Jason Becker is the shred guitar prophet and Marty preaches the word of Melodic Control. That's an incredible symbiotic relationship. Learning a bit of theory and applying it to the nigh-extent of guitar athleticism. Marty does cool stuff in Japan now
Dejan Dejc To be honest, I'm more touched by Marty's bends, they resonate deeper within my soul, rather than Gary's. But hey, that's just my personal opinion.
Shinra Kazuya Marty's bends are something new odd different... and yea they are pheromones for my ears.. but listening to Gary's bends is just...point of no return ;) Give Gary a chance and listen to him more deeply Im positive you will be inspired :)
His guitar lessons are some of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. If Marty and Steve Albini got together and gave an hour lecture on how not to play the guitar, I am sure I would have to wear diapers from peeing myself after laughing too hard.
every few seconds, especially when Marty is talking, the audio goes out of sync. hmm.. i wonder if there's something wrong with my laptop or if something happened in the GW headquarters as they were filming this anyway, great lesson. thank you, Marty Friedman. i still get the chills each time I hear the 'Tornado Of Souls' solo
Slightly unrelated But how much would you want to see Marty play some old songs that he did with Jason with Jeff Loomis (for example) A Jeff and Marty playthrough of Speed Metal Symphony would be the best thing ever.. But we can only dream
Very few guitarists can make me sit down and learn from a screen. Marty is one of them. He makes me want to keep playing guitar. Only other guitarist I can say that about is James Hetfield. And maybe Chris Poland but he's nowhere to be found in DVD's/records.
I do not play guitar but consider myself a music enthusiast. Anyways, I always found that Marty's sound had a lot of Arabic influences and this video demonstrates it perfectly.
He mixes Natural Minor and Harmonic Minor a lot is what he was going to say. I got a lot out of this really. You just got to interpret/transpose it into your own music/scales/style.
@@CHOPERUS23 wth? fck u man. jason is my favorite guitarist of all time but why the hell u putting down marty? jason would hate ur comment btw. he calls marty his brother.
Or do what you think sounds best instead of abiding by what others say. Friedman doesn't like them and i'm sure a lot of these bandwagon fans don't like them like Friedman, that doesn't mean that should interfere with your creativity.
I used to practice to Friedman's instructional vidoes in the '90s. I used to be able to hit those wild bends, uitinl I nearly lost my left index finger in an accident (Severed the tendons and nerves just below the joint at the tip; my finger was "haging on."). Now, I have to use an extra finger to get enough strength to do it, which affects my playing. Factory work sucks for musicians.
For me the first exemple is good, i like the simplicity of it, because sometimes, in my opinion, less is better. And figure 2 is great for me if you look for a sort of aggressivity. Sure it depend also of what you look for melody. It is just for say that there is billion way to play something (particularly for him), but there is also infinite way to play something bad (particularly for commun guitar player).
I like how for the bad examples he makes it sound really bad and for he good ones (proper marty way) hes got a really clean tone. Talk about expression
Audio out of sink ? What can I say he is a master and I have learned some thing new. TBH I feel like I know nothing when I listen to the heroes of the guitar world. I AM NOT WORTHY TO BE ON THE SAME PLANET AS THESE SUPER HUMANS !!!!
Cracked me up! Marty was quite "expressive" with his language as well as the guitar.
Haha "then you're fucked up!!"
@ 2:50
He's "eccentric". Respect to him, though.
Damn Marty has some wicked vibrato.
"please shoot me on the spot" "it sounds like shit!"
Marty I love you
But if you want to don’t let me stop you!
Jason Becker is the shred guitar prophet and Marty preaches the word of Melodic Control.
That's an incredible symbiotic relationship. Learning a bit of theory and applying it to the nigh-extent of guitar athleticism. Marty does cool stuff in Japan now
No Dave Mustaines and Kirk Hammetts were harmed in the making of this film.
These lessons from Marty and the way he explains things is a massive contribution to the world of guitar. Marty is a cool cat.
3:43 My attempts at music
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always learn and laugh a lot when Marty is here... cool guy
Marty cracks me up he is so funny and cool Ive literally busted out laugh so many times in these new guitar world lesson things
Marty is my favorite guitarist in this world. I like his guitar solo.
Master of bends.
That's Gary Moore ;)
Dejan Dejc Both!
Dejan Dejc To be honest, I'm more touched by Marty's bends, they resonate deeper within my soul, rather than Gary's. But hey, that's just my personal opinion.

Dejan Dejc Alrighty, I've listened but only a bit. I'll give it a chance. Thanks.
I know Kirk is watching this.
i ne'd
Hahahahahah!
Yeah....And he's wishing he could play well every day aswell.
I busted out laughing!!!
No hes busy counting hes money
Viel Gwapa yeah because if talent determined income he'd be at minimum wage compared to Marty..
Marty is the greatest guitar teacher in the world.
Such a great player with an instantly recognizable style!
Ever listened to Jason Becker? Think your choice of guitarists might become more grown up after listening to Jason.
I appreciate his sense of humor, and his expression of notes is just delicious!
His guitar lessons are some of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. If Marty and Steve Albini got together and gave an hour lecture on how not to play the guitar, I am sure I would have to wear diapers from peeing myself after laughing too hard.
I would never let my kids hear swearing but for some reason I wouldn't mind them hearing it from Marty, he expresses it in the correct way.
every few seconds, especially when Marty is talking, the audio goes out of sync. hmm.. i wonder if there's something wrong with my laptop or if something happened in the GW headquarters as they were filming this

