thanks Szewai! Thought of you yesterday-the first dance for a wedding I'm playing next month is the same song Kim & I danced to. :) Can you believe it'll be ten years in July?!?
@@joshuaskaja7873 I can’t believe it! It felt like yesterday! Happy anniversary! And your first dance and the song is still one of my favorites! I actually just choreographed another “Then” with my dancers. And I kept thinking of you guys!
This is a great video. I like how you emphasize /context/ so much - what the rest of the band is doing, how the note choices fit into the key, etc. I /do/ wish you had gone into the solo as played on the record a bit more, and then maybe shown how you would put /your/ stamp on it if you were playing it during a gig of your own. Just to illustrate the great points you are making. But that's just me. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Christian! I think if I were playing this live I would play it like it is on the record. And there's plenty of room to put your own stamp on it in the verses-the space between the riff is improvised each time.
So that's what "chicken pickin" is ! not a huge fan of "country" type stuff so I never checked it out...but great explanation and seems like pretty well accomplished too. More videos would be great Josh; you impart a lot of useful tips, and in a breezy relaxed manner that works well.
You're making a huge mistake thinking Eddie Van Halen meticulously nerd thought and dork scienced ANYthing he created and played. The guy didn't even know how to read music. His creations and playmanship was pure talent and passion, not science, learned from being taught, or thought. He felt what he played. The sound went from his head to his hands. Great video and I love how you share how to play the stuff but I'm sorry, man, you're horribly wrong saying EVH was thinking about music theory and calculating everything in his head before he played it. He just played.
More people Need to see this Video ! Awesome job
Woohoo!

thanks Aidan! yes, chicken picking is a great technique (especially for people like me whose right hand abilities are only so-so)
