My 7 year old loves the Hu, and we got to attend a concert of theirs for his 7th birthday. He was in awe. They sound exactly the same live as they do on their recorded work. They are incredible.
That instrument is called a horse head fiddle or a morin khuur. Mongolians play it the way that we play a guitar in the west. Traditionally, it is strung with two strings - the larger of the two strings (the "male" string) has 130 hairs from a stallion's tail, while the "female" string has 105 hairs from a mare's tail. For the correct spirit, the strings should be made from your own horses' tails. (Now they are often made from nylon.) The height of skill is to make it sound like a horse neighing. A lot of the singing you are hearing is traditional throat singing.
Need more education like your comment. I personally find it disrespectful to compare indigenous music, a horsehead fiddle and throat singing from Mongolia a thousand years old to westernized heavy metal music.

Nice you found the Hu finally .. lol The Hu is a folk metal band from Mongolia. The band was founded in Ulaanbaatar in 2016 and uses overtone vocals and traditional instruments including the morin khuur. In 2018, the band released the music videos for the songs Yuve yuve yu and Wolf totem that went viral. Their debut album The reg was released in 2019, after which the band toured Europe and the United States If you want to hear a more western like metallic song listen to Sugaan Essena will put the link in here ruclips.net/video/oJZfEh3EciU/видео.html
I've kind of dubbed this folk-metal, since this is a blending of elements of metal and their region's type of music. They use traditional instruments, which others below have named. The throat singing is just the icing on the cake with what they do, I feel.
Traditonal mongolian war chant that Genghis did many many many years ago . there insturments are called the Moren Kur the horse head fiddle and the singing there doing is mongolian throat singing its over 1000 years old same as there instruments. watch with sub titles on
It is called Hunnu Rock and there are 8 members of the band beside their producer who does not perform with them. The song called This Is The Mongol is their hardest rock song closest to Western standards of rock but all of their song are great and they can't do a bad song.
Since we’re getting into more niche things, you should definitely check out Heilung, they call themselves amplified history and they play music that sounds like it’s from the Iron Age
It is interesting though how without subtitles or knowing the language, the underlying meaning is completely understood by all.. "Oh F*** These are people not to be F***ED with!!"
LYRICS - (Remember, Mongolians scared Chinese so much they're the reason The Great Wall exists) "If lions come, we'll fight until the end If tigers come, we'll fight and battle If elephants come, we'll fight in rage If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate We, If lions come, we'll fight until the end If tigers come, we'll fight and battle If elephants come, we'll fight in rage If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate If you come as snakes, We'll become Garuda birds and fly over you If you come as tigers, We'll face you as Lions with blue mane If you with come evil intentions, we'll give you a fight! In the beginning of the video, you see a horseman leading his army... that took place back in the days. Fast forward to the present day, the army is now riding on a much powerful beast which is the motorcycle. It's a transition from the old to the new horsemen.
Tuvan throat singing is technically an instrument; they can make two sounds at the same time. It’s very difficult to learn and takes years to be a pro.
Thank you very much for your reaction! Wild and charismatic guys:))) This mixture of tradition and heavy metal is surprising. We have a lot of proficient throat singers in Russia, but metal+tradition is something new. I don't think it's their best song, but it reflects the way Mongols conquered and terrified the whole world. Difficult to imagine, but Mongol warlord Subede was the only, THE ONLY man in history to successfully fight in Russia in winter. Respect! Even Russians stopped all wars for winter, but he could win. In 800 years Subede's remote descendants, the independent Tuva, were the first to give the USSR their best snipers, nothing to say about food, horses and winter clothing for our fight against Nazi Germany. The HU have a very famous producer with a very good education in music. He promotes nearly all best musicians in the country. It was his idea to make a heavy metal band. I read that the HU are official culture ambassadors of Mongloia to the whole world, and this title is given to them by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their 1st album 'The Gereg' is translated as 'diplomatic passport'.
If you get the chance to see The Hu live... do it. Saw them last year and it was fucking unbelievable. Check out their other songs. You won't be disappointed. Hu is the Mongolian word for Human.
Imagine you and your „Gang“ walking down the street, feeling like the Masters of your Hood - and than theese Guys rising up, yelling their „Hu...Hu...Hu“...
