of them. Like for example, if you play as the Ranger character, you play as them in a forest environment, with a unique story that's for that character specifically. And you'd get more lore about the forest, about hunting, about the wildlife etc. But no, they just had to chase the worst fucking trends in gaming. The fact that people are actually excited for this slop, is so disappointing.
Where Jee really hit the nail on the head is the point about game speed. We literally saw this play out with Sekiro. When FromSoft were creating a game where the protagonist was going to have infinite sprint and run really fast, they had to design a completely new combat system and change the pace of the boss fights to match the speed of the game. So I completely understand the concerns surrounding how the 'fast paced' nature of NightReign might turn out to be a huge negative. However, I am still optimistic because of the fact that the director for NightReign has a lot of experience.
22:54 I fully agree with that one, I personally have zero interest in fighting Nameless King or any of the returning bosses except maybe Margit because he is gonna get some boss dialogue.
Ill be real the core fanbase has beaten all these bosses before, because they have played all the games and they utterly ignored the other side with no PvP. This is like taking a shit and picking out the little bits of corn and eating them again just to get a little more out of it. Something (if your not braindead) you realize Elden Ring already did.
@@abrahamrangel2326it's funny how people throw shit when Activision or Bethesda use a few reused assets, but Fromsoft will proudly display their reused assets as a hype for their games
Good video overall, however, I think it might be possible that you're jumping the gun on how much or how little the core combat mechanics have changed. In the reveal we've already seen gameplay changes that I didn't see mentioned in any interview. Like how enemies don't have I-frame when launched by the bird guy's special which might also be lack of I-frames for launched enemies. Or the lack of I-frames during enemy grab attacks. I personally think this game will be primarily about experimenting gameplay under different conditions for future games.
Yeah Nightreign not being standalone but a ER spinoff, is to me, a worrying decision, bcos it just feels like they're milking the Elden Ring name despite FS reusing content from games even before ER, while a game like Nightreign as it is, also opens up the possibilities for micro-transactions a bit too well... At the same time, yeah the fact that they're disregarding any lore in ER, for not much on it's own, and also the nuance of the context for a lot of the bosses, like Nameless King being a big af example, is concerning. I mean like he was built up in DS1 as a disowned forgotten demigod to being a "secret" boss in DS3 which reveals the truth of what happened to him all those years as well Now you can possibly fight him and he's just kinda there 🤷♀️
It's gonna be co-op focused and they're still not gonna implement multiplayer well I just hope they import the new armors into base Elden Ring that game is severely lacking in terms of drip
also, i disagree with you on the map not being constructed for greater jumps and speed. The map was already designed around torrent, who moves faster and has a double jump. I don't see how removing the horse but keeping the movement change will matter for the same map. Your take on combat being way easier due to sprinting speed I 100% agree though, you can just space literally anything now at will with no draw backs. My hope is that the super speed is deactivated when you take damage/combat initiates, otherwise lmao
i think he is talking more about the non-open world areas. most of them disable torrent, but you retain your full movement in this game. being able to wallrun would completely ruin stormveil castle
@@aliasonarcotics i could be wrong but i don't think we're getting stormveil castle or stormveil castle-like areas in nightreign, i thought the entire game was just going to be overworld type stuff, like Siofra river.
@@TheMrTangamandapio we are. the pcgamer article mentioned ruins, outposts, forts, caves and gaols. i don't think there's any fort that allows you to use torrent, precisely because it would ruin the carefully-crafted level design
This game is to get all the gankers in one place ganking so they don’t have to worry about a bad red coming in and systematically erasing all the phantoms and hosts one by one.😂 imagine all reds doing red shit to each other, glorious!
