Hugely happy to have found your channel 6 months ago. Since then, I've gone from (buying sealed I have to look at and stop the urge to rip) to buying booster box cases and PC ETB casess, putting them in my closet, and just looking at normal colored cardboard. Psychologically, I don't EVER want to open that sealed box!
Really appreciating the knowledge you’re dropping throughout the week, from the video posts to the long format you had with PokeMarketUSA the other day, and with the PokePlumber earlier on Monday. Starting to really understand and focus on making smarter plays here, like I dunno…PC Surging Spark ETB’s, somehow still available. Thanks Alex!
Excellent video. Ive done well for the past couple years staying in my lane but the urge to breakout due to fomo hits sometimes. Its ok to stay in your lane and stick what you understand/works. Dont need to be a part of every comeup.
I am roughly 65% sealed, 25% slabs and 10% singles. The simplicity behind sealed is the best. Buy the right products, enter at the right value, and know your time horizon.
Same. I'm around 85% sealed, 10% singles, and 5% slabs. I only care about high triple digit slabs that I graded myself. I have all the tools the graders use (according to the internet) to grade my own cards before sending it. I have not gotten a 9 since I started doing that. With that said, obviously if you're good at grading your cards yourself, you will realize you have very few worth it. Sealed product will never die. Just let it ride boys.
@@Infamous159 I like buying slabs also. Lots of great slabs out there for good value. Can buy a PSA 10 on the market and eliminate a lot of the risks that go into grading.
One of the best Pokémon and favourite channels on RUclips. You're a legend mate. Working towards sealed investing. Been loving the hobby again! Exciting times
Hey Alex, I’ve been in the Pokemon scene for a few years now. Have built up a pretty diverse portfolio that I’m holding long term. With that said, I don’t have a lot of experience in the selling process and what that all entails. I’ve only bought and never sold and so I’m not very experienced on how that whole process goes and what should be considered when it’s time to let go of certain items. For instance, what type of shipping should I use for a product, what sort of protective materials within the box should I consider to mitigate damage while it’s being shipped, and really any other variables or things I should be thinking about when I am ready to offload product would be really helpful insight to have. I primarily invest in booster boxes so any guidance catered to that commodity would really be great to see in a video. Love all that you do! Thanks.
Hey Alex, dig your content, thanks for all the good advice! I’m not really an investor, more of a collector, but I like to buy some stuff to hold, and only stuff I’m ok with getting stuck with. For instance, I recently bought a JP booster box to hold but it got a little smooshed in transit cuz they sent it in a bubble mailer. The cards inside are probably fine but I wouldn’t be comfortable reselling it, so I’ll just open it and have some fun, no biggie.
this is timely, i am reflecting on all my purchases from the past 3-4 years and I came the conclusion that I should focus more on the set and booster box that I like and not all set (and product) to maximize my enjoyment and gain into the hobby
You're like the Louis Rossman of Pokémon. Just a guy talking about the market behind a semi outdated camera....it's very relatable...how did I get here?😂
@nostalgianomics - would you be willing to make a video on how to handle taxes as a buyer/reseller? Im just sbout to get started doing some low volume flips as an LLC. One of my big questions is how to handle the tracking of cost basis on cards when you sell. Do you just track general expenses and subtract from sales to calculate profit? Or do you need to track the cost basis of each individual item?
I would but I legally cannot. I have to watch what i say becuase obviously I have no license to give that kind of advice... I will say to look into cost basis accounting or ask your accountant about it. That is by far the easiest way to use for this business. It's literally revenue minus expenses so you don't have to track each individual card.
I think my best long term option that I would like is to slowly collect sealed products and build my collection and some time down the road a couple years get into the market. Obviously while paying attention to the market and content on new moves to make.
i do about 50/50 with sealed and singles honestly been doing well with singles just trying to buy the art at good values. lots of sets are under looked rn because of the hype around 151. im sure people will be kicking themselves over plenty of cards in 3-5 years times.
I can tell you one thing. When I start regularly watching a youtuber, they blow up pretty soon after. When I start gaining interest in something, it blows up. Why, because the algorithm said so, and it's telling you all the same. Be careful about what you watch and participate in. Chances are, if you're seeing it for the first time, you're late. It's already been happening. With that said, you're about to start really blowing up my man. Keep up these videos. You're a source of light in the darkness.
@@dylanlewis8450 he probably does have them and only switches them out when the entire generation is out, but SWSH is still relevant in the market, SV is still new.
Idk if you respond to comments really here but one question I have really had about trying to take profits. I have some cases of cards but is it worth it to break down cases to sell some of the boxes for profits or is case value better?
So the cases can have more value or a "case premium" in the long term but it's usually nothing major. If you only wanted to sell some of yhe boxes and keep some its totally fine to open them. Not a deal breaker.
Is there anything that would make the SS ETB stand out vs all the other sets? So far it sounds short printed so the promo might be extra demanded??? But then again it’s Magneton…..but then again, it’s the giratina/karp artist…just seems different
I needed this video 5 months ago when I lost myself in the hobby, making it obsessive and spending to much… Sold almost everything and started from scratch again, only focussing on S&V boosterboxes and all the Ralts, Kirlia and Gardevoir english cards. Now it’s more laid back and fun to collect and invest into Pokémon 🔥
Hey Nomics which 3rd party seller do you recommend I go with to sell some of my booster boxes that are $500-$1000 in value? I don’t want to sell them myself on eBay/tcgplayer
Thank you. You’re not just about the numbers and I really appreciate that because this part of the hobby isn’t just all numbers like everyone thinks. It’s about good decision making and not getting to caught up in our feelings like you’ve said. Great words of wisdom 🙏🏼