This is the coolest awesomest band on the planet and they keep getting better over time. If you ever have a chance to see them live take it. Check out all their songs and videos they are absolutely awesome.
Lol 1:20, of all the reactions I've seen to this song your is the first to have identified the person in this scene as a Mongolian soldier. Every other reaction video people are asking, "What's that" or "What's happening". That image though, of the Mongol warrior wearing his battle gear while riding on horseback with his spear, is almost exactly as those depicted in Hollywood. I don't understand how everyone else missed that. Anyway, I thought it was cool that you noticed that.
This is Experimental Folk Metal. Now you have been initiated into this genre, check out Heilung, especially Krigsgaldr. This is the song that on a world scale is the response to the Hu Band in terms of time. It is a song of a village going out to fight a battle they know they can not win but they must fight anyway. It's pre-Viking in lyrics.
Thank you for your great reaction. The Hu is great band, isn't it. I really hope that the hu band liked you. The Hu band sing to use to Mongolian throat sing. It is called " khoomei". Many male herders can throat sing. Additionally, I want to give some information about instruments. The horsehead fiddle, it is Mongolian traditional bowed stringed instrument. we called "Morin Khuur" which has two strings and strings made from horse tails. The another instrument is "Tobshuur" which is looks like guitar. It has four strings. If you need to more information about that instrument, you can find Google. Greeting from Mongolia. Good luck your great reaction.
Had a cool teacher back in the early 80s before internet who always bring natgeo magazines taught about Mongolian people how they live and throat singing even tough this was not part of the school curricula and many more country. Love Hu 💚
What's awesome about them is that they sound nearly the same (but somehow better) live. Also, my friends and I even tried doing throat singing and we failed so miserably...
They aren't fighting each other they are channeling the inner warrior, and the ancestors. Throat singing isn't normally cool imo but this is just on a level of awesome. They are college professors and married , blows my mind , love it!! ❤👍
Their sound rumbles right thru me and all I know is id rather be on their side then who ever is against them, it makes me want to fight and im a girl, crazy good.
The band can be seen (and heard) playing the morin khuur-a two-stringed horsehead fiddle played with a bow-and a tovshuur-another two-stringed instrument, but played with the fingers. They also blast out their lyrics in the style of traditional Mongolian throat singers, a technique that involves producing multiple guttural pitches simultaneously. ( mymodernmet.com/mongolian-heavy-metal-hu-band/ )
Their singing style is NO EFFECT, called karkyraa and khoomei (Mongolian throat singing - reminds"fry vocals" of a man with bass voice, like Till Lindemann from Rammstein. It's done more using the throat and vocals chords), That horse head instrument is called morin khuur ( horse head fiddle) . Next like a guitar instrument is called tovshuur ( mongolian traditional guitar ). The Hu said they are created new genre then they called that Hunnu rock.
They have taken mostly traditional instruments and stylized them for metal/rock. He is “throat” singing. This is one of their first two songs. I have not looked for American subtitles so I have no idea what they are saying. I have rarely been able to understand what metal groups are screaming about anyway. I like these guys. I interpret the video as either the passing on of the Mongolian spirit to this generation or this generation respecting their ancestors in a new way. They have a lot more now on their RUclips site then they did even a year ago. In other countries there are groups that use traditional instruments for rock/metal as well.
old Biker group locally called the Mongaos, they used to act as gang tough, but after seeing these Mongolian Bikers I have a feeling US Mongols meeting those guys would take up driving mini vans.
The WOLF TOTEM represents Chinggis Khan, named Temujin He was the eldest son of Yesükhei, a minor tribal chief of the Kiyad and a nöker (vassal) of Ong Khan of the Kerait tribe, possibly descended from a family of blacksmiths . Yesükhei's clan was called Borjigin (Боржигин), and his mother, Hoelun, was of the Olkhunut tribe of the Mongol confederation. They were nomads like almost all Central Asian Turkic and Mongol confederations. Temujin and grows up as the one who carries the blood of “blue wolf”. The Wolf Totem thus represents Chinggis Khan

If you get the chance to see The Hu live... do it. Saw them last year and it was fucking unbelievable. Check out their other songs. You won't be disappointed. Hu is the Mongolian word for Human.