whatever the points are, its insane the amount of fanboys that are blindlessly defending the game, criticism is not allowed in souls community they are like "the game is not even out and you are hating on it already!" when they are no different praising a game that is not even made yet
I appreciate the thoughtful reaction. The point about the sprinting speed buff is important. Not only that, but ER and DS3 were the only games really balanced around being able to sprint in any direction while locked on (DS2's locked-on sprint had so much startup lag it was mostly irrelevant). As you point out, the level of challenge is a key feature in the longevity of any roguelike. But there being easy seeds isn't a disqualifying factor; if anything it's a plus. Sometimes the first shop in Spelunky has a jetpack and a shotgun. Not often though. Sometimes in Slay the Spire you will boss relic swap into Pandora's Box infinite on floor 0. That's VERY rare, but it happens. The important thing is that you don't get easy seeds too often; challenging seeds should be the norm. The thing I've been thinking about that has me optimistic (or alternatively, huffing copium) is: I think this game COULD have a salutory effect on the health of Elden Ring's multiplayer, and DS3's, and all the other half-dead games too! Maybe you can see where I'm going with this. The key factor is the TIME LIMIT. As the kids in Fortnite say, "the fog is coming." My crackpot theory is that many players will, in trying this game, develop a new understanding of Souls PvE that will in turn allow them to engage in Souls PvP with more confidence. Just for instance, many players who are used to having an overleveled phantom play the game for them (while they observe, greatshield up, from the proverbial hotel room chair) will now find that the game is balanced around EVERYONE having to contribute. Solo players who are used to killing all the mobs from range before engaging a boss will have to learn to manage the aggro of multiple enemies. There is potential here for FromSoft to retrain many different types of players to really understand the design. And that includes the people who like to stand around and wait for invaders instead of playing the level. I really think some of them might amend their ways after this. Is this copium? Many won't of course. They'll camp the Prayer Room grace and say "heh! this ain't that game. me and my best buds know that weak, stubby little pencil sticks are STRONG when we're bundled together in here 😊" My last point is: I'm gonna call it Elden Ring: Night Train. Because I love the song "Night Train" (my favorite versions are the James Brown one and the Wynonie Harris one). It's been endlessly covered, and this game is kind of like a "cover" in some ways too.
Really insightful video, thanks for doing this Jee. I pretty agree with all your points. Whatever Miyazaki is working will hopefully bring the PvP aspects back with improvements. Neightrein might be fun with friends for the first run through but beyond that it’s really just appealing more to casuals of these games.

We do know old enemies have been rebalanced. The omen seen in the trailer has a new combo and a spanish interviewer said that bosses like margit had new aoe moves. Everything is faster, both us and the enemies. And there’s a story even if it’s not canon to ER, each of the 8 chatacters has its own storyline/quest and you can interact eith them as npcs in the roundtable hold (and there’s a codex with their backstories and lore on the world and enemies).
Apart from added aoe moves a lot of old bosses now summon adds or can split themselves in 3 parts (centipede demon for example can now separate in more bodies and has new animations).
@@Jeenine we see in the trailer a regular enemy (an omen) using a move that the ones in Elden Ring don't have though, so perhaps, while it would involve a lot of work to adapt literally every enemy, it is logically hard to believe that everything is going to be the exact same in terms of PvE, especially knowing From Software and their willingness to favor challenge and accomplishment. Just a matter of semantics really. If they gave new moves to the most recent enemies, why wouldn't they tune the stats and tune basic enemies? And if they do that, why wouldn't they rebalance bosses? We also don't know for how long this has been in development but it has easily been in the oven alongside SotE for a while. And well, it goes both ways, unrealistic to expect Fromsoft to let Sekiro mobility characters obliterate DS1 enemies and bosses who barely had tracking back then.
@@viss-kn4iu I don't think you understand the sheer amount of assets these games have. I doubt they would rebalance thousands of enemies and other NPCs. Boss rebalance seems doable but regular enemies? Not really.
I think a lot of your negatives are based off assumptions. You assume the bosses are not going to be able to keep up with the new speed even though we see that they’ve made changes to bosses to make them better for coop, maybe they did the same for speed, you assume the map is not made for no fall damage, when u haven’t even seen the map enough to say that, you assume that the game is going to be unbalanced based on character buffs and specials, when you have no idea if they changed the balancing of the bosses and player damage to account for 3 people. I’m not going to go off the opinion of a pc gamer journalist on Elden ring balance. They most likely haven’t played Elden ring enough to be able to tell any changes the developers to balance like a veteran player would.
