Great video! I’m an attorney, though I’m one of many who ended up pursuing an alternate career after working for a 1.5yr at a big law firm in NYC. I think this is a great way to expose young women of color to law before they pursue the profession. I personally love your work clothes style... gives me ideas on what I can wear to work lol. Keep up the good work!
My questions are, would participating in a debate team in high school help you become a stronger lawyer in the future? How did you study for the Bar exam (estimate the hours you studied please)? Regarding dating, would you feel distant from your partner who is also a lawyer? Do you have time to do what you love (hobby: such as dancing)? What GPA do have to have to get into law school? What advice would you give me to become a strong lawyer in the future (I’m 16!)?
I currently work at a law firm..... you learn alot just being around it all.... Where I work is SSI and personal injury and Worker's comp. I'm a lawyer... I work in the recs department. So I understand the concept of talking and learning different things thru telling clients things.
Hi, Kameron! I am currently in my application process and live in ATL. I am willing to move if I get reasonable offers.. My questions are: How many law schools did you apply to? Once your received offers, was is difficult to make the decision? What can you tell us about seat deposits? Was it difficult to decide to move from Georgia to Alabama for law school? (I've been subscribed for a longgg time lol). What was your process in finding housing after your move? Repeat question: Is it difficult dating in law school? How did you manage? What year were you when you began dating your sweetheart? (I have been in a serious relationship for over 4 years and, though he is very supportive, I often think about how a possible move for me or a shift in my stress level or time as a result of law school, would impact our relationship). I understand that your experience is yours and mine will be my own but, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I love hearing about your work. I am set to graduate from college with my BS in Human Resource Management, so it sounds refreshing hearing you speak about employment law.
Would you recommend it to someone with a family? I've been married for 2 years and have a 10-month-old baby. I'm currently a junior in college. I understand that it won't be a 9-5 job. But for those of us that hold our family time very high, would you recommend a legal career? I've always wanted to go to law school, ever since I was in grade school. Law school has always seemed very deep, academic, prestigious, and the idea of studying "law" has always seemed beautiful to me. I would hate to argue a case in court (I have had a stutter since I was young. A natural stutter, not a nervous one) I would rather dig deep into books or documents. I've been an avid reader (I read 4-6 books a month every month) since I was young, and have always felt that being an attorney would highlight that strength.
I am a third year law student from the Netherlands and I am so glad I have found your account! You have such a nice personality! So down to earth and calming, you’re really inspirational!! 🥰
How did you pin point what area of law you wanted to study? Any advice for others who want to study law? Anything you wish you knew before practicing law?
How is it dating in law school? Do you recommended gap years before going to law school? Was it hard to find a job after graduating, considering the ranking of your school?
How did you decide what area of law you wanted to be in? How many hours do you work a week? Do you eventually want to be a judge or use your law degree to pursue other positions in law?
I am just loving your videos! It's reinvigorating this fire in me to return trying out law. My questions are how did you self-care (if you did) during law school and as an attorney now? How and when did you determine the field of law you practice? Thanks xoxo
Love your videos! Recently stumbled across your channel. I’m not in law school, but I am a PhD student in clinical psychology with an interest in forensic psychology. So it’s nice to hear your perspective, which helps introduce me to some of the things I’m unfamiliar with! Also, big congrats on your accomplishments 😊
Did you acquire a lot of debt from law school? What are some recommendations for LSAT study material? What law school did you attend? Did you work or intern while in law school?
Do you ever wish you had done something else? Or was law 100% the best path for you? Also what drew you to law? Is employment as difficult for young lawyers as some claim it is?
Great video and example for others. Totally agree some people don’t think about what they put out on the internet. News flash it CAN be found after you’ve forgotten about it!
My questions are what made you want to be a lawyer and how did you decide/choose your current job? Will you ever move to another state? Are there any other lawyers in your family? Thats all lol. Thank you. BTW I love your videos :)
can you please go more in detail about networking as a lawyer? i always thought of networking as something to do while in school (undergrad & law school), but i'd love to hear how networking works outside of school!! also, on a more personal note, what do you like to do outside of your job? hobbies? just curious!
What is the work-life balance like? How do you think being a lawyer would affect having a family in the future (if that’s something you want) as I know some lawyers can work a lot, I’ve heard of lawyers doing up to 100hrs a week
Hi Kameron! I love your videos! They have helped me so much this admission cycle! You may have covered this in another video, but in your opinion, how much does where you go to law school matter?
