With a basic price hinting around the mid-$50,000 range, the 2025 Land Cruiser is available in three trim levels: 1958, Land Cruiser, and First Edition.
An all-new turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque is standard on all Land Cruisers.
A detachable front anti-roll bar, 33-inch tires, and locking center and rear differentials are standard features on all TLCs.
Today, Toyota officially unveiled the new 2025 Land Cruiser, a resurrection that was expected given the legendary status of this brand all over the globe. Now, off-road aficionados can finally get a brand new Land Cruiser and embark on wilderness adventures without having to wait years for the price of a used one with a lot of miles to drop.To no one's surprise, Toyota will not abandon this legendary automobile. On the contrary, the carmaker took a break from the Land Cruiser's trend of becoming a bloated, pricey mall cruiser. While remaining true to its roots, this coveted off-road SUV underwent a concerted attempt by Toyota to bring its price back down to a more accessible level.Similar to the TRD Pro and other top-tier Tacoma models, the 2025 Land Cruiser will be equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid iForce Max powerplant. Although the 326 hp produced by this powertrain is slightly lower than the 381 hp produced by the previous 5.7-liter V-8, the 465 lb-ft of combined torque far outweighs the 401 lb-ft of the previous model in off-road situations, particularly considering that the iForce achieves its peak torque at 1700 rpm rather than 3600 rpm. Although it comes standard with an integrated tow hitch, the tow limit of this smaller and less powerful Land Cruiser is 6000 pounds, down from 8100 pounds in the previous generation. Nevertheless, this is still quite acceptable.
Although Toyota has not yet announced their fuel efficiency predictions for the year, we anticipate significant improvements compared to the 2021 model's pitiful 14 mpg combined (13 city/17 highway). With 19 mpg combined (17 city/22 highway), the bigger LX600 should be easily outshone by the redesigned hybrid Cruiser.
The Land Cruiser can only accommodate five people due in large part to the usage of this engine. Sitting on top of the axle where a third row would normally go, the hybrid system's 1.87 kWh nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery generates a load floor that is slightly higher than what we prefer. We like how the hybrid system allows a regular 2400-watt inverter and power distribution system to be installed, yet the cargo room is still fairly large.
