I have a 2001 X308 XJR. I haven't had the problems you have had so far. I also own the competitors from these years by BMW & Mercedes. BMW 740iL is an awesome machine. It handles like a smaller 3 or 5 series. The Mercedes S500 and the SL500 are both great cars to own. The sales bi-line "The Best Or Nothing" is pretty accurate for these years. But, if I had to choose one to keep over all of the luxury vehicles I have, I would probably keep the Jag over the BMW's & Mercedes that I have. When I sit in the XJR and drive it ... I totally feel like I'm in a more relaxed and comfortably cool world. I'm happier and more content in the Jag over the German competition. It's hard to explain. But, it is real!

It's nothard to explain. The Jag has soul, and you connect with it

It’s basically a smaller, sleeker, and more economical Bentley Arnage.

2000 Jaguar XJR - Eight Year Ownership Update (Should I Buy One Again?) - YES! Perfect long distance car. No problems.
Here in Germany the XJR X308 is a very rare find. A really good example will sell for over EUR 30.000. Nice vid - Thanks!

I understand your love for the Jag. I found one by accident. A 2003 Super V8, with 144, 640 miles. It needed work so I talked the owner down to $2,700. He originally wanted $5,400. The following was needed. New brakes all the way around. New CAT shocks all the way around. Stabilizer links and bushings. Replaced headlamp and a missing hub cap. New hood lifts and new spare tire, oil change, filter change, intake filter change, NGK Ruthenium spark plugs, supercharge oil change and new speakers on the front and rear door (huge sound improvement. Replaced a blown stereo amp with a used amp. Finally, a Mina Gallery air intake tube. Purchase price plus all the mentioned parts come to $5,931. I did all the work myself so I saved on labor. I still need to change the transmission fluid, flush and replace the brake fluid and replace the valve cover gaskets as they are leaking oil into the spark plug well. It is a sexy, beautiful head turning car in Canary Red. The interior is in great shape, plus it has the fold down picnic tables in the back with the extra leg room. I believe it was close to $100K when new. I will never get rid of it, plus try to find a 2003 Super V8 for sale here in the states. Not a common car. I hope to see more posts of your XJR. I think all X308 owners can relate to it and your comments.

I’ve owned one since new, 22 years and about 70k miles now. It is in mint condition, just as when it left the dealership. They are delicate, expensive to buy and expensive to maintain, but with some preventive care, very reliable and a pleasure to use. With the Cats suspension and the European spec settings, the 308 XJR is a Ferrari in disguise. The reason that these cars are so cheap second hand just reflects the kind of money you have to spend to keep them in tip top condition, but the same happens with most european exotics. If just takes what it takes.

These X308 Jags are really something. Everything you say is true and I've gone through it once before and currently going through it again. Owned a 2003 XJR R1 a few years back, bought it dirt cheap and ended up putting at least what I paid into it (and that was with doing the work myself...). Got sick of working on it so sold it. Regretted it and ended up buying a very nice, lower mileage 98 XJR just a few weeks ago. Already have a good amount of money in parts into her, but hopefully this ones a keeper. These cars are drop dead gorgeous and they definitely have a soul, couldn't get the one I sold out of my head to had to come back for more punishment. Your 2003 will have updated metal tensioners and guides so no need to worry there. The engine is solid and as long as it has clean oil and does not overheat it will last a lot longer than nearly every single other component around it (as you are starting to figure out). Good luck with the car, hope you hang on to it for a bit.

Yup I need to replace all of the front end bushings and everyone is afraid of it. I replaced all the shocks and rear bushings my self! But my car is in immaculate conditions.

My xj8 Vanden plas is my favorite car. Not the quickest. But the comfort and look, especially with the long wheel base and limo tables in the back. Make it a beautiful looking car. Only problems i have had are timing chains. That's it.

I had a 03’ stype with the 3.0v6 6spd auto and owned it around 3 years. During my ownership I spent over $10k onto maintenance and it was not the end yet. Definitely hard to find a shop where they know how to fix things on a jaguar and even have any kind of willingness to take in the car for repair. If you don’t know anything about cars and somehow you become a jaguar owner don’t worry you’ll be an incredible expert within a sort period of time like every other people in this club. I sold it because I moved back to Europe. I miss my Jaaaag even if i hated the service bills. Jaguars are such a beautiful and unique cars they gives you so much. Once you drive one you’ll get mesmerized and just want to sit back and keep driving it. Not to mention the people’s reactions everywhere. I got countless positive compliments, saw many smiling and waving small kids. I promised to myself i will get another one in this life.

Thanks for the heart on my message. :)
I’d like to add on the dark ‘British Racing Green’ it really adds nostalgia. Maybe not on shiny black or white so much. Your XJR is still a beautiful automobile!
In theory these will go up in price enormously in 10-20 years from now. Maybe 25 years down the road. Do you have any thoughts about what these will be worth in 25 years?? Yes there is some cost involved until then. But maybe that will turn out to be a very lucrative investment. I’m not sure at this point in the game.
      Any thoughts??
Wonderful video by the way !!!!
I like how you are just very up front about your car.

This is one of my favorite cars ever built. I’ve driven several, never owned one, came close though. Not sure if you’ve driven a W210 E55, but I’m curious what your thoughts are on both of them. I love the e55s but there something special about the xjr. Both are on my short term buy list. Again, great video!

Only big problem I had was the battery went dead and I couldn't open the trunk with the key and I had to drill a hole through the back seat arm rest area with a pole with a hook to pull the red emergency cord

    X308 SC 00
    In 3 Years ownership:
    2 ABS Sensors
    Radiator
    Sparks all replaced
    1 Ignition Coil
Front wheel stabilizer (Jaguar Garage send 3x the wrong type 🤣)
    Ball bearings front
    Door lock
    Battery
    Transmission maintenance
Washing fluid connector on the bonnet
    Water cooling tubes
    New Brake lines
    2 spots welded underneath
    small gap in exhaust welded
    belt replaced
This week antenna started dying (makes noise, won't pull back fully)
I use FM Radio transmitter for Audio, so don't actually need an antenna.
    In near future
    new brake pads
    All worth it!
That Car is a dream come true, in many ways!
Make sure, before U buy one, U already found a competent mechanic for decent value, because U need one.
Specially since these cars are older, and the Jaguar Dealer garages lack proper experience, and are less enthusiast, while asking huge prices.
Most smart mechanics soon find out, they are underpaid for the money they earn, so they start their own business.

I had a brand new XJR in 2001 and traded it with 5K miles in 2003 for a International show car and never had an issue but I did trade it for a CL600 in 2005. I'm just about to purchase a 12K mile XJR for about 28K and its literally brand spanking new. You paid nothing for a 78K car and you might have to spend a few thousand but in this day and time, where can you drive a nice powerful luxury car for less that 15K?

Lesson learned here, never buy a neglected Sh=T box European car. Find the best sorted out loved car by a enthusiast with years of repair records. If the car looks like crap on the outside, what do you think the rest of the car looks on the inside?
