Moral of the story. They are the exact same camera. Same sensor. You are not going to get better image quality out of one then the other. So if you want the extra stuff get the FX3. I love the A7S3 espacially when paired with my other sony cameras like the A1 and R5. Same layout,
Can the FX3 also shoot in S-Log? Currently have a A7RII as A cam and considering getting a FX3 to be the new A cam with the 7RII as B cam but I worry about matching the colors up consistently (say Cinetone vs S Log). Considering A7SIII as A cam if color grading between S-Log and Cinetone is more complicated than I'd like. What do you think?
Please could you show a video comparing the skin tones in these two cameras under the same condition. Since they have the same sensor but I found a video where they compare the fx3 with the fx6, and having these also the same sensor, the skin tones change, why is this? and that's why my question ... will it have a difference between a7s3 and fx3 ??? The pre amps on the FX3 and ability to record 24 bit sound are why you choose it. You may not care if you're shooting a wedding but if you film a musician such as a classical guitar player you can plug your good mics directly into it and capture broadcast quality sound without extra gear.
i saw the fx3 in person in broad daylight and it was impossible to register what i was looking at because of all the reflections, i dont know why manufacturers make the screens glossy
Fortunately,I had both of them! Literally there’s lot of difference between them Not in quality that much but in purpose 🔥 As far as I’m concerned, Fx3 is worth in-terms of technical side … If you guys are looking for photography & videography at the semi professional level. You can have to consider a7s3 at high quality footage for sure… If you are focusing more flimic like videos with more advanced settings ( SLR inputs ,colour tone , higher frame rate , frame free camera , portable, build quality, weather sealed, Cooling fan,better water resistance ….) and also like to take photographs ,fx3 is your camera.
A7siii & Fx3 have literally the exact same HFR options & color tone options. That shouldn’t be a factor in making a choice. Same with portability. They’re nearly the same in that aspect. The big differences are the tally light, cooling fan, & XLR inputs. The Fx3 also isn’t waterproof lol no camera is. And because of the low megapixel count, I wouldn’t use either of these cameras for pro photography.
I’m a comedian and am torn between the A7Siii and FX3. I primarily will stick it on a tripod and film myself in comedy clubs (low light) 4K 24 perhaps as long as 30-45 minutes. Is it possible that the A7Siii will overheat? The FX3 has an internal fan and that’s the only thing making me second guess myself.
for dedicated video shooters the FX3 is absolutely the way to go. Built in professional XLR audio, video focused layout, tally lights, very more than likely won't need an evf. there are plenty of other good videos out there as well
Actually S-Cinetone now on A7S III as of today... so now absolutely no sodding reason to go along with the marketing hype of the FX3.. or in other words, F*£king Xtortionate!
On the topic of the EVF, I am in support of NOT having it on the FX3. This was an amazing pro move by Sony. On any production, the camera operator should ALWAYS use an external monitor or external EVF for maximum articulation and stability. The fixed EVF's on mirrorless cameras are awkward to place your eye because usually the nose hits the LCD screen and it forces the operator to move the camera at above shoulder height which is not always good for the story. GREAT JOB SONY. I hope others will follow.

one of the main differences i like. the zoom rocker, you can so smooth zooms with CIZ on the fx3. also like on how all buttons are labelled with video settings, so i can leave it all default and i know where the WB is, where the ISO is, etc

This actually is helpful when you need zoom in and out when vlogging and/or when filming a subject/product The 4ch audio is needed for some professional filming use cases. I think it depends on what your uses are to choose one over the other. Good to see Sony give more options
i feel like you dont have very much experience. Who’s is actually using the viewfinder if youre shooting film? And why are you talking about so much external details vs things like the sensor and frame rate? Everyone watching this, look for a more detailed video about actual production.
Wow, so this "new" one at a sky-high priced USD $3,900 is one ugly-duckling door stopper. Sony... hard to trust this company anymore. And I always thought that Canon was the rip-off artist extraordinaire..... I mean, Sony is a million nautical miles from how say lowly Blackmagic is treating its customers.
Haha. How do you figure? Blackmagic p4k was less than $1400 at release. The 6k pro at $2500 is still the same as 6k in release. They provided a speed editor and studio bundle for 299$. They have some of the most satisfied customer base out there.

Why is EVERYONE so keen on s-cinetone? Yeah it looks okay, but SLOG is so much better. Has way more dynamic range and is so good for grading...if youre filming something for ultrafast turnarounds (ENG and such) do you want a „cinema-style“ colour palette? No, then you want rec 709...so i really dont get it... can anybody explain, why you would use this?

Main difference for me: Ability to record 4 channels audio. So I can now run LTC timecode with a tentacle and still have two channels of stereo audio. I do have some scenarios where I need EXACTLY that. (Of course I would prefer a dedicated tc-Input and I dooooo miss the NDs, but ... well ...) (and no, FX6 is fine, but I want the IBIS)
Of course you will say the a7siii is better because you have an a7siii if you had an fx3 you would say the fx3 is better because you would have an fx3 and so on and so on.

FX3 any day for professional video work. XLR inputs, active cooling system, mounting points, top handle included, dedicated video buttons, it’s a brilliant and reliable camera. Great job Sony!

You forgot the electronic zoom control ring around the shutter button on the FX3, that is missing on the a7s iii.

What's the point in the FX3? If they are basically the same one just has XLR audio outlets & pre alpha ready to big rigged

None of the 10 differences actually help over 7siii. It just that sony wants to squeeze extra money from already broken art community

No. Same exact sensor. See the stills options, and you will see that only 10.2 MP are used for video of the 12.1 MP sensor.

the answer to all 3 questions is that the FX3 and a7SIII have exactly the same autofocus, sensor/image/lowlight capability/ibis system

The lack of viewfinder in FX3 is a big difference. Viewfinder will always be more accurate than LCD.
