You know what bugs me about this fight? It's not the choreography, its not the lack of music. It's Rey's constant grunting, Seriously, after every single movement, she either screams or grunts. Kylo is completely silent so why should Rey be making any noise? It never made sense to me. I guess it's to show that Rey is going further and further into the darkside but still, grunting is a strange way to show that.
I think they just used the grunting to show that she was struggling and being aggressive, but you're right. It just comes across as juvenile and inexperienced fighting. There definitely would've been better ways to show her descent to the dark side if that's what they were going for.
@@nathanculli I agree, it could have worked but the way it was executed didn’t do the idea justice. It also doesn’t help that we hear every single grunt due to the lack of music. I also wish there was a breaking point in the fight were we had some dialogue between Rey and Kylo. But hey, that’s an editors job to fix that. I’ve been working on this duel for a while in my re-edit of the film. Surprisingly, this is the hardest part. After the duel, the film just goes into a downward spiral. But yeah, it almost feels like JJ went up to Daisy and said “Alright, not matter what, I’m going to need you to grunt.”
@@nathanculli Awesome! I’m still working on it so it’ll take a little time, especially with new VFX. But I’m going to start releasing some breakdowns of my edits soon.
I just noticed how ben goes for her sword even when she isn't guarding her face. it would be an easy win. and I absolutely hate how they keep doing the reverse grip, it's not very practical objectively
He’s doing it on purpose because he wants to prove to her how pointless it is to fight him. That’s why several times towards the end he just stood there and waited for her to attack, he wanted her to lose so completely that she would know she can’t beat him in a fight. He didn’t just want to kill her outright otherwise the fight would have only lasted a few seconds.
I’ve seen a few re-scores w/ Battle of the Heroes on YT already, so you can go check those out. They’ll likely be better or equal to what I could come up with. I’ve got my own projects that I want to complete, and then I’ll consider. The reason I probably won’t is because I don’t want to re-score the same scene twice.
So at 2:12 Reys saber connects with the metal part that the cross guard blades come out of but doesn’t cut it. This is why Kyle Rens saber is a flawed design. It would not protect against a saber like that. To have an actual useful cross guard the cross guards would have to come directly out of the saber itself
@@lordnautilus6519 I’d have to give them another watch, but from what I remember I thought most of them were good. Especially the Battle of the Heroes in III. I do remember not liking the Dooku fight in Episode II all that much though.
@@lordnautilus6519 I understand what you're saying but watching cry baby kylo ren and Rey fight is just bad. Neither one of them knows who they're which also makes the fight scenes weak. At least Anikan knew he was darth vader and wanted you dead unlike Kylo who doesnt know if he wants to be on the dark side or the light. Like what? Lol
@@Paintball1212 Well that makes Kylo Rens character amazing in my opinion. I really dislike Rey and the sequel movies are just meh. But Ben Solo is a well designed character in my opinion. I don't think this is what makes the sequel lightsaber battles "bad". I don't even think they are bad at all. They actually were some of my personal highlights in the movies. (except the throne room coreography with the guards, that was just awful).

I kinda like it because it shows her rage and how animalistic her fighting is but I can understand not liking it.
Music actually fits perfectly :O

What I really want in this fight is some old lightsaber sounds two music that people can choose such as Battle of heroes and prime vs bee
Seeing as you liked my comment can you do me a favour could you try and do it?

There’s metals in star wars that are resistant to lightsaber cuts

How the fight would of have gone if Kylo if he was actually being serious 1:19 🐧
Or :11 or :31.😂

Such a great fight scene🔥
Nice video cuz
if this was in the film tros would be top 5
I disagree, but it would’ve been awesome to have this duel with Duel of the Fates or Battle of the Heroes
It’s already top tier for me.
@@ReySkywalker2 one of the worst for me

no way, it’s already way too terrible
Prequels were so much better when it came to lightsaber fights
Yeah the sequels really struggled with their fight scenes. TROS and TLJ especially.
I personally think the prequels had problems with too fast and acrobatic lightsaber battles but that's just my opinion.
