  • Event Staged: Wednesday 8th August 1979
    Venue: Universität von Friedrich Wilheims, Bonn, West Germany
    Theme: The Open Air Festival
    Teams: Mouscron (B) v. Trélex (CH) v. Bonn (D) v. Mandelieu-La-Napoule (F) v.
    Douglas (GB) v. Merano Meran (I) v. Funchal (Madeira) (P) v. Karlovac (YU)
    Games: Collecting Glasses, Swinging Chandeliers, Chefs and Vegetables, The Dancing Couples, Clowns, Clocks and Wardrobes, The Cold Buffet and Musical Chairs;
    Fil Rouge: The Band.
    Both the Italian team, Merano, and the Yugoslavian team of Karlovac were leading this heat before the final game, and the West German team, Bonn was in 3rd place. However, on the game itself, 'Musical Chairs', the Italians were eliminated first, quickly followed by the Yugoslavians. After this, the West German team had to last out for one more elimination round and outright victory was theirs. As it happened, the team lasted until the end and had to do battle with the British team from Douglas, Isle of Man in the final round - which was won by the Brits. This incidentally was the team's third win on the night, but alas none of which was on the Joker.

    Classic TV. I see posts saying bring it back but it wouldn't be the same without the commentary, who would present it? Stuart Hall is as good as it gets. His football stuff was brilliant too. I'm 48 so used to watch when I was a kid, me and my mum in stitches when Stuart Hall lost it and started laughing...

    Stuart Hall was very much liked during this time. He was uncovered as an arrogant abuser who never had the grace to apologise for his crimes. It's so sad not only for the people he abused but the memories he left are now tainted.

    Spot the spelling mistake on the English title - Its’s A Knock Out!
    All other countries call it, in their own language, Games Without Frontiers (or Borders, in some cases) - only the UK called it It’s A Knockout!

    Hahaha... whats up with the narrator? "At first we show you the nice city of Bonn..." then silence... Forgot his text? Bonn is f.e. the home of Beethoven and, much more important, at this time our capital! Funny!
    By the Way, Bandleader Alb Hardy died in the age of 81 this year.