@@andrelincon8238 I'll tell you one hard fact that ultimately confirms my thoughts. The bottom line is that these factors, speed, map, untuned enemies, stupid buffs/abilities make ER NightReign too easy. And when a game like this is not challenging, it has nothing. The fact is that PC gamers as well as IGN and other oulets there with them manage to beat the NightReign in their 6h on multiple runs and they even talk about how it wasnt all that difficult. And theyre really bad, if they can beat NightReign, than we're sure its going to be too easy for the rest of us.
@@Jeenine From a game design perspective, this is simply not true. No specific mechanic in a vacuum makes something "easy" or "hard": the difficulty is a combination of all of the pieces of the game design working together *in context.* A faster move speed can easily make something more difficult if precise positioning is required - for example. Additionally, that faster move speed looks an *awful lot* like the Sekiro dash move speed... and that game is probably one of their most difficult games to date. I've also seen zero indication from gameplay or interviews that enemies are "untuned" - why would we assume that? If they've already made adjustments to how the players control and function, why would we assume they haven't also done the same for enemies, the terrain, and everything else in the context of the game they want to make? In fact, if anything, we've already seen loads of evidence to the contrary: that they'll be making many changes to boss encounter design to better fit the goals and playstyle of this new genre. Why would we assume they would stop there? Now, I'm not saying things *will* be one way or another, simply that: we don't have the full context of the game design decisions made to make strong statements about something as nuanced as difficulty and challenge. It feels like a lot of people are making a lot of assumptions and leaps in logic, and then deriving opinions from those and staging them as truths. I fully understand people's *concerns,* and I think it's important to talk about those, but the honest truth is, we simply don't know enough about the specific implementation details to make hard-line statements with such conviction.
@@Jeenine PC gamer did note that they were given a diet version of the full game, which most certainly lowered the difficulty for them. Take the difficulty with a heavy grain of salt.

For the running speed I think they can somewhat adjust it with properly setting the acceleration and nerfing turn speed while running fast similarly to how the horse works in the base game. It they were to let people zig-zag across the map at max speed that would be broken.
Very informative video Jee 😊 I think ultimately, theres probably more questions than answers at this point, and for me personally ill have to see how it is after it releases and then make my decision after people have actually played it and given their firsthand experiences.
This is a pretty fair assessment. I was not expecting it to be so. I had some disagreements, but thats fine. This is one of your better videos in my opinion. Thanks for the content.
Creating a brand new IP with new enemies, levels, and art style would have made this a lot more palatable for me, even though I'm not really into rougue likes.
This is the one fromsoft game that, imo, would benifit from a difficulty slider/setting maybe its paifully easy for the super casuals to enjoy then have like hard and then nightmare/hell/legendary difficulty that is actually challenging
Honestly, most of the stuff that you put in the negative really depends on how the game actually feels. I guess we'll see in february if it's good or not
Negatives such as increase sprint speed, untuned enemies and unpurposefully designed map all contribute to one key problem, the game being too easy. While we dont know yet the extent of the impact of each of these aspects we know for sure 100% that the current build of Nightreign is too easy.. Because if PC gamers, IGN and other outlets were able to beat the Nightreign rounds with ease, then its going to be way too easy for most of us.
@Jeenine I think that normally viewing the game from a sole veteran perspective can be detrimental, but in this case I do share your point from viewing that way, since this is a title clearly aimed for the established fans of the franchise. Giving my narrative, I think that it's really too soon to judge the final product. Personally, I see the CNT of February as a MHWilds beta situation, where developers will take on the important data from the fans to balance out the game experience. Tnx for replying btw.
