I think its great that he still chooses to live in Indiana and not Hollywood. He is a very down to earth guy who seems to actually get better with age.
While working in Myrtle Beach as a lifeguard during the day and tending bar at night in 86, I met John at the Dunes where he used to have the penthouse every 4th of July. He always bought beer and pizza for all the guards one night every year. Genuine human being then and now. You couldn't make him live in L.A. Thanks for the upload
I like what John said about never giving up and changing the world. I am glad Dan Rather interviewed him. Dan is also one of my favorite reporters. John is one of my favorite musicians. My favorite song is Our Country.
I love his music and I admire anyone who will stand up for what they think. 99% of artists read the script and play it safe in order not to alienate anybody, they succumb to popular opinion to safeguard their popularity.. John speaks his mind and stands for what he believes in, his persona isnt laced with phony bullshit.
John "Cougar" Mellencamp is one of my favorites, all time! I'm proud to be from the same state as John. Makes me proud that someone from my area is a legend! WTG John
I found myself writing about close to John.. Sort folk, truth, love, hate, communicate. He for the common man, I'm for the common human.. I'm just beginning to learn how to detail in short... Still growing.. I'm old but what they hell.. lmao Thumbs up John! I'm still a fan.
Cause the simple man, baby, pays for the thrills, the bills, and the pills that kill. :John Mellencamp. (TRUTH and if he never made it big he would still be playing and singing. This is just the way it is.)
He's as stupid in politics as he is genius in songwriting and like-ability. Don't let politics dictate who think is a good man. Mellencamp's a good man.
To the guy that said oil is our most important commodity, click, wrong sorry no gumball for you. What created oil? Who fought for oil? And um without oil guess what we wouldn't be in that expensive bloody war that makes us less safe each time. Watch,, Personalized Energy.
how is john mellencamp for the commomn man do you know he played for the the owner of a capitalist venture company for his private birthday party that knocked us out of the union pension in Chicago
I would say he is a liberal populist...his heart may be in the right place but his politics is confused because the liberals in our country today do not really work for the common man. Likewise the establishment Dems and Republicans with extremes on both sides are not good. If he really studied conservatism I think he would be closer to that on some issues..even libertarian to some degree ie free speech....but he is so immersed in socialist ideals it is not compatible. Love his music....I think he needs a better understanding of God and religion. What he speaks about is our fallen nature...no politician can fix that only God.
Politically speaking he is incredibly naive. He offers incredibly simplistic solutions to complex problems.....If the issues he speaks of were so easy to solve I am sure it would have been done already. He is for the common man.....but lives the life of a wealthy man. I find him confusing but for some reason I still like him and his music.

Fantastic interview. John Mellencamp is a cool dude.
Words of wisdom. Seems very eloquent and thoughtful. Have been a fan of his for nearly 40 years now.
Would be interested to hear a John Mellencamp interview in 2023

Two decades of holidays alone changes the person

Long live John Mellencamp!!!
JOHNS MUSIC IS AMERICAN AT ITS BEST
This is America and he like all of us has a right to speak what he believes. Right or wrong he stands for what he believes in.
Rock on John
Good interview. I was a bit distracted by the Tweed Fender and Gibson Dove behind him, though.
this is a free country, we have the right an opinion..
I have the answer to Johns question about life. I know because i spent many years searching for that answer and found it.
you've proven your point abundantly..

That's absolute bullshit.
is he talking about himself at the end?
his politics suck, but his music his timeless
His politics are genius.
love it when journalists who don't know shit about music interview musicians...
Love his politics.

Dan trying to be cool. What a dip

Well - what are your ideas?
I used to love his music even played a lot of his hits in a cover band but I really don't care for him at all
DITTO
No I think YOUR politics suck.
Johnny Cougar says don't quit but supports the Welfare quitters. Hypocrite.