How do you feel about taking a gap year before going to law school? How important are letters of rec for law school? How hard was the applying process for law school? If you could go back to undergrad, what would you change that you feel would have better prepared you for law school? Also, congratulations👏🏿, I'm so happy for you and I pray your blessings continue to come. You are an inspiration to me, as a flawless👑 black young woman✊🏿, who also wants to be in the law field. I can't waitttt.
Jayla Chambliss Hi! I know you didn’t ask me, but I am a lawyer and I strongly recommend working for a year or so prior to law school! I did it and I’m so glad I did. It gives you perspective and it will make you a stronger candidate when you apply to law school. Good luck!
@@LadyK007 thank you so much for that advice! I've been struggling with my decision, but I feel that is the best way. Congrats to you👏🏿 and thanks again! ❤
This is such good advice for any career. I work in the federal government and sometimes I feel like these degrees are useless. However, I was promoted this week and I was like why...lol. I have a GREAT boss that sees the potential and that's important while we're learning how to put these degrees to work.
Do you spend most of your day working independently or in a group environment? Approx how many hours do you work per week (both in and out of the office)? What size law firm do you currently work at? How many hours per week did you spend in class/studying during law school? Is it plausible to work while in law school? I know you’ve discussed how to pay for law school in the past, but how would you recommend paying for other bills (car payment, housing, etc) while in law school?
Did you go into law school knowing what type of law you wanted to practice? If not how did you go about figuring that out? How did you spend your summers?
Love your videos! I’m a 1L heading into my second semester. How did you decide what type of law you wanted to practice? I am torn between so many different areas, which I’ve heard is normal. When and/or how did it all finally come together for you? Thx in advance 😊
Any tips on picking the right law school? How much weight did you put on location, clinical programs, financial aid, ranking, etc? How do you balance RUclips and work as an attorney?
Love your videos! I have a couple of questions. All of my lawyer friends tell me to only go to law school if you want to be a lawyer and that if you have any hesitation to NOT go to law school. This really freaks me out honestly cause it makes attorney work seem horrible? Also, because you are billing clients for the hours you work on their case do you feel a lot of stress because of this? I feel like there would be a lot of pressure to get a ton of work done even on days where I can’t focus or want to socialize. Like what do you do on those days? Haha sorry kind of a lot of questions but I’m genuinely curious.
Kayla Anderson what’s the exact question? should you go to law school only if you want to practice law??? with any job that you’re passionate about you would give your all even on days you don’t want to so if you’re going into something already looking at possible ways not to focus or slack, maybe consider something else you’re passionate about. every job or career has its highs and lows the key is to do something you love
I love all your videos; you're so inspiring! Now that you're in the profession, is it any different from what you expected? What made you go into your area of law? How did you choose your law school or what schools to look at? Is it possible to do a video comparing your area of law with some of your friends who may be in different areas of law?
If you don't mind me asking where is your firm? I went through something TERRIBLE (and personal) in 2018 and am trying to find an attorney. Thanks so much love!
I have always wanted to be a doctor but I don’t really know if I wanna be that or a lawyer because I’m interested in them both but how did you determine that’s what you really wanted to do ?
Love your videos! I get so much out of them and they calm my nerves for what I'm about to jump into. Question, law school is so expensive! The one I am interested in is 180k. Did your starting salary right out of school disappoint you or was it a good amount? (Don't have to tell me your salary tho girl lol) I see videos where people start at 60k and some start at 100k. Do you think the more prestigious law school you go to the higher your starting salary could be?
Now that you are an attorney and know other baby attorneys, how much has school ranking played in the job offers received? Meaning, did you have to be at the top of your class to receive a great paying SA or permanent offer of employment being at a regional lower ranked school? I know regional areas have law firms and it helps I guess if the state doesn’t have but a couple law schools, but did you have to compete much with students from higher ranked schools?(that just you specifically in Alabama, but maybe other states if you know someone). I’m trying to gauge how someone that already has worked for a few years and makes close to six figures but definitely wants to be an attorney would fair once law school ends. I know it’s a loaded questions because grades, networking ability, the school, and my number one component “GOD” makes a difference, but what are some odds you’ve heard or know of people making wayyyy less than $100,000 especially if you aren’t going to school on a full ride? Preferably, less than a big law salary if you’re not at a T-14-20ish school. Should you ever pay sticker for law school? If so, what would be viable factors? What do work hours look at versus billable work hours? What are key items to look for in potential firms, especially being a minority?(you seem to still wear diverse hair styles and loving your environment, but I know a lot of people of color think about this a lot). You know I always have a million questions lol. It’s cool if you can’t address them all.
