I feel like the Shays only purpose is to go back and forth from the logging camp to The sawmill I mean it's the shortest distance of any industry and to be honest that's actually what it was designed for it was designed to go get the logs take me to The sawmill and go back it could push and pull at the same speed which makes it a really good engine to use although yes it's slow for me overall like if I had to rank it from like a 1210 of like overall at have to give it like a solid seven-and-a-half because yes your speed is slow but you're also getting a decent amount of power at a really low rank and you know the shape you may have to go very slow with it but you got to think about it you get like that I don't know a 6% incline you put like three or four cars on the back which is something that you know most players that are starting to go to like the smelter or whatever or going to haul this engine is perfect for that job it can do it slowly but it's perfect for that job of being able to climb the hill and that's actually what it was designed for being able to go and use a switch back and you know I can't wait until they finally decide to add the newer versions of the sheh into the game because I feel like we're going to get more speed out of them and there's going to be a lot more to them than what the original Shay is you know
I wonder if the handcar will ever have a purpose; maybe give it a coupler and let it be able to pull/push a single small wagon, to act as a rescue vehicle for a stranded engine?
There's one in Lima, Ohio if you're ever in the region (at least I think it's a Class A). It's near the medical center, opposite town there is also an NKP steam locomotive if you're that kind of person. I wouldn't put bets on seeing the actual locomotive works, as the refinery demolished them YEARS ago.
@@BattleshipOrion Class-A Shays have 2 cylinders, did some research on the Shay Database and it seems most Class A shays aren't in the USA, most are in Taiwan and some more are in Australia.

hard to know if it ever will be. Maybe after it gets the bugs worked out that could happen. Would be cool to see 😀

I used it as a single pusher before the big changes but now I'm not sure
The handcar used to have no speed cap, so it would just accelerate until it derailed

It still does, actually. The fastest I got it was 43 before it shook itself off the track.
I think the porters and the 48 should have paint choices.

The handcart isn't heavy enough to trigger the auto switch mechanism.

for betsy, if i recall correctly betsy used to be the single strongest engine in the game by far, far back before the spline update i think

Class A Shays are my favorite I wish more of them were preserved, or even working.