A kind of high up guy who worked on Elden Ring went up to Miyazaki and said he wanted to make this kind of game and Miyazaki gave him the green light. This isn’t a Miyazaki game and is completely unrelated to his souls vision. I get that people are upset they got duped into thinking there would be more Elden Ring content, but I have no clue how there could be any actual negatives here. It’s just a spin off roguelike.
I think that, for what the game is going to be, that it's gonna be fun. Is it sad that Elden Ring's PVP is in the state that its in, and that the next FromSoft Souls game won't have PVP? Yes, but at the same time, a Monster Hunter Style Souls game pulling in bosses from across not just Elden Ring, but also Dark Souls and possibly even Bloodborne sounds bloody amazing, and I think that within the scope of that specific frame, FromSoft is going to make a damn good game. If that's not your cup of tea, I'm sorry to hear that, but I personally enjoy co-op as much as PVP, and I think that Nightreign is gonna be Gwyndamned Awesome to play.
the game might be light in story, but Vaati mentioned there's a new section in Roundtable hold that's called "the codex", which probably holds new lore
Nightreign just screams fanfiction, and lore-gurus like Vaati never had any integrity to begin with, much less the new generation that hopped on with Elden Ring.
Hot take: combat itself wont be the focus of the game I think the game will be built around finding creative paths in limited timeframe and traversal in general. Elden ring provided a lot of different ways to reach objectives on the map (look at speedruners and specific challenge runners like skumnut) and this game is gonna double down on that which is why map needs to stay static and fall damage was removed and speed increased. Think of it this way - in issac combat is kinda mid (you usually just burst enemies with damage) but the fun of the game comes from finding different routes depending on what you get and game is a banger
my biggest concern is not lack of legacy dungeons because I think routing in open world of elden ring is fun but reuses and chaotic ganks. Both pvp and pve are really good 1v1 but completely turn into mash when its a gank and all the worst stuff like L2 spam and magic floats to the surface
They literally said that the focus is the gameplay... This is exactly what I mentioned in another comment, people making unreasonable assumptions and expectations even though there is actual official information lol
I guess I’ll play it but man I’m just a humble invader at heart you know?that’s my only opinion on it besides the speed issue. I hope we see deracine characters or member berries,i just think it would be kinda funny

That's not how it works. The characters are fixed. You don't build your character by leveling stats the way you like. Your leveling path is predetermined. lYu will start each run at the base level (I guess level 1) of your chosen character and the level cap for a run is Level 15. You don't level an individual stat but each level up, will increase multiple stats simultaneously according to the destined path. Weapons gathered in a run do not carry over to the next run. Beat the runs final boss and you will be rewarded some sort of relic(s) (don't remember the exact name rn), which you will keep and can attach to your character. Those will grant you boosts/abilities for your next runs. Examples were a relic that also heals teammates when you use a flask or a boost to guarding and things like that. You will also get rewarded a currency named Murk with which you can buy skins, gestures and things like that.
okay so, 23:15 I do disagree with the point about bastardization, but it's for a very specific reason. I am a fucking freak for castlevania, castlevania, before it's dormancy had used the same skeleton sprite for like, 12 years. but also they had a game that released for xbox arcade, it was called "CastleVania: Harmony of Despair" NightReign is FromSoftware's "Harmony of Despair" I can kinda get behind what would be called bastardization in this case, this is from how I see it, 1 to 1 a Harmony of Despair. Now, will it be for everyone? probably not, but I fuck w/ it.
14:20 I'm hopefull about Nightreign giving us some lore revelations. Currently Elden Ring is full of unsolved lore mysteries that we simply don't have the key to uncover. I'm also intersted in the backstories of the playable characters, that's the one positive about preset characters over player generated ones, they can have an actual backstory beyond a very generic one that player made characters have.
We literally don't know who ordered the night of the black knives, why does Ranni and Melina have a sealed eye, who is Melina exactly, who is the Gloam-Eyed Queen and so on. Some weapon discriptions could answer these questions without the need for a full sequel game.
