In simple psychology it is recognised that praise is a much bigger motivation to do better than constant criticism. It’s also recognised that without proper rest progress improvement and health will always be worse. If the trainee system had an overhaul based on proven facts of productivity and health idols would be happier and the entire system would benefit.

True, but good friggin' luck getting set-in-their-ways Koreans to ever understand that.
Even the Japanese of all people have made further strides than the Koreans, and their entertainment culture was notorious for insane fans and mistreatment of Idols before K-pop even existed.

    • @Soufriere84

That would require Korea to actually address its hopelessly broken society rather than blaming all their problems on what Japan did to them 80+ years ago. Never gonna happen.
(I won't ever deny Japan's atrocities, but the way Korean leaders on both sides of the DMZ overreacted in the years after the war just made everything worse for regular people)

a lot of the comments people are leaving about this in defence of the company/industry just disgust me, and i think it’s very telling that they all ignore the most serious and harrowing parts of the allegations ie these teenage girls hurting themselves with one attempting to end their own life, and instead focus on the money (which they still deliberately misrepresent by leaving out the part that this isn’t even normal trainee debt, it’s them being expected to pay $500k for a $2.5m home that the company could have just… not purchased).
if you can’t even accurately talk about the matters actually being discussed in the suit, and instead have to make up details so you can blame the 17 year old girl over the corporation, you have no respect for the human dignity of the idols you claim to love, and it also says a lot about how utterly unconscionable the company’s actions are, because even their defenders are too ashamed to touch the worst parts.
just because idols have achieved huge success in the current state of the industry, that doesn’t mean that companies’ actions are good or excusable. labour and safety laws are written in blood.

That is exactly what has allowed child abuse in the entertainment industry in all countries, because in the end if they want to get in they have to be able to endure the misery and abuse that comes with it despite it being illegal and a clear abuse of the rights of minors.
I am grateful that this girl spoke up, I hope more idols continue to do it as they being doing it till now to achieve a better regulation of the system, and I hope the fans stop giving money to this industry, in the end that is what keeps them running and allows them to justify their abuse.

I think a lot of people give JYPE the benefit of the doubt (or think of it as the "better" company) because of TWICE. Even when they were also st*rved and bullied because of their weight, they're such a powerhouse that JYPE can no longer just treat them badly and the girls are comfortable enough to renew their contract. That, unfortunately, doesn't mean that JYPE is suddenly a good company, they'll treat you right if you bring the money and have the longevity, otherwise, you're just cannon fodder. I hope VCHA leave JYPE and give it another shot with some other company because I've been following them since A2K and I was so pumped for their cb next year :(

But those who knew Got7 leaving them and other idols whishing for an album and get noticed is sad. This situation may happen for all companies , except for a few new ones. GD who's under YG wanted to be a hiphop idol with Taeyang , but they became bigbang . He was also constantly looked down by bad people but luckily he did well . Mamamoo did not disband , but they left rbw except for Moonbyul unnie and Solar unnie who still stays , it has been alleged that they also got mistreated by mma 2019. JYP might not change any sooner , but the girls deserves better and understanding supervisors

As a massive Vlight and an equally massive KG bias she is/was one of my ults I can’t help but feel so heartbroken. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this for days because I was so ready for VCHA’s comeback with KG in it. It baffles me that all this has been going on behind the scenes And for them to say that they’ve been working on a new album?? So you mean to tell us that since KG walked out in May, y’all have been working on the album without KG?? Makes no damn sense. The fact that they also uploaded her birthday post shows they didn’t want any of this to come out. KG definitely tried to leave she probably even told them that her mental health wasn’t good anymore and that she needed to leave but they wouldn’t let her, which brings us to December 7th and the lawsuit. It’s devastating because, just last year during pre-debut, KG was so happy to debut. In every video, you can see her lighting up the girls’ faces with her smile, and she always had one on her face too when she was with them, from that alone and what she said during A2K about how she had never made friends like these girls before KG would never lie about any of this. She deeply cares about the girls and would never want to hurt them. It was probably tough for her to leave because of them, but she just wasn’t herself anymore and had to prioritize her mental health and we all understand that. The same goes for the other girls; what they’ve been through is horrible. The thought that they could be getting gaslit and manipulated by the company right now is terrifying. JYPE US already used the girls against KG in their statement, which is disgusting. They are terrible, monstrous people who are victim-blaming a 17-year-old girl. It makes me sick. I hope the other girls leave too and stay far away from that company. They, along with KG, deserve so much better. This entire situation wouldn’t have happened if the company hadn’t forced the K-pop trainee system onto these girls. I’m incredibly proud of KG for standing up for herself and taking action not just for herself but for her friends and the K-pop industry as a whole. No matter what happens, KG will go down as one of K-pop’s bravest heroes, forever. My heart goes out to KG, Camila, Kendall, Kaylee, Lexus, and Savanna. I hope KG wins this fight and saves K-pop and these girls from this awful situation. That’s the best outcome we can hope for. Even if the girls go on and stay as a group, I’ll be supporting them from the sidelines-but to me, VCHA will always be SIX. I love these girls and hope and pray the best for them, #AlwaysWithKG #WeLoveYouKG #FightingForVCHA #PROTECTVCHA

