Glad to see so many appreciate Ray's music. His son and I were best friends throughout high school (still are) and I got to know Ray Sr. very well. He was a great man, well beyond being the consummate jazz professional. He was also the funniest man I ever knew, a guy who could fix you with a stare that made you feel 2 ft. tall and then break into a laugh that made you feel just great. And man, did he love golf! I really miss the man.
I saw part of this concert in a hotel room in Cologne, Germany on Sep. 2006 at about 4am after a night of drinking. I'm not the biggest fan of jazz music but I am a huge fan of good music. I made it a point to remember the name of the piece and try to find it. This is a testament to the genius and skill of Mr. Ray Brown. To play with such force and skill and nuance and at 75! Not to mention that it made such an impression on me after a night of German beer.
That's just beautiful. Eyes firmly shut and fingers finding perfect intonation. That's someone who makes the instrument an extension of themselves, as oppossed to standing there just playing it....WOW.
One of the all time greats.Peace be with you Ray.I copied my first solo decades ago and it was Ray Brown doing Frankie and Johnny.Always doing something great, that was Ray Brown.
First heard Ray Brown play on Wes Montgomery's "Down Here on the Ground" album - very fluid legato bass lines, great intonation, and tone. But this live solo cut is masterful! You could hear a pin drop in the room while he's playing. Rest in Peace, bassman.
I am smiling here like a 7 year looking at a huge 5 level cake and grand has her face covered in Vanilla cream. It doesn't get better than this. It TEARS my heart that the youth of 2021 believe that what plays public IS music BUT I am glad that one of the most influential movies AND soundtracks in history finds a home here
un inspiration as always, the guy i get lessons from meet him a few times and play with him, really saddens me that he died before i could get the chance to meet him. Groove on ray wherever you are
And getting to 2021 America./. why isn't THIS the PRIDE of ALL minorities . I am hispanic and one of the most amazing sources of pride for ME is to listen to a Cuban Mambo, Bolero, BUT I feel as proud when i hear Mexican, Argentinian, Brazilian, Jamaican music. YES not many humans will have Elon Musk's blessings BUT I BET you.. he would dig this
As a musician I can say..AWESOME! Moreover, his playing & recordings will reveal if your subwoofer & speakers are truly musical or not. I've heard big name subs fail in reproducing such recordings. If your sub or your speakers play his records with accuracy? You've got good equipment. Regardless of price or name (which is no guarantee).
Like enormous. Great interlinked cogs and wheels turning in concert. 2 power a giant automaton. Expelling exhaust. As it plods along. Ray is the coolest
love when the drummer comes in....ray has a wide range of styles which is why i love listening to his music! does anyone know what china the drummer is using??
If you want some Ray Brown CD's, get the music of Andre Previn, Ray Brown and Shelley Manne. Then, you will hear some of the finest jazz extant. Previn is too good to believe.
@teracite Flea is great at what he does. He has his own style and shreds. You can't discount that. Jazz is effin' hard to play, that's for sure. You have to know your scales like the back of your hand. No doubt about that but, you can't discount what a lot of these rock bassists are able to do. Technically challenging in its own right, esp. guys like Geddy Lee. It'd be like saying Fritz Kreisler sucks at violin because he can't do anything but, what the music dictates him to do.
haha i wont lie i read the title as a misspelling of black orifice...but thats just cause you got my mind messed up! haha good song, great solo, ignore my comments

Ray Brown is the OG!!! No one grooves like him. So bluesy, melodic, and full of pocket. So dope.
That's just beautiful. Eyes firmly shut and fingers finding perfect intonation. That's someone who makes the instrument an extension of themselves, as oppossed to standing there just playing it....WOW.
I've never heard of Ray Brown. I just stumbled by and........................holy crap. What a profound experience. Thanks Ray.
ray is my all time favorite bass player! i could listen to him solo or just walkin' with the band for hours
It's good to see my old teacher doing a kick ass performance like this! The MASTER! :)
his playing is filling. i love the feeling of being full on music
You can tell this is played beautifully from the heart. The best kind of music, to be sure. Love it.
...too much style and groove to be contained in one man. his cup overflows and i happily partake in the mystery that is Music...
I heard this a thousand times since the film came out in 1958 ... This is outstanding.
Ray is my favorite all time bassist and this solo was fire ...but I gotta give this drummer props, too, for the very nice accompaniment

yeah I was surprised he had a concert in Indianapolis you want to play a round of golf and died in his sleep after taking a nap after golf
He was 75 when he did this gig wow . He was in the pocket so tightly that it chilled me . He never lost his groove at all . Im in total amazment .

I hate it when folks act like playing the bass guitar is akin to playing the acoustic double bass. Ray Brown and his descendants are my idols!!
