  • mynjgarden.com I bring my houseplants out in the yard to spend time in the sun during the summer months, but tonight the temperature is going to drop down to 40 degrees. My succulents and tropical potted plants need to come back inside for the fall and winter season but I don't want to bring bugs who've moved into their pots back inside with them. Let's give them a dunk and kill those bugs! Soapy water and some neem oil insecticide spray should do the trick!

I am so curious to see if this worked. We do take out lots of plants every year. We also bring in too many critters every fall. Some don't "hatch" until way later. Then we hear them making chewing sounds until beetles appeared. Does the soap hurt the plant? And will it kill the beetle larva?

It should kill the larva without hurting the plants. So far so good. Hopefully we won't find critters around Christmas!!

I tried this method just a few days ago. And when I brought the plants in I saw a little translucent centipedes coming out of the dirt. So unfortunately, I took everyone of my plants and re-potted them and then sprayed them with the homemade neem oil. So I will be curious to see how it works for you?!?

I’m curious as to how it worked out for her too! I live in Southeast Texas and need to bring some outdoor plants in. I wondering whether I should repot after doing this method…🤔 I really want to make sure I’m not bringing critters into my home😅

Several of my plants floated out of the pot, I had let them dry out in anticipation of using this method. Would them being dry be the reason they did this?

I don't know. I've never had one escape the pot. I'm doing it again this year.

How about just spraying them with need oil.

I think that would be fine for the above ground parts, but I was concerned about bugs hanging out in the soil. I had a lot of plants out there.
