  • If you're anything like me, you get poison ivy while out enjoying the great outdoors. While I love exploring and spending time outside, it ever fails, I come back home, only to discover that dreadful rash starting to appear. While it can take several days for some, I can usually tell within 6 hours after exposure.
I have struggled with this for years, and have finally found some relief, and of the natural way! Join me as I show you how to make plantain salve, a natural poison ivy relief aid.
Please know that I am not a doctor or a trained medical professional. This remedy is solely based on my own experience and research I have conducted. I strongly encourage you to do the same. Some of the benefits of plantain include, but are not limited to inhibiting growth of bacteria and infection, reducing discharge, drawing out toxins, stop bleeding and help heal wounds.
This plantain salve can be used in a variety of ways, such as on poison ivy/oak, bug bites, bee/insect stings, eczema/psoriasis, sunburn/burn, chapped lips, diaper rash, cuts, rashes and even acne.
    Plantain Salve:
    1 cup olive oil
    1/3 cup dried plantain leaves
    1/4 cup beeswax

I keep bees and I am very excited to make this salve using my own rendered beeswax and plantain from my property. I do want to point out that the little jelly jars are four ounces each. That would be a quarter of a pint apiece for a total of half a pint or one cup. Not two half pint jars. 😉

I dry my herbs in my Excalibur dehydrator at 105°. Time varies, I start out with 12 hours, and adjust after that. Should be very crunchy and easy to crumble.

@@TheCrazyPlace I was told elsewhere, a best before date of a year because of the oil going rancid. The plantain part is fine, but depending what oil is used it could be more or less time. Nut oils are quicker to go rancid than the olive oil.
