- This will be the last of our upgrade videos for a little while, but don't go away, we still have plenty more upgrades to come. We're just ready to get back out and get to camping.
This will be the second camping season for us in our Coleman Lantern 17B. We stayed close to home last season and figured out what we liked and didn't like about the camper and that's why we ended up doing the upgrades that we did, so far. This year we plan to travel further, for longer, hoping to get some great family time in and see some this great country that we haven't been to before.

All other products should be in their respective videos. But don't hesitate to ask, I may have forgotten something.
I have a Coleman19 trailer and I would love to have a storage cabinet next to my bed. I’m glad it can be done . I wish I was a carpenter like you . Great job 👏
Thank You
Can it be moved with a four-cylinder Kia Sorento?
You would have to consult you manual or your dealership. I'm by no means an hour expert with smaller vehicles.
Thanks for your videos *BIG* Guy!
Learning what that darlin' weighs all loaded up will be a *Good* thing.
I'm considering a Coleman Lantern 17 series, but she's right on the cusp of being too much for my vehicle to tow.
I'll keep an eye out for your video regarding weight.
🙏🦉
If you search our channel I posted the weight one a while back. Hope it helps.
Great upgrades! I have a single axle travel trailer with a 3500 pound axle on it. The trailer is 2800 pounds dry. Very easy to overload these and bend the axle.
Just don’t travel with any of your tanks full, fill at camp, or next city water source closest to boondock, empty all at departure. These single axle camp trailers have an average 500lb tongue weight. Fill your fresh water tank and that’s another 180lbs added. My 4Runner has a tongue weight limit of 500lbs, so traveling with the tank empty is safest for my setup...
I worked at a tv repair place for a year. I now just use a 8 man tent. So many things break on these . Plus insurance, registration, storage, camp spot fees , payment
Where did you buy the swing in and out curtain rod? Great idea. Didn’t see a link on the video. Thanks much
I believe there is a link in the original video, or at least a section in the description of where we got it. We may have actually purchased it at Camping World.
Thank you for the inspiration. I just bought a 2022 a few days ago.
Hopefully you can feel comfortable customizing it to make it your own. It's a great little camper if you can work through any factory issues that pop up. Safe travels and God Bless.
She will be parked in 1 spot. My main living space. I've been an off grid OG since 1980. This is luxury compared to what I've been living in. My 1963 14ft Yellowstone. I did a lot of restorations on her over 15 years. This is a major step up and I'll have even better eventually. I'm glad to have my tiny home paid off before picking her up. I enjoyed these videos very much.
Great videos. We never use the shower, gonna try to turn it into a closet.
A few people on our coleman facebook page have done that. They turned out pretty nice
It came out great!
I need to completely replace my dinette and bunk beds. My daughter lived in the camper for a short while and ripped them all out to make more room. Do you know of any videos showing those replacements?
Loving your content on these trailers
Thank you
Just picked up my 17B and watched most of your videos. Appreciate you taking the time to show your upgrades and how you are doing them. Maybe a silly question but what did you use as a border for your backsplash? Looks clean and a nice way to finish it.
+Bubb Rubb thanks for watching. the backsplash came from the factory like that. I wish I could take credit but I can't. It looks like it's the paneling edging similar to the stuff on the edge of the dinette benches. Hope this helps. Safe travels and God bless.
2022 model?
The 2022 didn’t come with a stereo mounted in the dinette overhead cab, so I need to pop those panels out to put some wicker baskets in for storage. That single door in the middle is a real pain in the ass to get around in that cupboard
Yeah for sure. Ours is a 21 and the built-in radio is there but we did pop out the opposite end and did the same thing. Good Luck and safe travels.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams
Just popped that upper dinette cab closeout panel out last night then stained the bare 1”x1” pine wood cleats with water-based poly (no smell) so they didn’t stick out like a sore thumb looking in there. It’s all about the details right? Say if you’re not a part of the ‘Coleman Lantern LT 17B’ facebook group, join in! Tons of fun convo, mods, etc all from 2020-2022 17B owners. Would love to see ya there 👍🏼
I've been on there for about 2 years now but we don't really use this on much. We've upgraded but still have this camper if you search me up on there I've posted tons of my upgrades in the past just haven't been real active lately but thanks for the invite.
Great vids! Any chance you can selk the plans for the cabinet next to the queen size bed? Ty
Well I would but we no longer own the camper and I didn't actually draw up anything for it I just kinda built it to fit. Thanks for the compliment and sorry on the plans.
Howdy! Thanks for all of the insight and inspiration! What did you use to keep the upper cabinet doors open?
They are baggage door latches. You can pick them up on amazon or in any camping world. They run somewhere around $3-$4 for a pair of two. They work great.
I know it was a few years ago but do you remember what blade you used to cut the hole in the door for the window insert. Was it a fine tooth or large tooth etc.....? thx
It was definitely a fine tooth
Love ur Cap
Thanks. Printedkicks.com
Nice video.