The things KG is claiming in her post and in her lawsuit is not just a civil matter. This happened in California, to children. A lot of what she describes is actual child abuse. What angers me more, people are jumping to defend JYPE but even if KG is wrong - vlights know that Kaylee's hiatus started all of this, and she's STILL NOT BACK. We don't even know if the MOST POPULAR MEMBER will be back. And also, Kendall hasn't been seen in months. Idk about the timeline and we didn't think too much about it at the time but the other 3 members have been seen together repeatedly with a manager. So now that we have this new information, it's concerning. 3/6 members are not seen. And while we shouldn't speculate who committed, just to explain my logic here: it isn't KG, as she reported on the incident. So KG left, leaving us with 5. OK, JYPE can make a cb with that. But that means another member will either leave bc they attempted or worse, continue despite it. And that's assuming Kaylee comes back. If it was Kaylee and she still continues, 5 members. If it was her and she doesn't return from hiatus (which she still shouldn't anyway, as she's 15), that leaves 4 members. And now if Kaylee leaves but she didn't attempt but one of the others, that leaves us with either 4 members (one who attempted), or the one leaves and VCHA is now 3 (!!!). And it'll also look terrible, basically confirming that at best, this project was so terrible that half of the girls rather leave then take a shot at stardom.
So, I hope this makes any sense but I don't see how JYPE saw them having a cb. Since spring (?), KG was out, Kaylee was on hiatus and one member was / is very sick. So the announcement of cb right before the lawsuit after months of silence and then the blaming of KG for halting the group is questionable. I just wanna reiterate, if this group comes back as 5 that means that at least one of them is not doing well. And I word it like this bc we don't know what happened but uh, sorry but I don't see why KG would lie about this. But just for now I'll say it like this bc this is the "best outcome". Which is still horrible.

This probably would've back fired on them but it still did anyways. Not only that they don't want KG to leave which is why they wouldn't terminate her contract, this entire time they could've but didn't. I think they know that KG is a huge fan favorite and is probably the one member that could do the most for the group in the future cause of her song writing and production skins (literally her storyline on a2k). Another thing is Kendall's contract of approval has been getting looked out recently like KG's so.. idk what that could mean

News like this makes me want to abandon KPop as a whole. But I'm feeling more confident in how they take care of Katseye. For one, there is only one minor, and they have excluded her involvement in a few sketches due to OSHA regulations. And during training days, they do not go against doctor's orders. They seem to be keeping that policy by the amount of absences. My only complaint would be that they might be overtraining, judging by the amount of injuries they get.

I know most of the case and I was talking to my mom about this. Basically, The Kpop industry is having the same problems that old Hollywood child stars had BEFORE child labor laws were made and we have what we do now. However, you have to understand, this is partly a cultural difference where South Korea doesn't have the same type of laws that America has. NOW THAT BEING SAID, NO it DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT What JYPE did, However, it does make them have to be accountable because IF THEY WANT to stay on America grounds of operation, THEY WILL NEED To change how their company operates, AND hopefully it will spark a cultural change in South Korea if the shock waves are large enough to go that far. But unfortunate still is that this issue doesn't just lay with Kpop, this is how bad the entertainment industry is, or can be. And really, this should set a new trend for Entertainment WORLD OVER to change to treat people like people and not just commodities to be "bought and sold" which what the entertainment industry is as a whole, and not just isolated to Kpop.
EDIT: Also to further add, the fact that entertainment companies are controlling right down to their hair, social media, etc, is NOT UNUSUAL, Painful and horrible yes, but also, this kind of stuff has been going for years, whether is Kpop OR Otherwise. No of course it's NOT RIGHT, but not unusual either. I hope this comment enlightens some people and yes, I'd ALSO like to see change as well.

