A class that large is likely a freshmen course, so there are still many students who think that every class will be fun and easy and entertaining.... But in the real world, many things are difficult, challenging, and yes, even boring sometimes...
I work at a university for a living and to a certain extent I agree with Seabass. If you want to be a meterologist or a CPA, then there is no reason why in God's green earth you should have to be forced to take an Art History course. I teach a large section of American Government and for the life of me, many of the people in that class will have no need to learn about federalism - for example, if they wanted to acquire work curing cancer or work for the NWS (National Weather Service). For those people, the topic of federalism is dull and quite frankly a waste of time and money.

There was a particular student who WAS purposefully yawning rather consistently, as a taunt towards the teacher with the implied insult of his being boring. Are you guys seriously bashing this professor? The student he was talking about obviously was yawning purposely in a way to display a strong hint of boredom. Although I'm not even close to going to college yet, I understand exactly where he's coming from. How would you feel if you were teaching a room full of say, even 40 students, and in the middle of your lesson one of them just has to yawn extremely loud as a way to say "You're boring me." Didn't you guys understand the point of the lecture? He clearly described them as "overly loud yawns" so you could use your common sense to put the pieces together.

I can completely understand why he's so pissed off... This is class in a college/university. Students SHOULD be there to learn. Being rude in a manner in which you intentionally make sure everyone in the class can hear you, is childish, insulting, and disruptive... A class that large is likely a freshmen course, so there are still many students who think that every class will be fun and easy and entertaining.... But in the real world, many things are difficult, challenging, and yes, even boring sometimes...
I work at a university for a living and to a certain extent I agree with Seabass. If you want to be a meterologist or a CPA, then there is no reason why in God's green earth you should have to be forced to take an Art History course. I teach a large section of American Government and for the life of me, many of the people in that class will have no need to learn about federalism - for example, if they wanted to acquire work curing cancer or work for the NWS (National Weather Service). For those people, the topic of federalism is dull and quite frankly a waste of time and money.
So the 220 people are paying to watch the professor yell at a kid?

This wasn't a single event, and it wasn't a natural yawn. There was a particular student who WAS purposefully yawning rather consistently, as a taunt towards the teacher with the implied insult of his being boring. It wasn't a natural function of not getting enough oxygen. It's the equivalent of tossing paper wads at the teacher in grade school whenever his/her back was turned. It was a rude student trying to be rude, and the teacher had enough. Consider all sides of a situation and don't make assumptions.
Thank God I wasn't the only person who noticed this. I was beginning to lose hope.

My only guess is that having one arm made him so self conscious that to make up for it he had to yell at everyone to prove he was still a man or something. I dunno.