@@fsjof Even if the story isn't technically canon it can reveal actual lore details, same with the Elden Ring: Road to the Erdtree manga which (so far) disappointingly didn't reveal anything.
I've played other co-op only soulslike games, like Ni-oh, and those are pretty decent soulslike co-op games. Based on what I've read, this Elden Ring spinoff will be mediocre at best. Until more info comes out (which knowing FromSoft, they love to keep their mouths shut), I am not feeling too optimistic about this game.
Reused assets is the elden souls borne shadows die twice ring® bread and butter. They have a huge catalog if insanely well done models and animations that they use for every game. If they didnt do that, and instead made relied entirely on new models and animations the games would be comically short, out every 10 years, or pathetically bad. Its literally froms greatest strenght tbh. Name any boss/enemy/whatever and you can see part of its dna in another, earlier game. In a game that relies on repetition like night reign, the more stuff there is to fight the better. That means reused assets.
It's positive for this game genre you will have enemy diversity without much resources used in this side project Also late in the video he said it's also a negative because if you played the older games than there's not much here to do
@@eldenlean5221 I’m not really sure it’s FromSoft’s bread and butter. Really, the only time they’ve heavily reused assets was Elden Ring, and everyone gave them a pass for that since it was their first open world game. Besides that, every game they’ve done has been at least 90% original, including enemies and attack animations.
With Sekiro they proved they can indeed come up with new assets and plot ideas without heavily relying on recycled stuff. This means they do not intend to, because it would take too much effort and money to come up with new things when you know for a fact that 90% of your community will blindly swallow everything you pour into their mouths, so mass recycling turns into big fat profit at the expenses of variety and innovation. And no, making the game a rogue-like Fortnite Souls crossbreed while literally everything inside of it is reused is not innovation, and the fact it's an alternative universe means they don't have to worry about lore implications at all is straight up lazy and uninspired.
I think a co op focused souls game almost guarantees a PvP focused one in the future now that we know from soft is now very open to doing all kinds of things. Hell maybe they’ll hire you for your guidance and balance tested, like lotf kinda did
I feel like its easy to say that this is just a cashgrab asset flip, but most people dont seem to be open to the idea that games like these are very important for fromsoftware to grow as a team. Elden ring reused many assets in order to be this big and yet it does enough of its own to justify its IP, reusing assets is more of how issue rather than if. If Nightreign with its already smaller budget chooses to focus its efforts into its systems, rather than new enemies and areas then we should first wait for the systems and judge them based of how good they are, and if they justify the lack of effort in other parts. They could even play around with the idea of making a pvp focused experience, I know that a lot of you think that they simply dont care about it but if that was the case they would have stopped integrating it, its much more likely that much like all the other parts of these games the pvp will get some much needed attention and it could very well be one of these smaller scale projects. People are way to quick to judge a product they havent played, as if its already this tragedy and has ruined fromsoft omg, just chill and see if you like it first.
Reading this and others people's comments sections, I find really insane how fromsoft fans have become accustomed, or even welcoming, of recycled assets. Seriously, when COD and Assassin's Creed yearly shit out low quality titles, everyone calls them out, but when fromsoft does literally the same thing, the fanbase claps enthusiastically. How did we reach this point?
All game companies reuse assets in order to save money. As long as they do something different with it, people generally fine it acceptable. This game is already vastly different from the standard Souls formula, so most are willing to look past the asset reuse.
@@cordyceps182 Man how is this vastly different when you literally have the exact same enemies you already fought in previous titles? And not even reskinned models, no, literally the same. Nameless King just casually taking a stroll in a grassy field along with Centipede Demon and Freja, with these two being actually artificial beings crafted by someone else through magical means. None of this is new, and the twist to the basic game formula doesn't hold up on its own against the myriad of already seen stuff you come across.
@@cordyceps182 I think that what they're doing with Nightreign is excessive even for industry standards, and that's even before considering that Elden Ring had a LOT of recycled assets from previous games. And also, keeping in mind that ER sold like 20 millions copies, you would think that they could invest part of that money in order to add new assets to another ER game.