The voice he uses in throat singing. It's very unique. When you think about the Mongolians coming after you like this...do you want to run? I do.
You now have to do their collaboration with Lizzy Hale. AMAZING
Imagine you and your „Gang“ walking down the street, feeling like the Masters of your Hood - and than theese Guys rising up, yelling their „Hu...Hu...Hu“...
Tovshuur its called that 3 stringed guitar looking instrument. Ancient Mongolian instrument we used use before battles. 🐎🐎🇲🇳
It's Amazing to see someone eyes opened to the World around them. Welcome to the Curious.
You really should see them do Yuve Yuve Yu. It's amazing.
Throat singing.....just found about these guy about a month before you posted......love em
I would says it's the visions of their ancestors coming through the battle in the song (ancestors on horses)
Would love to see him react to the papa roach version too
This is Experimental Folk Metal.
Ooh so cool you finally checked them out!! Looking at your reaction right now😅🤘🏽
Damnnnnnn those mongolians metal heads are badasses!!!!
There’s a remake of this with Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach. Also a video with Lzzy Hale. You’ll have to check them out for sure.
turn your captions on for this song then redo a reaction that is a hardcore song
good reaction 🔥🔥
next reaction Mongolian rock instrumental band Twelve O Six band Water and fire 🔥
Mongolian throat-singing at its best. Love The Hu.
Never heard anything like these guys. Amazing.
Had a cool teacher back in the early 80s before internet who always bring natgeo magazines taught about Mongolian people how they live and throat singing even tough this was not part of the school curricula and many more country. Love Hu 💚
Check out The Hu/Lzzy Hale
This is the most bad ass song lol 😆
What's awesome about them is that they sound nearly the same (but somehow better) live.
Also, my friends and I even tried doing throat singing and we failed so miserably...
The bikes are the new Mongolian warrior. Galaa is throat singing. The instrument is the Morn Khur or horse head fiddle. Check out This is the Mongol.
The version and video with Jacoby from Papa Roach is badass too. Should check it out!!!
They aren't fighting each other they are channeling the inner warrior, and the ancestors. Throat singing isn't normally cool imo but this is just on a level of awesome. They are college professors and married , blows my mind , love it!! ❤👍
Mongolian throat singing is the ends of the earth bad ass
They are quite massive here in a america
Their sound rumbles right thru me and all I know is id rather be on their side then who ever is against them, it makes me want to fight and im a girl, crazy good.
4 people in the main band (the singers and traditional instruments), 4 more in the touring band (2 drummers, bass, and guitar).
The great chinngas Khan will blow your mind
I love people's reactions when he starts singing
You should watch this with subtitles. It only gets more badass.
it's like a fight song anthem marching into a battle and willing to fight for a cause type song. there is a version with the lead singer of Papa Roach
For a clip - the Great Chinngis Khaan. Sugaan Essena for a different experience - brilliant.
A.I., Penn State, and a Hu reaction video, love everything in this video, you the man, i subbed! #weare
Most notice the horsehead on the fiddle- but no one seems to have spotted the bow and arrow on the guitar yet lol.
That's Mongolian throat singing and their traditional instruments. They have done this for centuries.
this not growling, this is the troat singing.
Love all of your reactions, especially with The Hu and Baby Metal. Good luck
A new incarnation of the mongolian warrior. They are using traditional style stringed instruments and throat singing.
put on captions when listening to HU songs, it shows the translations
old Biker group locally called the Mongaos, they used to act as gang tough, but after seeing these Mongolian Bikers I have a feeling US Mongols meeting those guys would take up driving mini vans.
All their songs are amazing. My fave is The Great Ghengis Khan. The video for that us EPIC!!!!
This represent a modern mongolian horde.
What he’s doing is called Mongolian throat singing. It’s amazing. you need to also listen to yuve yuve yu. Even better. These guys are phenomenal.
Respect the warriors spirit. Brothers in the wind.
You should react also to Lost Society ft. Apocalyptica - Into Eternity. From Thu HU - Yuve Yuve Yu, Great Chinngis khan and Sugaan Essena
