They really did, I sit right behind the opposing bench and I watched guys puke from exhaustion then run back out there 2 plays later

This was my first game as a Penn State fan and it was such a great one for a first. Hats off to App State, their fans and team is a class act. When power 5 conference talks happen in the future I think App. State should really be considered, in my opinion they are the best team in North Carolina.

From Penn State fan, I got huge respect for app state because they are no joke.
App State became my second favorite team that day. I was there and they definitely played their hearts out. That entire program and fanbase is nothing but a class act.
That throw by Thomas in the 4th was unreal!! App State’s QB played absolutely off the chain

App state is a really good team. Beat Michigan in I wanna say 2007 at the big house, took #9 Tennessee to OT in Neyland in 2016, and took #10 Penn State to OT in Happy Valley. 😳

This game was gut wrenching, as an App fan. Came close against Tennessee, Wake Forest, and then to have this game drop the way it did. But this type of loss built the character that got App a pair of wins over UNC and USC in 2019 and seems to have created a weird bond between App Sfate and Penn State fans so, all is well that ends well.
I bet if App State gets in the end zone in O.T. they would have gone for 2. Would have been real interesting! Great game. Love college football!

I was one of the few Penn State fans not at all surprised by the outcome. I remember telling everyone before hand that App State would give us all we could handle, I predicted 35-24 Penn State but closer than the final score indicates. After the game I was like "told you". Anyways, I have a request for another Penn State game to remember, it's an old one, but Penn State vs Illinois 1994. It was Penn State's dream season but it quickly turned into a nightmare after a 21-0 Illinois first quarter, then Penn State slowly came back to win 35-31 with less than a minute left. Also, the 34-29 win over Northwestern in 2005 is another game to remember, that game sparked an amazing season.
Appalachian State are the giant killers of college football. What an amazing program they have there

In-State "Championship" game next season. App St v Wake Forest Sept 12th 2020. Been top two teams for past few years.

Zac Thomas has a future ahead of him
Looking back on this game and hearing names like Miles Sanders and Juwan Johnson makes this even more insane to me. That Penn State team was stacked beyond what we even realized at the time.
Which just makes the Michigan upset even more impressive. They had 3 future NFL wideouts, most notably Mario manningham. Chad henne was QB and launched a pass in that game 70 yards in the air like it was nothing, Jake Long was on the OL, and Brandon Graham on the DL. There were several other players who signed to NFL teams on that roster, but those are the ones I recognize as a 23 year old. It was THAT vs the only notable NFL names for app being Armanti Edwards and Brian quick (Daniel Kilgore too but he was a freshman). Only 9 players on the roster even have Wikipedia pages
The 2018 app team had about 4-5 players who still stick around in the NFL, mainly Virgil, Davis-gaither, and darryngton evans. It wasn’t even in the same ballpark of a David vs Goliath compared to app vs Michigan, yet the Michigan games the one they won.

I have a friend who is a Michigan fan and watching this game all I could think about was how much crap I gave him when APP state upset them in the big house and I thought as a nits fan this game was gonna be my payback.

Sometimes it is good to be an App State student. No other team in the Carolinas (except Clemson) has the kind of football atmosphere and tradition like App State. Trust me, come to Boone before a home game.
I actually predicted the score of this game and I was right. I even said that it would go into OT. Even though Penn State was not as good that year, App State is a consistently good program. All that you have to do to see this is to take a look at their program history.

Special teams is THE most important aspect of a football game. Every upset or comeback in a game starts with a special teams fuck up. Considered to be so simple it’s overlooked.
People gotta stop scheduling App State. These guys come close to knocking off someone big each year

App State always seems to give up a touchdown on the first drive lol. They'll destroy some teams 48-7 but that 7 points will be on the opposing team's first drive. I look at a lot of these close calls they've had and I can just imagine where they'd be today if they could fix that habit.

We're Top 25 just like Michigan. I left the NFL when it became the no contact league. Never looked back since.
This year, college football has new rules. And because of that, I was unable to watch a single game so far.
Looks like I'm done with college football also.

If Penn State made that stop on 4 and 2 app state would not have had a chance and trace would have scored or took time of the clock. Penn State has tackling issues and Pitt might give them fits. However you never know what kind of Pitt you’re going to get.

This may sound harsh to some but I remember the 1970s when a player would be badly hurt. Laying on the field and the game kept going around him.
In those days, we called it football.
Nowadays, I don't know what to call it but it ain't football anymore.....

Anyone that knows me will tell you that me leaving college football is an impossibility.
I would sit in front of the TV from noon to 1 o'clock in the morning.
No matter who was playing.
For more than 30 years
Leaving the NFL was big but I got over it.
Now it's time to leave college football.

So leaving a dude who could be dying on the field while the game is still being played was football? I'm pretty sure that's just a huge safety hazard
Of course, in the 1970s, players / coaches and fans had a very different mind set. It was no secret to anyone that players were aiming to inflict pain and injuries to their opponents.
But what I am saying is that nowadays, players could play without any equipments and you wouldn't see the difference.
2) The game is always stopped by some time out, injury time out, coaches challenge and referee review.
3) For almost every play, you have commercials in between. There is no flow anymore.
4) I remember when Defensive players were treated as superstars. Now, you barely hear about them.
Just like the next guy, I always liked a touchdown
But I was hooked to football because of the Defensive side of the game.