@@TheMrTangamandapio Oh pardon me, so you're saying seeing the Nameless King swing his spear in a slightly different motion or throw a lightning bolt with a weird trajectory is supposed to feel like an entirely new experience? If it does to you, suit yourself. But don't treat it like it's supposed to be this way, because it clearly isn't. The exact same enemy with one or two new moves doesn't count as a different entity.
There are no negatives we are getting something new something more and something fresh and it's in a genre that we love nitpicking only so's doubt where there is none you know nothing till the game comes out neither do I but it looks good

Now I can just say “what jee said” when somebody asks me my thoughts on nightreign
Real and true

I think it’s going to be great for what it is. It’s not Elden ring 2 it’s basically a mod that’s going to allow console to play randomized levels
Total War: The Shattering
I am really positive about nightreign... after learning that it's a small scale project and that miyazaki might still be working on a AC6 DLC
Something (if your not braindead) you realize Elden Ring already did.
fr, "reaused assets" the game franchise
That's a pretty good point that I haven't considered
Yeah Nightreign not being standalone but a ER spinoff, is to me, a worrying decision, bcos it just feels like they're milking the Elden Ring name despite FS reusing content from games even before ER, while a game like Nightreign as it is, also opens up the possibilities for micro-transactions a bit too well...
At the same time, yeah the fact that they're disregarding any lore in ER, for not much on it's own, and also the nuance of the context for a lot of the bosses, like Nameless King being a big af example, is concerning.
I mean like he was built up in DS1 as a disowned forgotten demigod to being a "secret" boss in DS3 which reveals the truth of what happened to him all those years as well
Now you can possibly fight him and he's just kinda there 🤷♀️
It's gonna be co-op focused and they're still not gonna implement multiplayer well
I just hope they import the new armors into base Elden Ring that game is severely lacking in terms of drip
also, i disagree with you on the map not being constructed for greater jumps and speed.
@@aliasonarcotics i could be wrong but i don't think we're getting stormveil castle or stormveil castle-like areas in nightreign, i thought the entire game was just going to be overworld type stuff, like Siofra river.

they are like "the game is not even out and you are hating on it already!" when they are no different praising a game that is not even made yet
You should never have to pay for a battle royal enough said
I appreciate the thoughtful reaction.
They'll camp the Prayer Room grace and say "heh! this ain't that game. me and my best buds know that weak, stubby little pencil sticks are STRONG when we're bundled together in here 😊"
My last point is: I'm gonna call it Elden Ring: Night Train.
Something that worries me is the 15 minutes time limit per night I feel like that's not enough to explore the way I usually do

Apart from added aoe moves a lot of old bosses now summon adds or can split themselves in 3 parts (centipede demon for example can now separate in more bodies and has new animations).
hey bud, would you mind giving me the source of that so I can check it out? I am somewhat intrigued about the topic.
@@galvusgalvoid1510 its simply unrealistic to expect every enemy and bosses to be adapted
Not really.
Attaching this to the Elden Ring brand is certainly a decision.

I want them to use this as a test bed for a new matchmaking system
Monetization in From games is inevitable, at some point it will happen

Will you make a video sharing your thoughts on the game after the network test?
Hot take: combat itself wont be the focus of the game
I think the game will be built around finding creative paths in limited timeframe and traversal in general.
@@Виктор-ч7х1щ Well, there won't be ANY pvp in this game. So you don't have to worry about that.
They literally said that the focus is the gameplay...
This is exactly what I mentioned in another comment, people making unreasonable assumptions and expectations even though there is actual official information lol
@@SiphonRayzar yeah but getting ganked by bosses also sucks
@@JonathanOrtegaLobo yeah and I think gameplay will be based on routing and movement
I guess I’ll play it but man I’m just a humble invader at heart you know?that’s my only opinion on it besides the speed issue.