Justin Orprecio I got it too
He is a good teacher

thelolmaster1997
That would be so fucking awesome.
Holy fucking shit request of the century

jerky2112 I was looking for this comment😂😂
@FiftyCaliberTV Corey, Trevor. Pepperoni and Smokes Let's go!
J to tha R-O-C baby!
He didn't only give a hint on expresivity, but awares us on many other options you can go for in case of composition or impro
Master! And love the way he teaches...and his direct way of telling things XD!
3:21 Guitar world made him overdub lol...I'd love to hear what he actually said.
Brian Auer Lip read him, I think he just stuttered or stumbled over his words and they lagged the audio back slightly
you might be right. I noticed a few other times in the vid. Probably added stuff to it to make the video more cohesive.
"if i ever start a solo like that SHOOT me" - real reason marty left megadeth xD
he makes me never want to touch guitar again
clumpyify He makes me want to touch my guitar more.
He does that!
Slide to vibrato alt pick to a descending sweep and end with a string skipping pentatonic ascent.
Dont use up your fingers......"Then you're Fucked"
thats probably the best advice in this video
I love Marty. He's my favorite guitarist along with James Hetfield.
Ever listened to Jason Becker? Think your choice of guitarists might become more grown up after listening to Jason.
Emil Andersen oh look, someone crapped his big boy pants
@@CHOPERUS23 james hetfield is a pretty good rhythm guitarist and writer. nothing wrong with that
Begon Genesis pretty good is an understatement. One of the best rhythm guitarist.
Most important lesson of all times!
Isn't it weird how Marty's lips suddenly are out of sync for a moment at 3:20?
yeah weird
MkUltra reptilian lmao
nocturnalrectum it’s cuz he’s a robot
Anunnaki language
Probably edited
The most signature marty technique
5:52 marty sums up the entire lesson
Even after century, even to the new world you would still be the man who has the best melody ever..... You may be god afterlife...
Great Lesson!!! Marty Friedman RULES
Guthrie Govan does unison bends, so they're fine by me. Near the end of regret #9 he does a couple and it sounds amazing, given the context.
Thats y u have a wavy and full of feel in the solos.
that sustain is crazy
This guy is becoming my favorite teacher because he wants you to think outside of the box and have character. Very open minded.
His style is awesome love it ,Marty for president.
laughed so much at 02:45 xD
There’s so much sustain its unreal
The best bending lesson ever
The scale he was thinking about near the end is called "melodic minor" if anyone was wondering.
OMG when he says "then you are fucked up" I'm laughing so hard hahahahahaha
You could learn more about phrasing by watching an hour of Marty videos than you could by spending a month with a guitar teacher
It kinda sounded like phyrgian dominant. But that's related to harmonic minor...I'm saying you're right
thasun00 I agree definately phyrgian dominant! Sounds cool when used properly in modern rock.
yeah in that part he's changing between harmonic minor, melodic minor and a weird chromatic thing, freaking hangar 18, scale changes every 2 seconds
Friedman is guitar lord would love to see a megadeth reunion cmon marty give us one more tour
So thats where the title of Sweating Bullets came from!
Marty is just too good

i love this guy so much
I love him more than his actual music damn he's just Cool
Say what you will, Marty has electric guitar down at this point. A true musical genius.
Such a brilliant player!!!
It fucking made me laugh at 2:50 when he said "and you fucked up because you used up your fingers" xD
Friedman fucking rules!! His playing is awesome too!
This is so cool.
at least he is not trying to take your soul whith his eyes like in "melodic control " DVD
lol
He was high in that video
He and Chris were easily the most distinctive lead players in Megadeth, in large because BECAUSE of their respective approaches to bending.
sounds like the solo for aint talkin bout love at least the first part
I would love to hear him & Chris Poland team up boi!!! Just one album or a Megadeth lineup with them & both Daves!
Marty you rock
Best video ever.
El bending de tornado of soul....sublime ...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏☠☠☠
His playing is unique
Phrygien style ,i love that !
Whatchoo got against unison bends, bro?!
Too easy & overused man. Stand out and be different
Or do what you think sounds best instead of abiding by what others say. Friedman doesn't like them and i'm sure a lot of these bandwagon fans don't like them like Friedman, that doesn't mean that should interfere with your creativity.
thelolmaster1997 And single string bends aren't? lmao
Besides learning I was laughing!
thanks marty
"" just sound like shit"" .. me playing all the time. LOL
It’s great man

eeooowwwrrreear eeaaowwwoooowwwwwahwahwah eeeoirear ieuouworororou!. he can play with 2 dam fingers and sound more wicked then any1 else
"You know what I'm saying?! No RAGRETS."
try to play shred with egyptian scale and use this bend technique, it will sound awesome
4:52 🤭🤭❤️❤️❤️❤️😅😅 You rock Marty😁
Marty just explained the first note of Tornado solo :)
Now if he could just explain the other 9,802…
I keep wanting to believe that he's about to go into playing the rest of 'Braveheart'
Kiko makes those unison bends sound awesome on Angra records. Nawuh I'm sayin'?
Cheers marty
I fucking love Marty, lol!
i like my really really long bends and lots of double stops
He’s very fun. 😆
... Gary Moore - WIld Frontier, anyone? That phrase he's working around sounds like it ^^
There comes a time in every guitar players life where the urge to own a PRS becomes too powerful to ignore.....
Donde puedo encontrar las tabs? 🙏🏼
