  • What is central sensitization and how is it related to persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD)?
Our central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord. With conditions like chronic pain and chronic dizziness, our central nervous systems can become overly sensitized to environmental stimuli (think: light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, sensitivity to touch or smell) so that we experience exaggerated responses over time to smaller and smaller environmental inputs. This is called negative neuroplasticity.
So, what do we do? Things like VRT, nervous system calming techniques, and attacking those negative thoughts can help bring things back into balance and engage positive neuroplasticity.
How has central sensitization played a role in your chronic dizziness? Let me know below!