Everyone needs to realize, regardless of what genre of music they are in, the music industry is an evil place..Signing a contract to any music company or entertainment company is like signing your life away because these people now own you..I understand kids have a dream of being famous but they need to look deep into what goes on in the entertainment industry, it’s not glitz and glamour..It’s evil..Parents also need to look into the dark sides of the entertainment industry before letting their child get into these companies..My eyes have been opened to what really goes on in the entertainment industry for 8 years now and it isn’t pretty..Hearing this going on with KG was not shocking because it’s been going on for years with minors even in the US of being abused etc..

Sure it may make difficult for some companies to come to US, but the industry won't be affected, it's just a market.

News like this makes me want to abandon kpop as a whole. But then I remember the idols being passionate and deserving of love who I don't want to abandon, and I remember the western music industry being... well... not that much better. It sucks. but there is just no ethical consumption in entertainment when companies care more about money than caring for their talent. The best we as fans of kpop can do is protest for better treatment of idols, speak in support of idols standing up for themselves, and boycott when necesary to get the point across. Kpop companies care about money, so if their treatment of idols causes them to lose money due to fans not wanting to support it anymore, change can happen. Until then, unless laws are put into place to protect idols and other people in the korean entertainment industry as a whole, the most we as fans can do is speak out and demand change

so scary that all the things brought up in that lawsuit are things we as fans are already aware of, makes me question my support for these entertainment companies. the high expectations are built i think because there are a few groups that survive the kpop system and their public image remains unaffected. but those groups are also just surviving in a system that actively tries to harm them. no one thrives in that kind of environment. it reminds me of LOONA and their contract being terminated and how surprising that was for idols to sign the contracts they did. i hope kg's lawsuit goes in her favor!

American kids are raised not to put up with crap, to be totally self expressive and not to long tolerate work with no pay (or, worse, receive massive debt for their hard work)
Sure there have been American born idols in Korea, but the percentage that end up having massive issues making them return home is notably high.

I am not trying to compare, and I love both groups, but it’s hard not to bring up KATSEYE. Like I am really upset this is happening with VCHA, KG, the member who attempted, and ultimately the other members, and what happened was not really shocking, even if JYPe is viewed as the better of the main 3 companies in terms of treating their members, but that doesn’t mean JYPe treats their members good. TWICE is a good example of this, I don’t need to explain further or else this comment will be 28 pages long.
Why I bring up KATSEYE, is because I believe the treatment is different than what I see from other kpop groups even the kpop groups within HYBE. I think it has to do with KATSEYE being under HYBExGeffen, as geffen is a US based company. I feel like Katseye is being treated like a US girl group, and VCHA was being treated like a Kpop girl group. The whole culture shock VCHA would’ve had to endure would be too different than what they imagined. I’m not saying that how kpop groups are treated good, but US labor laws especially in regard to minors is much more developed.
I am really hopeful that KG will win, especially since the state of California has one of the strictest child labor laws in the world due to Hollywood and their obsession with child stars

No amount of advancements in psychology or human rights will better the trainee system. A system that tries to make up for innate talent and genetics, with brute force, can never produce lasting good results and will collapse sooner or later.

The Starlight Boys survival show challenge situation was terrible, but unfortunately there are probably companies doing similar things but they never show it. Especially if you are not one of the better performing trainees, companies likely don't really care about your well-being, they care more about your marketability and your idol image. And if you are one of the better performing trainees, you are probably expected to stay quiet at the mistreatment of others if you don't want to face problems with your company, and if anyone mentions a difficult situation, to lower the severity of the situation and laugh it off, I just saw a video of TWICE on a live when they were talking about their diets as trainees and they casually said with smiles on their faces/laughing about how the staff didn't give them company cafeteria food coupons because they were on a "'diet" so they had to sneak into the cafeteria and eat other trainees food that they would get for them to eat, like wtf?!?!??!?!?