I hope we see deracine characters or member berries,i just think it would be kinda funny
No pvp - I’m out chief
you clear Legacy dungeons, automatically you with Monster Hunter-like boss fights.
TBH no pvp means I am not touching it ER was already pretty bad in terms of pvp experience so eh... whateves. Hopefully this is not a sign of Elden or Dark slop becoming a thing
No pvp is the best choice they could have made lmao tf you mean
@@bronysaiyan5236 it is almost as if you bothered to read my comment and understand it. Almost. I did not say it was objectively good or bad, I just said I am not touching it. Stop looking for outrage you trog
@@bronysaiyan5236 PVP and other online related community events make all souls-like Fromsoft games relevant to this day. It keeps them alive and that is why I feel like pvp is important to any souls-like. Also it is fun to make a strong/unusual build to fight players with.
@rpstephen elden ring is an rpg before a souls like pvp game. This game is more pve based with pvp destroying the coop community
@@rpstephen you get it. The other people seem to be incapable of grasping it lol
imagine u dont get to respec and you find a legendary weapon at the beginning so you invest leveling up specific stats and later you find someone 3x better and you cant even use it, it you can respec thats fine but rougelikes werent made with souls level system in mind, you’re just able to use everything you get, im sure there’s gonna be more mechanics that ultimately end up being pointless, i like rougelikes but a lot of rougelikes gameplay is just getting lucky, hopefully finding amazing weapons and upgrades, with the sheer amount of stuff thats already in elden ring, i dont think its a good mix
No longer stat requirements for weapons
Correct, no stat requirements but weapons or items you gather can have a level requirement.
Someone hasn't read any of the articles. For one, weapons don't have stat requirements.
okay so, 23:15
I do disagree with the point about bastardization, but it's for a very specific reason.
I am a fucking freak for castlevania, castlevania, before it's dormancy had used the same skeleton sprite for like, 12 years.
but also they had a game that released for xbox arcade, it was called "CastleVania: Harmony of Despair"
NightReign is FromSoftware's "Harmony of Despair"
I can kinda get behind what would be called bastardization in this case, this is from how I see it, 1 to 1 a Harmony of Despair.
It's a non-canon game with a random story as an excuse to test multiplayer mechanics while reusing every asset they have so not relevant lore at all
@@fsjof Even if the story isn't technically canon it can reveal actual lore details, same with the Elden Ring: Road to the Erdtree manga which (so far) disappointingly didn't reveal anything.
I like your handwriting
Ok.. but as far as I understand there’s no pvp?
"recycled content is a positive."
wtf? no
Reused assets is the elden souls borne shadows die twice ring® bread and butter.
It's positive for this game genre you will have enemy diversity without much resources used in this side project
Also late in the video he said it's also a negative because if you played the older games than there's not much here to do
You would think that Fromsoft could create new assets and animations considering how insanely well this games sell.
Hell maybe they’ll hire you for your guidance and balance tested, like lotf kinda did
well described
It'll remain to be seen whether they actually test anything on it
Reading this and others people's comments sections, I find really insane how fromsoft fans have become accustomed, or even welcoming, of recycled assets.
@@SirSunburn they're not the exact same, it was already confirmed old enemies have new movesets.
There are no negatives we are getting something new something more and something fresh and it's in a genre that we love nitpicking only so's doubt where there is none you know nothing till the game comes out neither do I but it looks good
Man, people really do look for any excuse possible to turn hostile to Fromsoftware. Maybe wait until you can get your hands on the game, and try it out for an hour or so before making moral judgement calls on Fromsoftware.
Reasonable critism = turn hostile,
Redditors never change
@@Jeenine There's been a lot more then reasonable criticism. The fact that Fromsoftware has already clarified the game won't be a live service game, that it'll be fully playable solo and offline, and that it's a spin off, and yet people are still going ape shit about how it's a cash grab, they're going full Triple A, sellouts, etc.
But sure, go off about me being a redittor. Sounds a lot like what a redittor would say.