A lot of questions you presented but to answer the one about law school rankings, you really have to think about a variety of different factors: type of law; location; work style; etc. I went to a top 10 law school after working for three years, and I’d say that if you are thinking of working at a big law firm in a major city, then law school rankings matter. Especially since law school is a major investment and the higher ranked schools rarely give full ride scholarships, you want to put yourself in the best position to earn a high enough salary to pay back those loans. Now, if you think you want to do law in the public sector, law school rankings may not be as big a deal (unless you are trying to get a clerkship or federal govt position). The government offers several loan forgiveness programs that will pay off all your law school debt if you work in the public sector for like 10 years.
MissV463 in another post you mentioned that you pursued an alternate career after 1.5 years at a law firm. May I ask why that was the case? And does your career now have anything to do with law school
Netté I didn’t enjoy the work and the stress of meeting the billable hr requirements. Also, quite frankly, my old firm wasn’t very diverse and I often felt secluded. Thus, I went into a career that allowed me to utilize my legal education without practicing traditional law and so far it’s been working out for me. I’m working in HR and focus on labor and employee relations.
MissV463 I work in HR and would like to possibly do employment and labor. I’ve done HR for a few years and I’m a HR Manager now. I’ve always wanted to be an attorney, but working in HR gave me the push I needed to pursue my jd degree. I sometimes feel powerless in my role simply because of laws I don’t know and employees are unpredictable. I also don’t like the amount of investigations and time I have to put in to provide to attorneys, for them to reply back with helpful advice or documents and that’s bill is thousands of dollars.(I’m long winded, and thorough with details, so I help them achieve their billable hours via phone and email 🤣). Long-term, I’d probably switch to in-house or start my own practice.(Not definitely, but I don’t know what the future holds). Because I dislike some attributes of HR, the money I make is market rate or a little above for my experience level. I’m just curious of the real world salaries as I’m waiting on acceptances from law school. I’m praying for some miracle reach schools lol. But it’s hard to find information or to get people/strangers/influencers to share their experiences or knowledge from others, that didn’t go to a top school. I’m non-traditional and a little older than a typical 25 year old. But I’m going to law school regardless, so I guess I’ll stop wondering lol.
I want to go to law school but my credits are mainly in Michigan and to finish my bachelors I need another year but schools in Atlanta won’t take all my credits.
Im also a baby lawyer. I am practicing personal injury law at the pre litigation level. I also still ask a ton of questions there are so many things that law school didny teach like how to manage a team . how do you manage your team?
I've been following you for a long time and I'm always so happy to see a new video from you. My question might not apply to your field, but since I'm applying this cycle I figured I would ask. How big of a role does school ranking play when searching for a job? Did you feel like certain firms were "safe" or "reaches" when you were applying for jobs because of the school you went to? Keep the great videos coming 😘
How long would you recommend studying for the lsat? I just started and plan to take March 2020 and April 2020 if I don’t like my score. I’m using khan academy and power score. Do you think 3 months is enough time to get a good score? Sorry if you’ve addressed this in another video, I just started watching your channel.
can I ask why you do so much research in your job? If I wanted to become a commercial lawyer would that require a lot of research too? Or do ALL area of Law have to do heaps of research??
Law is forever changing with new politicians, new trial verdicts, etc. And there’s no way to remember every element for every type of law. Also, I work in employment law which is very fact driven so we’re looking up cases with specific facts for each client. 😄
Are the costs of law school & school worth it? Because I hear that in the first few years of being a lawyer you get very low income but your also in a lot of debt ☹️
Thanks for shouting out to paralegals. I now in school for court reportering. I enjoy working with Associate Attorneys before they go.....rogue. LOL😂😭😂
Can you maybe do a video where you react to how to get away with murder ? Cause I am sure that sometimes its not legit lol Love your videos btw, thank you for posting them xx
V Jones No; however, most new attorneys do not know anything about the practice of law. Working for experienced attorneys at the start of your career will give you the training needed to be a great attorney.