What do you do for heat if boondocking?
Well we have a generator for ours. I'm not sure what anybody else does but there is a Facebook page called Coleman Lantern LT 17B Owners. If you aren't already a member it's definitely a good resource for things like this.
I really liked the upgrades you did....for a 14K trailer new it is worth it especialy for only two people! Is there a way to add additional batteries in the storage for more backup power?
+robert crooke the space on tongue where the other battery is should be big enough for two batteries. Several people in our Facebook group have added a second battery there. How this helps.
How did you upgrade the door window and kitchen window? Did you do it yourself or buy it from factory and have them install it?
I did it my self. There is a video on out page for both upgrades
You have great videos, I don't think I can do that woodwork but good stuff. Where did you get the extra step for ladder? TIA.
Thank you and we got it from Amazon. The link should be in the description, if it's not in this one check out the original video for that project it's definitely in there.
Hey there, your videos are great, thank you! I am curious about the air conditioning in this particular trailer. Did you find that it works well for the amount of space?
It works fairly well for the main area but the bunks and bathroom need some help. We typically use a small fan to help circulate the air.
Small Family Big Dreams Thanks, I appreciate it!
I just bought a 17b. Your upgrades are amazing! Any ideas for what to do with that top bunk? My daughter likes the bottom one for sleeping.
Our daughter does too, and I almost got rid of it but I'm glad we didn't because we actually brought a friend of hers with us on this trip
These are great videos!!! Can you help me with a sink faucet replacement? Do I cut open the panel of the cupboard toward the bedside?
Yes I believe there is only a few screws holding that panel in place.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams thank you so much for your response! Truly been watching the videos
@@dr.christophergroves2116 you're very welcome and we appreciate your views. I also found that you can pull out the fireplace if it's too far to reach through that small cabinet. It should only be a few screws and a wall plug to get it out.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams sounds like a little more challenging than just the panel. I’ll have to take a little look later. Have you done this modification?
Excellent call. It is a little distance using just the panel side. Might be able to make it. Sidenote question this may seem silly… But does the emergency window open to allow ventilation? Or is it simply for exiting in emergency situations? Willy would like some ventilation from that window.
WHERE DID YOU GET THE BEHIND THE SINK WINDOW THAT OPENS? IS THERE AN INSTALLATION VIDEO?
Amazon and yes we did a video for it
where can i get a list of all the supplies you had to buy aftermarket....I am about to buy this unit 2021 and I need to know what to get to make utiliies and cleanout easy as well as level blocks walmart...thanks for that list
+robert crooke if you go onto Facebook our group has a pretty comprehensive list available. It 'Coleman Lantern LT 17B Owners'. They are a great resource.
I googled a calculator: 27 gal =225.3 lbs X 2. 28 gal= 233.6lbs. Roughly. That's if they are all fully loaded.
Thanks for this. I was actually meaning to do this for the weights video but never got around to it.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams Not a problem. I've already put down a deposit at CW for this trailer and the information was helpful to me as well. Thanks for your posting of the vids!
I see you have the same jacks in the front that I just bought can you show me where you put them?
I always try and put them where the tongue and the main frame of the trailer meet.
Where did you get the window above sink
We got it off of Amazon. I believe there is a link to it in the description
What are the dimensions and depth of the kitchen window? and where did you order it from?
+DoylenMartha Beard if you go to the video where we installed it there is a link in the description. I'm not at home right now. We ordered it from Amazon.
+DoylenMartha Beard here is the original video link.

I've been looking at the 17b for a while. I'm single so I wouldn't need the bunk beds. Is there anything that would prevent me from removing the the bunk beds and turning that into a closet area or is there tanks or equipment underneath the bottom bunk?
No it's clear under the bunks. If you get on Facebook, there's a page called Coleman Lantern LT 17B Owners. There have been several people on there that have done that exact thing. Good luck and safe travels.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams thanks
Where can I find that curtain rod?
I believe we purchased it at camping world but I'm sure you can find it on Amazon
Do you guys use a generator?
We have on a rare occasion but not typically. We purchased the 3500 Predator from Harbor Freight and it does great.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams that was gonna be my next question lol. Do you think inverter is a must or will a regular generator be ok?
I bought a travel trailer that's very similar. Same size etc
@ T Anthony Thomas I believe the one we have is inverted. It's setup for campers already and it's very quiet. The last time we used it, it ran all night while we needed the heater. There was probably 1/8th of the fuel left after running for around 13 hrs.
@@SmallFamilyBigDreams nice
Those shelves in the cabinet seem like a downgrade not a upgrade. The taller space is needed.
They definitely helped with our space. We were constantly stacking and unstacking plates and whatnot. The people who bought it from us like them as well.
Load the camper. Then take it to cat scales.
Would truly love to know if you replaced your fridge and how you did it 💖🫱🏽🫲🏼 Thanks for your videos and time!