It's also likely to get the Assembly involved. Coming after Hanni's testimony about Hybe (and yes, I know KG's complaint is more serious), the government is going to be forced to crack down on some of Kpop's harsher practices. No company should ignore medical problems and proscriptions for rest and healing. Kpop is too big a part of Korea's new image to let it be tainted by stories like this. If I were an agency, I'd be running a top-to-bottom review of trainee training protocols and identifying anything that might get them in trouble. OH let's not forget LA is extremely expensive! The harsh training was there since A2k and even more so in the Korea portion, she knew what she was getting into. That's why Christina was glad she did not debut, and even the other girl leaving during the transition from the LA portion to Korea portion. We know KG is using the typical Starvation and extreme training to push her agenda, contract termination. If what KG is alleging is true then yes her contract should be terminated, but shouldn't the choice of the Other members be theirs to decide if they want to continue? That's how you know there are a ton of Anti-Vchas out there, because before the truth is out, they already want VCha to disband and for other groups under JYPE to suffer. You know these people just hate JYPE. If they were logically consistent, with changing the Kpop industry they would stop listening and supporting it, it's that simple. But they can't.

Bang Si-Hyuk specifically recruited Min Hee-Jean from SM to capitalize off her creative legacy (SNSD, Fx, Shinee, Exo, Red Velvet), culminating in the New Jeans project to make up for his own failures with Glam. Bang's envy and hubris clearly get the better of him as illustrated in this huge company document leak, as he tries to bury New Jeans while stripmining and creating krappy knock-offs. Give them food, give them water, let them sleep, don't humiliate or blackmail them. Most normal people working with youngsters manage this on a daily basis. And that goes for Korean trainess/idols too.

Complaining about earning little while having big debt. What did you think? These companies spend millions up front incurring all the risk. You aren't making any money for the company at the beginning. It's pretty much all costs. This isn't only related to kpop. In America, the companies might give advances, but it all needs to be paid back.
Truthfully though, I knew there would be issues with kpop in America. Most Americans don't have the drive or determination to put in the work, they just want the fame and popularity.
It's like many kids want to be Olympic gymnasts but most can not make the cut... not enough drive and determination to reach that level... I hope that the kpop industry learns that having kpop in America is not a good idea... it never was.

@@memryse this is an obtuse response because that’s not what this person is saying. Let’s not pretend that stories of strict restrictions on food and diet leading to unhealthy food relationships and EDs are new to Kpop. Let’s not pretend that rigorous, grueling work schedules are par for the course in Kpop. Let’s not pretend that performing whole sick or injured is the norm in Kpop. Suga had a shoulder injury that needed surgery to correct for years and still performed. No one’s saying this is ok but it is equally ridiculous for JYP to think they could apply this to non-Koreans and it would be ok as it is for these non-Koreans to think they would be immune to the agreed upon kpop system. Again not right and things should change but you also have to know what you’re signing up for. Not only do there need to be changes to the Kpop system but companies need to stop trying to do this global group stuff. It doesn’t work, it won’t work.

    • @memryse
      @memryse Месяц назад +4

@@lboogii never said any of it was new to kpop. my point is that this is not okay regardless of how normalised it is, and i don’t think it’s the teenage girls’ fault especially when they were under the impression that the american labour laws would be followed. teenagers are not known for having rational, completely informed decision making, and again jype expressly stated that they would follow these labour laws. jype lied and flagrantly violated them to operate in the exact same way that they would in korea (which is *still* utterly despicable and i would have exactly the same response to this happening in korea).
i think it’s incredibly misrepresentative for this commebter to talk about trainee debt (which is irrelevant given that the debt she is talking about is from jype buying a $2.5m home and expecting them to pay for it, not the cost of training them) and blame the girls’ work ethic without mentioning that lives were very nearly lost here. if you feel the need to defend a multimillion dollar company from a child like that commenter did, at least say it with your full chest that you think it was the member’s fault that she attempted to end her own life, because she apparently should have known what she was getting into. because to literally everybody else that is how this comes across.

    • @lboogi
      @lboogi Месяц назад

@ your response is obtuse because the commenter said nothing about normalizing anything. In saying that that is what they are saying minimizes the intention of the post and dismisses the discussion you say you want to have. Aside from that, there is no need for the commentor to normalize anything. It’s already normalized in Kpop and has been for over a decade. Should changes be made sure. Like I said though… it was ridiculous for JYP or any of these companies to think they would be able to treat foreign members like they would treat usual trainees. This kind of treatment is not within our culture. It is also ridiculous for these members to think they would be treated differently from usual trainees. Like it or not an artist’s debt to the company is absolutely a factor. I don’t think this will affect the change that is needed in the kpop industry, it might just codify it into contracts or something else.