I found you on RUclips and you indicate that you enjoy researching law. I realize it’s been about two years since you began your channel, and you may be too busy by now to reply to my post. However, if you do reply I have included legal citations to help. You may also prefer not to respond to politically related questions, but I think this is an interesting one. Would you please answer this question? Can those involved in the Jan 6th insurrection be prosecuted under local DC law? I have put it out for many other people with no answer or reply. I am a trained legal researcher and have looked into many possible scenarios that could result from the Jan 6th riot. The most fascinating possibility I have found is also one not discussed. The fact that nobody seems to ask or answer this question makes me wonder if I misunderstand the legal authority that I’m using or if I’ am just plain wrong. Please help me understand. It has been established that double jeopardy does not apply to cases prosecuted separately by state and federal jurisdictions. The Jan 6th insurrection occurred on federal property and in the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia (DC). Although DC is not a state it still has its own local statutes. So let me now explain the authority which I base my question. The rioters were threatening to kidnap some members of congress which is a felony, DC ST § 22-181. If someone is harmed or property damage exceeds $5,000 while rioting or inciting a riot it is a felony carrying up to 20 years, DC ST § 22-1322. There was also felony assault with items such as flagpoles and fire extinguishers considered deadly weapons under those circumstances, Peay v. U.S., 597 A.2d 1318 (D.C. 1999). See also, Scott v. U.S., 243 A.2d 54 (D.C. 1968). The murder of the DC police officer carries a life sentence without the possibility of release, DC ST § 22-2106. DC courts have opined that it is not necessary to name the person who committed the murder of the police officer or the rioter who died to charge the others, Price v. U.S., 813 A.2d 169 (D.C. 2002). Under D.C. law anyone acting together to commit a felony may be charged as principles or accessories, DC ST § 22-1805 and DC ST § 22-1806. It is a felony to intimidate or impede a public official while he/she is performing their duties, DC ST § 22-851. Most charged admit that they were there to “stop the steal” which was to intimidate or impede officials while performing their duties. As long as the defendants were acting with a common interest to commit a felony crime, and someone is murdered, all those involved are guilty of felony murder, Christian v. U.S., 394 A.2d 1 (D.C. 1978). Perhaps most significant for those not there who instigated the events, it is not required for them to have physically participated as long as they directed or advised others to do so, DC ST § 22-1805. Thanks.
Q. What are the obstacles you have overcame? Q. What advise would you give to me who has NO generation behind me with ANY education? (Besides middle school and some high school) (I dream of being a lawyer) Q. Was there any time in your journey you had second thoughts? I know these are really interpersonal question but they mean a lot to me.. I just found your page. Thanks!

GREAT question! Everything I've been worrying about as an undergrad
But I’m going to law school regardless, so I guess I’ll stop wondering lol.
how hard was passing the LSAT? and Bar Exam? would love a detailed video about both & how many times it took you to pass
I want to go to law school but my credits are mainly in Michigan and to finish my bachelors I need another year but schools in Atlanta won’t take all my credits.
Subscribed! New to your videos. Enjoying them so far.
Stephanie S ❤️❤️❤️

Which classes do you feel prepared you the most for practice?
How long would you recommend studying for the lsat? I just started and plan to take March 2020 and April 2020 if I don’t like my score. I’m using khan academy and power score. Do you think 3 months is enough time to get a good score? Sorry if you’ve addressed this in another video, I just started watching your channel.
Love your personality!!!
What’s the difference between legal and lawful?
Sorry if I missed it, but what area of law do you work in/what kind of lawyer are you?
can I ask why you do so much research in your job? If I wanted to become a commercial lawyer would that require a lot of research too? Or do ALL area of Law have to do heaps of research??
Law is forever changing with new politicians, new trial verdicts, etc. And there’s no way to remember every element for every type of law. Also, I work in employment law which is very fact driven so we’re looking up cases with specific facts for each client. 😄
Love your realness.
What kind of law did you want to pursue?
Are the costs of law school & school worth it? Because I hear that in the first few years of being a lawyer you get very low income but your also in a lot of debt ☹️

Do new attorneys always have to work for someone else first before they can go into business for themselves?
V Jones No; however, most new attorneys do not know anything about the practice of law. Working for experienced attorneys at the start of your career will give you the training needed to be a great attorney.
@@alh476115 oh! So it's like being a resident before you become a full fledge Dr.
V Jones similar concept with respect to receiving training instead of figuring out things on your own.
Thanks.
